The meaning of metaphor in dealing with celebrity death online

The purpose of this paper is to discuss the relevance of deliberate metaphor in the context of online articles about celebrity death. Qualitative analysis of the structure of the expressions reveals that the main motivation for using metaphor is dealing with emotions. The aim behind this is twofold: illustration and coping. While some of the analysed articles aim to merely illustrate people’s reactions, all of them include the elements of coping with emotions of grief, which is why the paper re-examines the posits of previous research on metaphors’ therapeutic functions (cf. e.g. Stanojevid and Čičin-Šain 2015, Tay 2015). The significance of deliberate metaphor in this context lies in its ability to convey personal experiences in a relatable way, in order to achieve the so-called therapeutic alliance, which enables people to understand each other more closely. Whether the analysed article’s purpose was to comment or inform about the critical event, the basic intention behind the use of deliberate metaphors remained the same – providing a link between the reader and the public in coping with celebrity death

Access, choice, and guidance in German Health Care: An account of health policy reforms since 2004

This paper discusses the influence of recent health care reform acts in Germany on choice, guidance and access from the perspective of patients, insured, insurers, and health care providers. Particular emphasis is put on health policy reforms since 2004, i.e. the Social Health Insurance Modernization Act 2004 and the most recent Social Health Insurance Competition Strengthening Act 2007. Various aspects of the reforms are included as long as they have an influence on access, choice, and choice to health care in Germany. -- Dieser Beitrag diskutiert den Einfluss vergangener gesundheitspolitischer Reformgesetze in Deutschland auf Wahl- und Wechselmöglichkeiten, Steuerung und Zugang aus der Sicht von Patienten, Versicherten, Versicherungen und Leistungsanbietern. Dabei werden insbesondere das Gesetz zur Modernisierung der Gesetzlichen Krankenversicherung 2004 (GMG) sowie das Gesetz zur Stärkung des Wettbewerbs in der Gesetzlichen Krankenversicherung 2007 (GKV-WSG) betrachtet.

An analysis of Bošković’s early paper concerned with the polar light (aurora borealis) gives an insight into the validity of the mathematical method which the young Bošković applied to significant geophysical phenomena in order to comprehend their nature. Based on the given data, we have examined numerical results about the height of atmosphere and the heights of the auroras which were observed over Europe in 1726 and in 1737. In his text there is not a single mathematical formula. Following his instructions we have derived a formula which may be used to determine the distance of an aurora by observing it from one station. For the assumed aurora model, his method is applicable. We find that described ideas on the physical cause of aurora, conceived in a fluid coming from the sun, have elements of modern knowledge.Analiza Boškovićeve rane rasprave o polarnoj svjetlosti pruža uvid u snagu matematičkog postupka koji je mladi Bošković primijenio na istaknute geofizičke pojave, s namjerom da shvati njihovu prirodu. Na temelju danih podataka provjerili smo numeričke rezultate o visini atmosfere i visini polarnih svjetlosti koje su u Europi viđene 1726. i 1737. godine. U njegovu tekstu nema niti jedne ispisane matematičke formule. Slijedeći pak njegove upute, izveli smo formulu koja se može koristiti da bi se visina polarne svjetlosti odredila promatranjem s jednog motrišta. Primjenjivost metode, uz pretpostavljeni model polarne svjetlosti, prikladna je. Nalazimo da izložena ideja o fizičkom uzroku polarne svjetlosti, koji se traži u zamišljenim emanacijama Sunca, sadrži elemente suvremenih shvaćanja

Reaction of several a-substituted ferrocenylmethanols 1 with diethyl malonate gave condensation products 3, which were hydrolized and decar- boxylated to p-ferrocenylbutyric acid (6a) and p-aryl-p-ferrocenylpropionic acids (6b-6e). Similarly, starting from a,a\u27-disubstituted l,l\u27-ferrocenylene- bismethanols 2 p,p-(l,l\u27-ferrocenylene)bis(butyric acid) (11a) and P,P-(1,1\u27- ferrocenylene)bis(p-arylpropionic acids) (llb-lle) have been obtained via 8 and 9. The mechanism of these condensation reactions which includes transesterification of diethyl malonate with carbinols 1 and 2 has been proposed
