    Properties of Catlin's reduced graphs and supereulerian graphs

    A graph GG is called collapsible if for every even subset R⊆V(G)R\subseteq V(G), there is a spanning connected subgraph HH of GG such that RR is the set of vertices of odd degree in HH. A graph is the reduction of GG if it is obtained from GG by contracting all the nontrivial collapsible subgraphs. A graph is reduced if it has no nontrivial collapsible subgraphs. In this paper, we first prove a few results on the properties of reduced graphs. As an application, for 3-edge-connected graphs GG of order nn with d(u)+d(v)≥2(n/p−1)d(u)+d(v)\ge 2(n/p-1) for any uv∈E(G)uv\in E(G) where p>0p>0 are given, we show how such graphs change if they have no spanning Eulerian subgraphs when pp is increased from p=1p=1 to 10 then to 1515

    Chemical composition of Dipsacus asper Wallich ex Candolle (Dipsacaceae) essential oil and its activity against mosquito larvae of Aedes aegypti and Culex pipiens pallens

    Purpose: To evaluate the larvicidal activity of the essential oil of Dipsacus asper Wallich ex Candolle (Dipsacaceae) roots against the larvae of Aedes aegypti L. and Culex pipiens pallens Coquillett.Methods: Essential oil was extracted from D. asper roots by hydrodistillation and analyzed for its composition by gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The oil was evaluated for larvicidal activity, using World Health Organization (WHO) procedures, against the fourth larvae of A. aegypti and C. pipiens pallens within 24 h, and activity was recorded for various concentrations of the oil ranging from 12.5 – 200.0 μg/mL.Results: A total of 34 components of the essential oil of D. asper were identified. The major compounds of the essential oil were caryophyllene oxide (13.29 %), caryophyllene (9.14 %), cubebene (7.87 %), β-gurjunene (6.43 %), carvone (5.38 %), 1,8-cineole (5.29 %), and calamenene (5.05 %). The oil exhibited larvicidal activity against A. aegypti and C. pipiens pallens at median lethal concentrations (LC50) of 56.29 μg/mL and 47.49 μg/mL, respectively.Conclusion: The essential oil of D. asper roots has potentials for use in the control of A. aegypti and C. pipiens pallens and may be useful in the search for new, safer and more effective natural larvicides.Keywords: Dipsacus asper, Aedes aegypti, Culex pipiens pallens, Essential oil, Larvicidal activity, Caryophyllene, Cubebene, β-Gurjunene, Carvon

    Carbon Nanostructures Production by AC Arc Discharge Plasma Process at Atmospheric Pressure

    Carbon nanostructures have received much attention for a wide range of applications. In this paper, we produced carbon nanostructures by decomposition of benzene using AC arc discharge plasma process at atmospheric pressure. Discharge was carried out at a voltage of 380 V, with a current of 6 A–20 A. The products were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Raman spectra. The results show that the products on the inner wall of the reactor and the sand core are nanoparticles with 20–60 nm diameter, and the products on the electrode ends are nanoparticles, agglomerate carbon particles, and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). The maximum yield content of carbon nanotubes occurs when the arc discharge current is 8 A. Finally, the reaction mechanism was discussed

    Short-Term Efficacy of Laparoscopic Treatment for Colorectal Cancer in Patients with Schistosomiasis Japonica

    Introduction. Schistosomiasis is associated with numerous complications such as thrombocytopenia, liver cirrhosis, portal hypertension, and colitis. To the best of our knowledge, the feasibility and outcomes of laparoscopic colorectal surgery in patients with schistosomiasis have not yet been studied. Methods. In this study, the data of 280 patients with colorectal carcinoma along with schistosomiasis japonica infection who underwent laparoscopic or open colorectal surgery were retrospectively analyzed. Preoperative data, operative data, pathological outcomes, postoperative complications, and recovery were compared between patients in the laparoscopic (LAC) and open (OC) groups. Results. There were no significant differences in the preoperative data between the groups. However, fewer postoperative complications, especially severe hypoproteinemia, early postoperative feeding, and shorter postoperative hospital stay, were observed in patients in the LAC group (P<0.001). The mean operative time was higher in the LAC group (180 min versus 158 min; P<0.001), while the mean blood loss was similar (95 mL versus 108 mL; P=0.196) between groups. The mean number of lymph nodes harvested was also similar in both groups (15 versus 16; P=0.133). Conclusion. Laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer is safe in patients with schistosomiasis japonica and has better short-term outcomes than open surgery
