Substituting gold for silver improves electrical connections

    Get PDF
In attaching external leads to thin film sensors of platinum ribbon, liquid gold is applied to each end of the ribbon and the leads are soldered to the cured gold. The cured and soldered liquid gold shows no tendency to migrate and retains initial resistance characteristics when exposed to elevated temperatures

Hydrology and sedimentology modeling on Illinois agricultural watersheds

The CREAMS (Chemicals, Runoff and Erosion from Agricultural Management Systems) model was evaluated for predicting runoff and sediment delivery from central Illinois fields without calibration. CREAMS was found to be fairly accurate in predicting annual runoff and sediment delivery, if parameter values were based on the best available information. The violation of the assumption of applying CREAMS to fields having uniform characteristics, was not critical if weighted averages for parameter values were used in expressing the variability of a field. The effect of variations in parameter values on runoff and sediment delivery predicted by CREAMS was determined. This analysis identified the parameters whose values must be accurately chosen so that CREAMS can produce accurate results. The parameters related to infiltration, sheet and rill erosion, soil detachment capacity by concentrated flow, and sediment transport by overland and concentrated flow were found to produce the most variation in the prediction of runoff and sediment delivery by CREAMS.U.S. Department of the InteriorU.S. Geological SurveyOpe

Thin film heat transfer gage is stable at higher temperatures

Thin film convective heat transfer gage functions effectively for prolonged periods at temperatures up to 1000 degrees F. An initial resistance shift does not inhibit the performance or accuracy of the gages, as the original resistance-temperature relationship remains unchanged

The development and synthesis of foundational ideas in four Debussy Préludes

    Get PDF
This study examines specific themes, called foundational ideas, in four of Claude Debussy's Prludes. These foundational ideas are presented as discrete pieces, then developed, and finally form a previously unforeseen synthesized whole. The two general conditions for the synthesis of foundational ideas are (a) the presence of common tones and (b) the occurrence of foundational ideas either simultaneously or consecutively.Field of study: Music.|Dr. Neil Minturn, Thesis Supervisor.Includes bibliographical references (pages 54-55)
