    Two mini-Neptunes Transiting the Adolescent K-star HIP 113103 Confirmed with TESS and CHEOPS

    We report the discovery of two mini-Neptunes in near 2:1 resonance orbits (P=7.610303P=7.610303 d for HIP 113103 b and P=14.245651P=14.245651 d for HIP 113103 c) around the adolescent K-star HIP 113103 (TIC 121490076). The planet system was first identified from the TESS mission, and was confirmed via additional photometric and spectroscopic observations, including a \sim17.5 hour observation for the transits of both planets using ESA CHEOPS. We place 4.5\leq4.5 min and 2.5\leq2.5 min limits on the absence of transit timing variations over the three year photometric baseline, allowing further constraints on the orbital eccentricities of the system beyond that available from the photometric transit duration alone. With a planetary radius of Rp=1.8290.067+0.096RR_{p}=1.829^{+0.096}_{-0.067}\,R_{\oplus}, HIP 113103 b resides within the radius gap, and this might provide invaluable information on the formation disparities between super-Earths and mini-Neptunes. Given the larger radius Rp=2.400.08+0.10RR_{p}=2.40^{+0.10}_{-0.08}\,R_{\oplus} for HIP 113103 c, and close proximity of both planets to HIP 113103, it is likely that HIP 113103 b might have lost (or is still losing) its primordial atmosphere. We therefore present simulated atmospheric transmission spectra of both planets using JWST, HST, and Twinkle. It demonstrates a potential metallicity difference (due to differences in their evolution) would be a challenge to detect if the atmospheres are in chemical equilibrium. As one of the brightest multi sub-Neptune planet systems suitable for atmosphere follow up, HIP 113103 b and HIP 113103 c could provide insight on planetary evolution for the sub-Neptune K-star population.Comment: 18 pages, 12 figures, accepted for publication in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Societ

    Frugal Innovation for Supply Chain Sustainability in SMEs: Multi-method Research Design

    In this study we attempt to establish the missing links between supply chain sustainability and frugal innovation. Our study motivations stem from two facets of the emerging markets: firstly, the institutional barriers and secondly, the resource constraints. We argue that there is a synergy in the concepts of frugal innovation and sustainability in supply chains and there is a need to further explore this synergy. Furthermore, we claim that even in the wake of many success stories in the frugal innovative supply chain management practices from emerging markets such as India, there are very few, if any, attempts made to understand the implications of a sustainability oriented frugal innovations in the particular context. To address this gap we develop a model to establish the linkage between sustainable supply chains and frugal innovations. Our proposed conceptual framework depicts the hierarchy and interlinks of the identified enablers in developing sustainability oriented frugal innovative capabilities in supply chains. Furthermore, we have empirically validated our theoretical framework using survey data. We observed that most of the interpretive links are supported. These findings extend the understanding of frugal innovation for supply chain sustainability using multi-method research design, while also providing theoretically guidance to managers in the development of frugal innovation capability to achieve sustainability in supply chain in resource constrained environment

    A mini-Neptune from TESS and CHEOPS around the 120 Myr Old AB Dor Member HIP 94235

    The Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) mission has enabled discoveries of the brightest transiting planet systems around young stars. These systems are the benchmarks for testing theories of planetary evolution. We report the discovery of a mini-Neptune transiting a bright star in the AB Doradus moving group. HIP 94235 (TOI-4399, TIC 464646604) is a Vmag = 8.31 G-dwarf hosting a 3.000.28+0.32R{3.00}_{-0.28}^{+0.32}\,{R}_{\oplus } mini-Neptune in a 7.7 day period orbit. HIP 94235 is part of the AB Doradus moving group, one of the youngest and closest associations. Due to its youth, the host star exhibits significant photometric spot modulation, lithium absorption, and X-ray emission. Three 0.06% transits were observed during Sector 27 of the TESS Extended Mission, though these transit signals are dwarfed by the 2% peak-to-peak photometric variability exhibited by the host star. Follow-up observations with the Characterising Exoplanet Satellite confirmed the transit signal and prevented the erosion of the transit ephemeris. HIP 94235 is part of a 50 au G-M binary system. We make use of diffraction limited observations spanning 11 yr, and astrometric accelerations from Hipparcos and Gaia, to constrain the orbit of HIP 94235 B. HIP 94235 is one of the tightest stellar binaries to host an inner planet. As part of a growing sample of bright, young planet systems, HIP 94235 b is ideal for follow-up transit observations, such as those that investigate the evaporative processes driven by high-energy radiation that may sculpt the valleys and deserts in the Neptune population

    BACKGROUND: Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) measures provide patient-centred evaluations of response to treatment. In the 12-week, Phase III PSO-ABLE study, fixed-combination calcipotriol 50 μg/g as hydrate (Cal) plus betamethasone 0.5 mg/g as dipropionate (BD) aerosol foam was significantly more effective for the treatment of psoriasis than Cal/BD gel. OBJECTIVE: To compare HRQoL in mild-severe psoriasis vulgaris patients (involving 2-30% body surface area) over 12 weeks of treatment with Cal/BD foam or gel. METHODS: HRQoL was assessed using: Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI), EuroQoL-5D-5L-PSO (EQ-5D), and Psoriasis QoL (PQoL-12) questionnaires (baseline, Weeks 4, 8 and 12); DLQI score of 0/1 (range: 0-30) and weighted EQ-5D utility index score of 1 (range: 0-1) indicates there is no impact on a patient\u27s QoL and perfect health, respectively. Itch, itch-related sleep loss, and work impairment were also assessed. RESULTS: In total, 463 patients were randomized to the study (Cal/BD foam, n = 185; Cal/BD gel, n = 188; foam vehicle, n = 47; gel vehicle, n = 43). Significantly more Cal/BD foam patients achieved DLQI scores of 0/1 at Weeks 4 (45.7% vs 32.4%; p = 0.013) and 12 (60.5% vs 44.1%; p = 0.003) than Cal/BD gel patients. Cal/BD foam significantly improved EQ-5D utility index (0.09 vs 0.03; p CONCLUSION: Cal/BD foam demonstrated greater HRQoL improvement in patients with psoriasis than Cal/BD gel over 12 weeks of treatment

    Multiepoch Detections of the Extended Atmosphere and Transmission Spectra of KELT-9b with a 1.5 m Telescope

    Irradiated Jovian atmospheres are complex and dynamic and can undergo temporal variations due to the close proximity of their parent stars. Of the Jovian planets that have been cataloged to date, KELT-9b is the hottest gas giant known, with an equilibrium temperature of 4050 K. We probe the temporal variability of transmission spectroscopic signatures from KELT-9b via a set of archival multiyear ground-based transit observations, performed with the TRES facility on the 1.5 m reflector at the Fred Lawrence Whipple Observatory. Our observations confirm past detections of Fe i , Fe ii , and Mg i over multiple epochs, in addition to excess absorption at H α , which is an indicator for ongoing mass loss. From our multiyear data set, the H α light curve consistently deviates from a standard transit and follows a “W” shape that is deeper near ingress and egress and shallower midtransit. To search for and quantify any seasonal variations that may be present, we parameterize a “cometary tail” model to fit for the H α transit. We find no detectable variations between the different observed epochs. Though a “cometary tail” describes the H α flux variations well, we note that such a scenario requires a high density of neutral hydrogen in the n = 2 excited state far beyond the planetary atmosphere. Other scenarios, such as center-to-limb variations larger than that expected from 1D atmosphere models, may also contribute to the observed H α transit shape. These multiepoch observations highlight the capabilities of small telescopes to provide temporal monitoring of the dynamics of exoplanet atmospheres
