    Whether-Weather

    Get PDF
The WhetherWeather project is a comprehensive weather and traffic forecasting system that provides real-time insights and predictions. It utilizes Python programming language and various data sources, including Inrix data for traffic information and weather data from Meteostat. The system employs machine learning techniques, specifically XGBoost, to train models on historical data. Once trained, the models can accurately forecast traffic conditions based on weather data. To visualize the results, a Flask API is available, allowing users to access the system\u27s functionalities through a web interface. For more information and to access the WhetherWeather website, visit WhetherWeather.org

Applying Cloud-Based Computing and Emerging Remote Sensing Technologies to Inform Land Management Decisions

    Get PDF
Who: Boise State University and Mountain Home Air Force Base What: Creating a species level classification map through the use of Google Earth Engine (GEE), a cloud-based computing platform, to map invasive species When: In-situ data collected in Summer 2018, a continuation of data collected in Summer 2016. Classification was created in Fall 2018. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) flights in August 2018. Where: Mountain Home Air Force Base (MHAFB) in southwest Idaho, ecosystem is in the Great Basin Range (GBR) Why: The introduction of exotic species like cheatgrass (Bromus tectorum) has drastically altered the fire cycle of the Northern Great Basin (NGB) from 50 – 100 year burn intervals to 10 year intervals (1). Factors such as soil, elevation, temperature, and precipitation can affect the resilience of a sagebrush steppe ecosystem to invasive species. Remote sensing techniques allow large scale analysis of invasive encroachment and assessment of conservation efforts and land management

    Hybrid Thermal Lance

    Get PDF
The Hybrid Thermal Lance (HTL) is a device used to burn through landmines to destroy them safely. Designed for the team’s client, The HALO Trust, the HTL has proven to work well in destroying explosives, which has been demonstrated by field trials conducted in a number of countries including but not limited to Afghanistan and the Republic of Georgia. The HTL works by igniting acrylic burn tubes, which act as a fuel source and also focus the flame on a specific location on an explosive device. The system is controlled via a user-friendly, rugged control box that can run the HTL automatically and allow the device to burn for different lengths of time upon user command. The team was asked by HALO to make the HTL as user-friendly as possible. In order to do this, the team has been researching ways to make the ignition system as reliable as possible so the device works every time. The team plans to move forward in testing and refining the ignition system and the control circuit in order to give the client a trouble-free device. Future plans include designing a fixture that can be fitted over the end of the HTL burn tube which can focus the heat of the flame for a more concentrated burn.https://mosaic.messiah.edu/engr2020/1022/thumbnail.jp

An Ejectable Data Recorder Subsystem for the Ascent Abort-2 Test Flight of the Orion Launch Abort System

    Get PDF
The Ejectable Data Record (EDR) subsystem was a unique development opportunity at NASA with challenges that necessitated innovation. EDR employed a skunkworks development approach in which we designed, built, and delivered 47 end items, not including ground support equipment. We used as many COTS components as possible, we looked for process efficiencies to meet our tight deadlines, and the EDR team was involved in the flight operations of the AA-2 test flight and responsible for the recovery operations of the ejected payloads. This paper will discuss the design and development of the EDR subsystem, as well as the results of the system performance during the AA-2 test flight

Usability Evaluation of a Robotic System for Cognitive Testing

    Get PDF
This abstract presents a preliminary evaluation of the usability of a novel system for cognitive testing, which is based on the multimodal interfaces of the social robot “Pepper” and the IBM cloud AI “Watson”. Thirty-six participants experienced the system without assistance and filled the System Usability Scale questionnaire. Results show that the usability of the system is highly reliable

Coordinated progression through two subtranscriptomes underlies the tachyzoite cycle of Toxoplasma gondii

BACKGROUND: Apicomplexan parasites replicate by varied and unusual processes where the typically eukaryotic expansion of cellular components and chromosome cycle are coordinated with the biosynthesis of parasite-specific structures essential for transmission. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: Here we describe the global cell cycle transcriptome of the tachyzoite stage of Toxoplasma gondii. In dividing tachyzoites, more than a third of the mRNAs exhibit significant cyclical profiles whose timing correlates with biosynthetic events that unfold during daughter parasite formation. These 2,833 mRNAs have a bimodal organization with peak expression occurring in one of two transcriptional waves that are bounded by the transition into S phase and cell cycle exit following cytokinesis. The G1-subtranscriptome is enriched for genes required for basal biosynthetic and metabolic functions, similar to most eukaryotes, while the S/M-subtranscriptome is characterized by the uniquely apicomplexan requirements of parasite maturation, development of specialized organelles, and egress of infectious daughter cells. Two dozen AP2 transcription factors form a series through the tachyzoite cycle with successive sharp peaks of protein expression in the same timeframes as their mRNA patterns, indicating that the mechanisms responsible for the timing of protein delivery might be mediated by AP2 domains with different promoter recognition specificities. CONCLUSION/SIGNIFICANCE: Underlying each of the major events in apicomplexan cell cycles, and many more subordinate actions, are dynamic changes in parasite gene expression. The mechanisms responsible for cyclical gene expression timing are likely crucial to the efficiency of parasite replication and may provide new avenues for interfering with parasite growth

The article studies the aspects of the phenomenon of multilingualism which are characteristic of Ukraine as a national state that remains at the stage of final forming complicated by the transformation of state political, social, economic and spiritual systems. The author underlines actuality of “the axiom of national statehood” that expects Ukrainian to be official language because it is native for the most of members of a titular nation in Ukraine
