A Spectral Line Survey of Selected 3 mm Bands Toward Sagittarius B2(N-LMH) Using the NRAO 12 Meter Radio Telescope and the BIMA Array I. The Observational Data
We have initiated a spectral line survey, at a wavelength of 3 millimeters,
toward the hot molecular core Sagittarius B2(N-LMH). This is the first spectral
line survey of the Sgr B2(N) region utilizing data from both an interferometer
(BIMA Array) and a single-element radio telescope (NRAO 12 meter). In this
survey, covering 3.6 GHz in bandwidth, we detected 218 lines (97 identified
molecular transitions, 1 recombination line, and 120 unidentified transitions).
This yields a spectral line density (lines per 100 MHz) of 6.06, which is much
larger than any previous 3 mm line survey. We also present maps from the BIMA
Array that indicate that most highly saturated species (3 or more H atoms) are
products of grain chemistry or warm gas phase chemistry. Due to the nature of
this survey we are able to probe each spectral line on multiple spatial scales,

Comment on ``Large-space shell-model calculations for light nuclei''
In a recent publication Zheng, Vary, and Barrett reproduced the negative
quadrupole moment of Li-6 and the low-lying positive-parity states of He-5 by
using a no-core shell model. In this Comment we question the meaning of these
results by pointing out that the model used is inadequate for the reproduction

Refinement Types for Logical Frameworks and Their Interpretation as Proof Irrelevance
Refinement types sharpen systems of simple and dependent types by offering
expressive means to more precisely classify well-typed terms. We present a
system of refinement types for LF in the style of recent formulations where
only canonical forms are well-typed. Both the usual LF rules and the rules for
type refinements are bidirectional, leading to a straightforward proof of
decidability of typechecking even in the presence of intersection types.
Because we insist on canonical forms, structural rules for subtyping can now be
derived rather than being assumed as primitive. We illustrate the expressive
power of our system with examples and validate its design by demonstrating a
precise correspondence with traditional presentations of subtyping. Proof
irrelevance provides a mechanism for selectively hiding the identities of terms
in type theories. We show that LF refinement types can be interpreted as
predicates using proof irrelevance, establishing a uniform relationship between
two previously studied concepts in type theory. The interpretation and its
correctness proof are surprisingly complex, lending support to the claim that
refinement types are a fundamental construct rather than just a convenient
surface syntax for certain uses of proof irrelevance
A Spectral Line Survey from 138.3 to 150.7 GHZ toward Orion-KL
We present the results of a spectral line survey from 138.3 to 150.7 GHz
toward Orion-KL. The observations were made using the 14 m radio telescope of
Taeduk Radio Astronomy Observatory. Typical system temperatures were between
500 and 700 K, with the sensitivity between K in units of .
A total of 149 line spectra are detected in this survey. Fifty lines have
been previously reported, however we find 99 new detections. Among these new
lines, 32 are `unidentified', while 67 are from molecular transitions with
known identifications. There is no detection of H or He recombination lines.
The identified spectra are from a total of 16 molecular species and their
isotopic variants. In the range from 138.3 to 150.7 GHz, the strongest spectral
line is the J=3-2 transition of CS molecule, followed by transitions of the
, , , and . Spectral lines from
the large organic molecules such as , , , and are prominent; with 80 % of the
identified lines arising from transitions of these molecules. The rotational
temperatures and column densities are derived using the standard rotation
diagram analysis for (), , and with and . These estimates are fairly comparable to the values for the

The neutron halo of He in a microscopic model
The two--neutron separation energy of He has been reproduced for the
first time in a realistic parameter--free microscopic multicluster model
comprising the and clusterizations, with cluster
breathing excitations included. The contribution of the channel is
substantial. A very thick (0.85 fm) neutron halo has been found in full

The Arecibo Arp 220 Spectral Census I: Discovery of the Pre-Biotic Molecule Methanimine and New Cm-wavelength Transitions of Other Molecules
An on-going Arecibo line search between 1.1 and 10 GHz of the prototypical
starburst/megamaser galaxy, Arp 220, has revealed a spectrum rich in molecular
transitions. These include the ``pre-biotic'' molecules: methanimine
(CHNH) in emission, three direct l-type absorption lines of
HCN, and an absorption feature likely to be from either OH or formic
acid (HCOOH). In addition, we report the detection of two, possibly three,
transitions of 4-cm excited OH not previously detected in Arp~220
which are seen in absorption, and a possible absorption feature from the
6.668-GHz line of methanol. This marks the first distant extragalactic
detection of methanimine, a pre-biotic molecule. Also, if confirmed, the
possible methanol absorption line presented here would represent the first
extragalactic detection of methanol at a distance further than 10 Mpc. In
addition, the strong, previously undetected, cm-wave HCN direct
l-type lines will aid the study of dense molecular gas and active star-forming

Resonance phenomena in ultracold dipole-dipole scattering
Elastic scattering resonances occurring in ultracold collisions of either
bosonic or fermionic polar molecules are investigated. The Born-Oppenheimer
adiabatic representation of the two-bodydynamics provides both a qualitative
classification scheme and a quantitative WKB quantization condition that
predicts several sequences of resonant states. It is found that the
near-threshold energy dependence of ultracold collision cross sections varies
significantly with the particle exchange symmetry, with bosonic systems showing
much smoother energy variations than their fermionic counterparts. Resonant
variations of the angular distributions in ultracold collisions are also

The Rarita-Schwinger Particles Under de Influence of Strong Magnetic Fields
In this work, we calculate the solutions of the Rarita-Schwinger equation
with the inclusion of the eletromagnetic interaction. Our gauge and coupling
prescription choices lead to Dirac-type solutions. One of the consequences of
our results are the Landau level occupation of particles, quite different from
the usual spin 1/2 particle system occupation numbers.Comment: 12 page
The detection of extragalactic N: Consequences for nitrogen nucleosynthesis and chemical evolution
Detections of extragalactic N are reported from observations of the
rare hydrogen cyanide isotope HCN toward the Large Magellanic Cloud
(LMC) and the core of the (post-) starburst galaxy NGC 4945. Accounting for
optical depth effects, the LMC data from the massive star-forming region N113
infer a N ratio of 111 17, about twice the C
value. For the LMC star-forming region N159HW and for the central region of NGC
4945, N ratios are also 100. The N ratios
are smaller than all interstellar nitrogen isotope ratios measured in the disk
and center of the Milky Way, strongly supporting the idea that N is
predominantly of `primary' nature, with massive stars being its dominant
source. Although this appears to be in contradiction with standard stellar
evolution and nucleosynthesis calculations, it supports recent findings of
abundant N production due to rotationally induced mixing of protons into
