Victimisation in the lives of lesbian-identified women in South Africa : implications for clinical assessment and treatment
Few clinical studies have examined victimisation in the lives of lesbian women in South Africa and whether there are distinct implications for psychological treatment. This paper presents the assessment and treatment of a lesbian-identified South African survivor of childhood sexual abuse who, as an adult, was raped and later gang raped. Her victimisation in adulthood represented ‘corrective rape’ motivated by the prejudiced assumption that the sexuality of lesbian women is pathological and should be ‘corrected’ through rape. This paper lends insights into the role of heterosexism in shaping vulnerability to victimisation and the process of recovery. It provides recommendations for work with sexual minority clients and highlights the implications when there is an absence of safety and support in the external environment
Antibiotic Permeation across the OmpF Channel: Modulation of the Affinity Site in the Presence of Magnesium
We characterize the rate-limiting interaction of the antibiotic
10 enrofloxacin with OmpF, a channel from the outer cell wall of Escherichia coli.
11 Reconstitution of a single OmpF trimer into planar lipid membranes allows
12 measurement of the ion current through the channel. Penetration of antibiotics causes
13 ion current blockages, and their frequency allows a conclusion on the kinetics of
14 channel entry and exit. In contrast to other antibiotics, enrofloxacin is able to block the
15 OmpF channel for several milliseconds, reflecting high affinities comparable to
16 substrate-specific channels such as the maltodextrin-specific maltoporin. Surprisingly,
17 the presence of a divalent ion such as Mg2+ leads to fast flickering with an increase in
18 the rates of association and dissociation. All-atom computer modeling provides the
19 most probable pathway able to identify the relevant rate-limiting interaction during antibiotic permeation. Mg2+ has a high affinity
20 for the aspartic acid at the 113 position (D113) in the center of the OmpF intracellular binding site. Therefore, the presence of Mg2+
21 reverses the charge and enrofloxacin may cross the constriction region in its favorable orientation with the carboxylic group first
LPS: A Language Prototyping System Using Modular Monadic Semantics
This paper describes LPS, a Language Prototyping System that facilitates the modular development of interpreters from semantic building blocks. The system is based on the integration of ideas from Modular Monadic Semantics and Generic Programming. To define a new programming language, the abstract syntax is described as the fixpoint of non-recursive pattern functors. For each functor an algebra is defined whose carrier is the computational monad obtained from the application of several monad transformers to a base monad. The interpreter is automatically generated by a catamorphism or, in some special cases, a monadic catamorphism. The system has been implemented as a domain-specific language embedded in Haskell and we have also implemented an interactive framework for language testing.
Specification of Logic Programming Languages from Reusable Semantic Building Blocks
We specify a logic programming language using a combination of modular monadic semantics and generic programming concepts
Un enfoque del Aprendizaje Colaborativo en el Diseño de una Componente “e-Learning ” para el Proyecto IDEFIX en el Ámbito del Open Source/Free Source
This paper presents a proposal of design of a component "e-Learning " as a artifact not embedded for the IDEFIX Framework, suggesting the use of services Web for its integration and functionality. The design of this component is inside the environment of CSCL, and it is based on a model of collaborative learning that uses "e-meetings " of learning small groups through the Web. Their implementation has double purpose. In the first place, to allow in "e-meetings " the collaborative development of exercises to student's groups and the training in the resolution of exams by means of a virtual reality game, and in second place to contribute to the scope of the Open Source and Free Source
