The study was carried out to discover the relationship between the performance characteristics (20 m. running, vertical jump, standing long jump, ball throwing, shuttle run) and the body mass index of 8-10 year-old school children. 3772 children (1995 male and 1777 female) aged 8-10 from Ankara participated in the study voluntarily. To measure the height of the children a stadiometer with ± 1mm graduation (Holtain, UK) and to measure their weight a stand art medical scale with ± 0.1kg readability were used. After the height and weight measurements, body mass indexes (BMI) of the children were calculated. Then, 20 m. running, vertical jump, standing long jump, ball throwing, shuttle run tests were applied to the children. To compare the mean values and to determine the differences between the groups T Test was applied and statistical correlation analysis was done to study the relationship between the Body Mass Index (BMI) and the Performance Characteristics(20 m. running, vertical jump, standing long jump, ball throwing, shuttle run). A statistically meaningful difference was defined between the female and the male participants when their mean points in body weight and height, body mass index, vertical jump, standing long jump, 20 m. run, ball throwing, and shuttle run(p<0.05) compared. In this comparison, while the average points of the male children in body weight and height, body mass index, vertical jump, standing long jump, ball throwing, and shuttle run were higher, their average points in 20 m. run were lower than the female children. It was observed that there was a relationship at a meaningful level and with a negative tendency between the points of body mass index of the male and female children and their vertical jump(r=-0.046, p<0.01), and standing long jump(r=-0.046, p<0.01) and shuttle run points(r= -0.229, p< 0.01). As to the relationship between the body mass index and 20 m run(r= 0.094, p< 0.01) and ball throwing (r= 0.286, p< 0.01), it was meaningful with a positive tendency. In our study, it was determined that the male children had better results than the female children according to the test results related to the physical characteristics and performance measurements. It has been concluded that the differences found stem from the gender difference and depending upon the environmental and cultural factors at these ages, the male children are thought to have a better development in terms of performance characteristics

Human Rights for Health across the United Nations

The United Nations (UN) plays a central role in realizing human rights to advance global health. Looking beyond state obligations, the UN has called on all its specialized agencies to mainstream human rights across all their activities. With globalization compelling these UN institutions to meet an expanding set of global challenges to underlying determinants of health, human rights are guiding these international organizations in addressing public health. These international organizations within the UN system are actively engaged in implementing health-related human rights—in both their mission and their actions to carry out that mission. Through this mainstreaming of human rights, global health institutions have embraced human rights treaty obligations as a framework for global governance. Given the dramatic development of human rights law through the UN and the parallel proliferation of UN institutions devoted to global health and development, there arises an imperative to understand the implementation of human rights in global health governance. This special section analyzes the evolving UN focus on health and human rights in global governance, examining an expansive set of UN institutions that employ human rights in responding to public health challenges in a rapidly globalizing world. To understand the ways in which human rights are implemented, this special section examines the role of institutions across the UN system in the realization of human rights for public health. Drawing from our recent Oxford University Press volume on Human Rights in Global Health: Rights-Based Governance for a Globalizing World, this special section brings together several of the contributors to analyze ongoing efforts to reform UN institutions to mainstream human rights. These contributors—from academia, nongovernmental organizations, and the UN system—explore (1) the foundations of human rights as a framework for global governance, (2) the work of UN organizations across a range of health-related human rights, (3) the influence of rights-based economic governance on public health, and (4) the advancement of health through UN human rights institutions. Looking beyond the chapters in Human Rights in Global Health, this special section examines how international institutions are changing to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with sweeping implications for the mainstreaming of human rights for health across the UN

I was a nigger, still : Black and White Bodies in the Gay Art of the Twentieth Century

“It’s amazing to me that even the rampant homophobia in the South doesn’t put a dent in the sense of racial privilege presumed by the white gay men who patronize this clear example of racism and misogyny disguised as entertainment.” Lecia Brooks, the education director for the Civil Rights Memorial Center in Montgomery, Alabama, gave this statement to Rolling Stone magazine in 2007 to explain her protests against comedian Charles Knipp, known on stage as Shirley Q. Liquor. While Knipp’s jokes are racist, the major issue with his performances, as Brooks tells us, is his use of blackface minstrelsy as his act. Knipp, a white gay man, dons a large muumuu and masquerades as “a welfare mother with nineteen kids who guzzles malt liquor, drives a Caddy and says in an ‘ignunt’ Gulf Coast black dialect, ‘I’m gonna burn me up some chitlins and put some ketchup on there and aks [sic] Jesus to forgive my sins.’

This research was conducted to determine how hospital performance is measured by Value for money is the efficiency, effectiveness and economy. Research conducted at Siti Khadijah Islamic Hospital Palembang. The data used in analyzing the problem is secondary data in the form of budget and actual revenue and expenditure hospitals, and medical record documents. While the analytical technique used is quantitative analysis technique, a method of analyzing a series of information is data in the form of numbers or information obtained from the results reported in comparison with the theory that supports the analysis of quantitative data with measurements of efficiency, effectiveness, and economical. After research conducted a few indicators that do not meet the standard, showing the performance of Siti Khadijah Islamic hospital in Palembang is not optimal. For that the hospital would expect to make best efforts to evacuate and follow up reports of health services to the community level to maximum, and more careful in planning and realizing the needs, facilities and infrastructure to be guided by regulations

Then, it characterizes their relationship with neoliberal capitalism in terms of dispossession, expropriation and configuration. Finally, it discusses if the common can be thought as an alternative form of cooperation and self-government with regards to neoliberalism and to what extent it can be posed as a complete alternative to the state

Reliability of Public Private Partnership Projects under Assumptions of Cash Flow Volatility

This paper focuses on dynamic financial modelling of recurring cash flow items in PPP projects in operating stage and on risks associated with the volatility of these cash flows. As we concentrate on so-called government-pays schemes, only cash-outflows are considered, such as operating costs, repairs and maintenance expenses, and administration costs, whereas the revenue side is considered to be not at risk. We show different approaches to modelling the uncertainty of recurring operating expenses and explain how to interpret the results. Our analysis is based on the mathematical framework of stochastic processes, which, in finance, are particularly used to describe price series evolutions in capital markets. We apply them to generate variable trajectories of operating costs and integrate them into a stochastic simulation of the financial model.
