Black Hole Hair Removal: Non-linear Analysis
BMPV black holes in flat transverse space and in Taub-NUT space have
identical near horizon geometries but different microscopic degeneracies. It
has been proposed that this difference can be accounted for by different
contribution to the degeneracies of these black holes from hair modes, --
degrees of freedom living outside the horizon. In this paper we explicitly
construct the hair modes of these two black holes as finite bosonic and
fermionic deformations of the black hole solution satisfying the full
non-linear equations of motion of supergravity and preserving the supersymmetry
of the original solutions. Special care is taken to ensure that these solutions
do not have any curvature singularity at the future horizon when viewed as the
full ten dimensional geometry. We show that after removing the contribution due
to the hair degrees of freedom from the microscopic partition function, the
partition functions of the two black holes agree.Comment: 40 pages, LaTe
Nernst branes from special geometry
We construct new black brane solutions in gauged
supergravity with a general cubic prepotential, which have entropy density
as and thus satisfy the Nernst Law. By using
the real formulation of special geometry, we are able to obtain analytical
solutions in closed form as functions of two parameters, the temperature
and the chemical potential . Our solutions interpolate between
hyperscaling violating Lifshitz geometries with at the
horizon and at infinity. In the zero temperature limit,
where the entropy density goes to zero, we recover the extremal Nernst branes
of Barisch et al, and the parameters of the near horizon geometry change to

Dynamic SU(2) Structure from Seven-branes
We obtain a family of supersymmetric solutions of type IIB supergravity with
dynamic SU(2) structure, which describe the local geometry near a stack of four
D7-branes and one O7-plane wrapping a rigid four-cycle. The deformation to a
generalized complex geometry is interpreted as a consequence of nonperturbative
effects in the seven-brane gauge theory. We formulate the problem for
seven-branes wrapping the base of an appropriate del Pezzo cone, and in the
near-stack limit in which the four-cycle is flat, we obtain an exact solution
in closed form. Our solutions serve to characterize the local geometry of

Nernst branes in gauged supergravity
We study static black brane solutions in the context of N = 2 U(1) gauged
supergravity in four dimensions. Using the formalism of first-order flow
equations, we construct novel extremal black brane solutions including examples
of Nernst branes, i.e. extremal black brane solutions with vanishing entropy
density. We also discuss a class of non-extremal generalizations which is

Extremal Multicenter Black Holes: Nilpotent Orbits and Tits Satake Universality Classes
Four dimensional supergravity theories whose scalar manifold is a symmetric
coset manifold U[D=4]/Hc are arranged into a finite list of Tits Satake
universality classes. Stationary solutions of these theories, spherically
symmetric or not, are identified with those of an euclidian three-dimensional
sigma-model, whose target manifold is a Lorentzian coset U[D=3]/H* and the
extremal ones are associated with H* nilpotent orbits in the K* representation
emerging from the orthogonal decomposition of the algebra U[D=3] with respect
to H*. It is shown that the classification of such orbits can always be reduced
to the Tits-Satake projection and it is a class property of the Tits Satake
universality classes. The construction procedure of Bossard et al of extremal
multicenter solutions by means of a triangular hierarchy of integrable
equations is completed and converted into a closed algorithm by means of a
general formula that provides the transition from the symmetric to the solvable
gauge. The question of the relation between H* orbits and charge orbits W of
the corresponding black holes is addressed and also reduced to the
corresponding question within the Tits Satake projection. It is conjectured
that on the vanishing locus of the Taub-NUT current the relation between
H*-orbit and W-orbit is rigid and one-to-one. All black holes emerging from
multicenter solutions associated with a given H* orbit have the same W-type.
For the S^3 model we provide a complete survey of its multicenter solutions
associated with all of the previously classified nilpotent orbits of sl(2) x
sl(2) within g[2,2]. We find a new intrinsic classification of the W-orbits of
this model that might provide a paradigm for the analogous classification in

Study design and baseline characteristics of patients on dialysis in the ASCEND-D trial
BACKGROUND: The Anemia Studies in chronic kidney disease (CKD): Erythropoiesis via a Novel prolyl hydroxylase inhibitor (PHI) Daprodustat-Dialysis (ASCEND-D) trial will test the hypothesis that daprodustat is non-inferior to comparator epoetin alfa or darbepoetin alfa for two co-primary endpoints: haemoglobin efficacy and cardiovascular safety. METHODS: We report the trial design, key demographic, clinical, and laboratory findings, and baseline therapies of 2964 patients randomised in the open-label (sponsor-blinded) active-controlled, parallel-group, randomised ASCEND-D clinical trial. We also compare baseline characteristics of ASCEND-D patients with patients who are on dialysis (CKD G5D) enrolled in other large cardiovascular outcome trials (CVOTs) and in the most relevant registries. RESULTS: The median age of patients was 58âyears, 43% were female; 67% were white and 16% were black. The median haemoglobin at baseline was 10.4âg/dL. Among randomised patients, 89% were receiving haemodialysis and 11% peritoneal dialysis. Among key co-morbidities, 42% reported a history of diabetes mellitus, and 45% a history of cardiovascular disease. Median blood pressure was 134/74âmmHg. The median weekly dose of epoetin was 5751 units. Intravenous and oral iron use was noted in 64% and 11% of patients, respectively. Baseline demographics were similar to patients with CKD G5D enrolled in other CVOTs and renal patient registries. CONCLUSION: ASCEND-D will evaluate the efficacy and safety of daprodustat compared with epoetin alfa or darbepoetin alfa in the treatment of patients with anaemia with CKD G5D
Stringy effects in black hole decay
We compute the low energy decay rates of near-extremal three(four) charge
black holes in five(four) dimensional N=4 string theory to sub-leading order in
the large charge approximation. This involves studying stringy corrections to
scattering amplitudes of a scalar field off a black hole. We adapt and use
recently developed techniques to compute such amplitudes as near-horizon
quantities. We then compare this with the corresponding calculation in the
microscopic configuration carrying the same charges as the black hole. We find
perfect agreement between the microscopic and macroscopic calculations; in the
cases we study, the zero energy limit of the scattering cross section is equal
to four times the Wald entropy of the black hole.Comment: 32 page
