•Spinal arteriovenous malformations (SAVM) are very rare.•Therapeutic options can be very challenging since none of them provided a definitive cure to this lesion in literature.•Spinal angiography is the gold standard for all-inclusive assessment of SAVMs.•We believe that incorporation intraoperative angiography during surgery in a hybrid theatre can help achieve a better cure

Smart Communication Satellite (SCS) Project Overview

    Get PDF
Smart Communication Satellite (SCS) is the first low earth orbit (LEO) mobile communication test satellite of China, whose core mission is to conduct technical exploration and verification for building satellite internet. Launched in September, 2014, SCS completed its whole on-orbit experiments in October, 2014. In order to resolve the contradiction between the coverage area and communication rate of LEO communication satellites, SCS adopts on- board smart antenna, whereby dynamically changing spot beams can be formed. Moreover, SCS has developed payload-centered satellite design technique as well as internet-oriented software satellite technique, and finally accomplished the design for application-oriented micro-satellite which is 100Kg-class weighted and applicable to communication and navigation services. The innovative techniques of SCS verify the new direction of development in the future satellite internet

Multiple metallic-shell nanocylinders for surface-enhanced spectroscopes

The optical properties of multiple dielectric-core-gold-shell nanocylinder pairs are investigated by two-dimensional finite difference time domain method. The core-shell cylinders are assumed to be of the same dimension and composition. For normal incidence, the diffraction spectra of multiple cylinder pairs contain the lightning-rod plasmon mode, and the electric field intensity is concentrated in the gap between the nanocylinder pairs in the infrared region. The resonance wavelength and local field enhancement of this plasmon mode can be tuned by varying the pair-distance between the pairs, the gap-distance between the pairs, and the optical constants of the dielectric-core and the surrounding medium. The results show that the multiple core-shell nanocylinder pair contains the plasmon mode same as that of the solid metallic cylinder pairs at the long wavelength part of the spectrum. The large electric field intensity in the infrared region at long wavelength makes multiple core-shell cylinders as ideal candidates for surface-enhanced spectroscopes

AIM:To investigate the effect of intravitreal injection of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)on choroidal thickness and posterior ciliary artery blood flow in patients with wet age-related macular degeneration(ARMD). METHODS:A total of 93 wet ARMD patients enrolled into the ophthalmology department in our hospital from September 2014 to December 2016 were selected into our study. The patients were treated with anti-VEGF vitreous injection for 3mo. The central retinal thickness(CRT), subfoveal choroidal thickness(SFCT), best corrected visual acuity(BCVA, LogMAR), choroidal neovascularization(CNV)and parameters of ciliary arterial blood flow \〖systolic peak flow velocity(PSV), end-diastolic blood flow velocity(EDV)and mean blood velocity(mV), resistance index(RI)/pulse index(PI)\〗 before treatment(T0), 1mo after treated(T1), 2mo after treated(T2), 3mo after treated(T3)were recorded and compared. All patients had been followed for 18mo, and side-effect were recorded. RESULTS: All wet ARMD patients had successfully completed intravitreal anti-VEGF injection. Compared with before treatment, BCVA, CRT, SFCT, and CNV had gradually decreased(F=72.738, 32.333, 7.305 and 957.450, PPF=2.619, 1.942, 0.820, P>0.05). Compared with before treatment, RI index had gradually decreased(F=25.451, PF=8.660, PT2≈T1>T0; RI: T3≈T2CONCLUSION: Intravitreal injection of anti-VEGF can effectively reduce choroidal thickness and increase ciliary posterior arterial perfusion, with a good long-term effect and less risk

Dietary DHA/EPA ratio affected tissue fatty acid profiles, antioxidant capacity, hematological characteristics and expression of lipid-related genes but not growth in juvenile black seabream (Acanthopagrus schlegelii)

An 8-week feeding trial was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary docosahexaenoic to eicosapentaenoic acid ratio (DHA/EPA) on growth performance, fatty acid profiles, anti- oxidant capacity, hematological characteristics and expression of some lipid metabolism related genes of juvenile black seabream (Acanthopagrus schlegelii) of initial weight 9.47 ± 0.03 g. Five isonitrogenous and isolipidic diets (45% crude protein and 14% crude lipid) were formulated to contain graded DHA/EPA ratios of 0.65, 1.16, 1.60, 2.03 and 2.67. There were no differences in growth performance and feed utilization among treatments. Fish fed higher DHA/EPA ratios had higher malondialdehyde (MDA) contents in serum than lower ratios. Serum triacylglycerol (TAG) content was significantly higher in fish fed the lowest DHA/EPA ratio. Tissue fatty acid profiles reflected the diets despite down-regulation of LC- PUFA biosynthesis genes, fatty acyl desaturase 2 (fads2) and elongase of very long-chain fatty acids 5 (elovl5), by high DHA/EPA ratios. Expression of acetyl-CoA carboxylase alpha (accα) and carnitine palmitoyl transferase 1A (cpt1a) were up-regulated by high DHA/EPA ratio, whereas sterol regulatory element-binding protein-1 (srebp-1) and hormone-sensitive lipase (hsl) were down-regulated. Fatty acid synthase (fas), 6-phosphogluconate dehydro- genase (6pgd) and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (pparα) showed highest expression in fish fed intermediate (1.16) DHA/EPA ratio. Overall, this study indicated that dietary DHA/EPA ratio affected fatty acid profiles and significantly influenced lipid metabo- lism including LC-PUFA biosynthesis and other anabolic and catabolic pathways, and also had impacts on antioxidant capacity and hematological characteristics
