Studies of molecular properties of polymeric materials
Aerospace environment effects (high energy electrons, thermal cycling, atomic oxygen, and aircraft fluids) on polymeric and composite materials considered for structural use in spacecraft and advanced aircraft are examined. These materials include Mylar, Ultem, and Kapton. In addition to providing information on the behavior of the materials, attempts are made to relate the measurements to the molecular processes occurring in the material. A summary and overview of the technical aspects are given along with a list of the papers that resulted from the studies. The actual papers are included in the appendices and a glossary of technical terms and definitions is included in the front matter

Phases of lattice hard core bosons in a periodic superlattice
We study by Quantum Monte Carlo simulations the phase diagram of lattice hard
core bosons with nearest-neighbour repulsive interactions, in the presence of a
super-lattice of adsorption sites. For a moderate adsorption strength, the
system forms crystal phases registered with the adsorption lattice; a
"supersolid" phase exists, on both the vacancy and interstitial sides, whereas
at commensuration the superfluid density vanishes. The possible relevance of
these results to experiments on He films adsorbed on graphite is discussed.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure
Analysis of Density Matrix reconstruction in NMR Quantum Computing
Reconstruction of density matrices is important in NMR quantum computing. An
analysis is made for a 2-qubit system by using the error matrix method. It is
found that the state tomography method determines well the parameters that are
necessary for reconstructing the density matrix in NMR quantum computations.
Analysis is also made for a simplified state tomography procedure that uses
fewer read-outs. The result of this analysis with the error matrix method
demonstrates that a satisfactory accuracy in density matrix reconstruction can
be achieved even in a measurement with the number of read-outs being largely

Dynamic magnetic response of infinite arrays of ferromagnetic particles
Recently developed techniques to find the eigenmodes of a ferromagnetic
particle of arbitrary shape, as well as the absorption in the presence of an
inhomogeneous radio-frequency field, are extended to treat infinite lattices of
such particles. The method is applied to analyze the results of recent FMR
experiments, and yields substantially good agreement between theory and
experiment
SU(3)_LxU(1)_N Model for Right-Handed Neutrino Neutral Currents
A model based on the \mbox{SU(3)}_L\otimes \mbox{U(1)}_N gauge group, in
which neutrinos have right-handed neutral currents is considered. We argue that
in order to have a result consistent with low-energy one, the right-handed
neutrino component must be treated as correction instead of an equivalent spin
