Transnational Motherhood and the Production of Subjectivity: Experiences of migrant Brazilian women living in London

This study explores how transnational motherhood is experienced by a group of Brazilian women participating in the global care chain. Our analysis indicates that transnational motherhood is an experience ripe with contradictions and emotional constraints. On one hand, transnational motherhood can subjugate women for not conforming to conventional motherhood norms. On the other hand, the migratory experience allows women to (re)negotiate their maternal roles, producing new meanings for care and mothering practices

The Contemporary Monster: Notes On The Construction Of Pedophilia As Both A "political Cause" And A "police Case" [o Monstro Contemporâneo: Notas Sobre A Construção Da Pedofilia Como "causa Política" E "caso De Polícia"]

Based on an ethnographic fieldwork carried out within the Parliamentary Inquiry Committee (PIC) on Pedophilia, in the Brazilian Federal Senate, and the police inquiries of the Federal Police Department, the aim of this paper is to analyze the interconnection between the construction of "pedophilia" as both a political cause and a police case and the consequent production of the "pedophile" as the contemporary monster. In the ethnographic description of the public arena of the PIC, special attention is conferred to the centrality of emotions and to the political use of the images of child pornography. In the police investigations, on the other hand, the focus is directed to the police action of identification of "facts" and incrimination of the "culprit". Finally, it is suggested that the main "targets" of this "antipedophilia crusade" are blamed not so much for what they do (share, distribute, acquire, possess or store pornographic images involving minors), but because of the dangers associated with their desires. Da Materialidade Dos Corpos à Materialidade Do Crime: A Materialização Da Pornografia Infantil Em Investigações Policiais

The aim of this article is to discuss how the bodies that support the construction of the materiality of "crimes of child pornography" are constructed/ materialized in the context of investigative police work. Assuming that there is no pre-discursive bodily reality upon which social construction is realized, I suggest that the analytical operations carried out in relation to sex/gender may be utilized to understand the artificiality of the division between physiological and social sexual maturity (puberty). In a wider sense, it can be used to interpret the process of visually differentiating and identifying bodies as physical attributes of age. These conceptual formulations gain materiality in the ethnographic description of the analyses carried out by police officers, who define the images that can be classified as being "pornographic" and the bodies which can be identified as "children", making explicit how a detective-eye reciprocally constitutes the materiality of crime and the materiality of bodies, thereby producing the bodies it governs.193505528Diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders - fourth edition - text revision (2000), APA.
