YourNow : Daimler´s and BMW´s joint road towards new mobility?
In the late 1990s the Dynamic Capabilities framework by Teece et al. (1997) shifted the focus
of strategic management to an individual company’s resources and its ability to adapt them to
external market trends. Refined by Barreto (2010), this resource-based view serves as a
theoretical framework for this thesis, which aims at examining the development of a strategic,
technological partnership between two established industrial companies.
Hereby, Daimler and BMW, two of Germany’s leading automotive manufacturers are used as
a real-world example in the form of a case study. The case depicts the current developments in
the automotive industry and the opportunities available in the field of new mobility for
traditional manufacturing companies. It outlines Daimler’s and BMW’s historical milestones
and their path towards their mobility joint venture YourNow, launched in early 2019.
From a strategic point of view, the case highlights the companies’ motives for the joint venture.
It analyzes the exogenous shocks the companies faced, urging the former rivals to cooperate.
Furthermore, the case evaluates the joint venture’s capabilities to succeed in the highly
estabelecidas no mercado.
rivais a cooperar. Além disso, o caso avalia as capacidades da joint venture ser bem sucedida
no mercado altamente competitivo da mobilidade, em meados de 2020
Redefining the Nexus: The Convergence of Information Literacy, Scholarly Communication and Data Literacy
The March 2013, ARCL Committee on Research and the Scholarly Environment White Paper, “Intersections of Scholarly Communication and Information Literacy”, discussed the intersection of two initiatives and the evolving environment in academic libraries, as well as explored the “economics of the distribution of scholarship, digital literacies, and our changing roles.” However, in technical libraries, scholarly communication and information literacy initiatives are converging with data literacy initiatives. Until recently, as highlighted in Common Ground at the Nexus of Information Literacy & Scholarly Communication, the conversations surrounding scholarly communication, information literacy, and data literacy have taken place in disparate and siloed environments (Gelfand & Palmer, 2013). “In higher education, library instruction is often focused on supporting students in understanding how to find, evaluate, access, and use scholarly information (Duckett & Warren, 2013).” At Purdue University, the conversations have evolved to include data literacy and competencies in our instruction. This poster will showcase an emerging convergence model of the intersections of scholarly communication, information literacy, and data literacy initiatives and services, and discuss the changing roles of librarians in academic libraries

Incorporation of aptamers in the terminal loop of shRNAs yields an effective and novel combinatorial targeting strategy.
Gene therapy by engineering patient's own blood cells to confer HIV resistance can potentially lead to a functional cure for AIDS. Toward this goal, we have previously developed an anti-HIV lentivirus vector that deploys a combination of shRNA, ribozyme and RNA decoy. To further improve this therapeutic vector against viral escape, we sought an additional reagent to target HIV integrase. Here, we report the development of a new strategy for selection and expression of aptamer for gene therapy. We developed a SELEX protocol (multi-tag SELEX) for selecting RNA aptamers against proteins with low solubility or stability, such as integrase. More importantly, we expressed these aptamers in vivo by incorporating them in the terminal loop of shRNAs. This novel strategy allowed efficient expression of the shRNA-aptamer fusions that targeted RNAs and proteins simultaneously. Expressed shRNA-aptamer fusions targeting HIV integrase or reverse transcriptase inhibited HIV replication in cell cultures. Viral inhibition was further enhanced by combining an anti-integrase aptamer with an anti-HIV Tat-Rev shRNA. This construct exhibited efficacy comparable to that of integrase inhibitor Raltegravir. Our strategy for the selection and expression of RNA aptamers can potentially extend to other gene therapy applications
THE EFFECT OF CONTROL OVER WORK SCHEDULE, AVAILABILITY OF RESOURCES, UTILIZATION OF RESOURCES, AND WORK-SCHOOL-LIFE DEMANDS ON WELLNESS
With college students working an ever increasing number of hours, the demands placed on them from multiple roles is often significant leading to decreases in their overall wellness. This study used the job demands-resources perspective (Bakker & Demerouti, 2007) to examine how the availability and utilization of resources buffered the negative effects of work-school-life demands (WSLD) on student wellness. Wellness, a multidimensional construct, defines an active process in which people attempt to better themselves to achieve their full potential (Dunn, 1957; Hettler, 1980). We hypothesize that the availability and utilization of life resources will moderate the effect of WSLD on overall wellness. Consistent with the JD-R model, we predicted that there would be a negative relationship between life demands and wellness for those with lower levels of resources, whereas those with higher resources were predicted to report higher wellness regardless of their level of life demands
Opportunities and Challenges of Data Publication: A Case from Purdue
Beginning in 2011, there have been several policy changes directly affecting the management, preservation, and accessibility of publically funded research and resulting research data in the United States. On January 18, 2011 the National Science Foundation (NSF) required data management plans to be submitted with all grant proposals (National Science Foundation, 2013). On February 22, 2013, the Office of Science and Technology Policy of the President of the United States extended a similar requirement to all federal agencies that have a research and development budget of more than $100 million (Holdren, 2013). These requirements illustrate the need for further coordination and management of data as scholarship and traditional scholarship in integrated publishing solutions.
The case study presented in this paper will illustrate an early initiative at Purdue University to integrate discrete data publications with traditional scholarly publications through leveraging new and existing repository platforms and services (Zilinski, Scherer, Bullock, Horton, & Matthews). Examination of the case study will involve a discussion of workflow integration between Purdue’s data repository, the Purdue University Research Repository (PURR); its traditional press, the Purdue University Press (PUP); and the institutional repository, Purdue e-Pubs
Assessing Data Linking in Transportation Technical Reports
In 2013, the Purdue Libraries partnered with the Joint Transportation Research Program (JTRP), a collaboration between Purdue University and the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), to incorporate the publication of research data sets into the technical report publication process. This project extended an existing process, developed in partnership between the Purdue Libraries, Purdue University Press, and JTRP, which leveraged Purdue\u27s institutional repository to replace artisanal production processes with a more professional approach (Zilinski, Scherer, Bullock, Horton, & Matthews, forthcoming; Newton, Bullock, Watkinson, Bracke, & Horton, 2012). The existing workflow focused on production of textual documents, but did not address opportunities related to research data or geospatial information within the reports. The new workflow was intended to improve access to, and usability of, research data embedded in the reports by combining functions of Purdue e-Pubs with functions of the Purdue University Research Repository (PURR). This paper will present a framework for repository assessment including performance indicators and instruments measuring the impact of leveraging data and institutional repositories for linking publications to data. This framework will allow us to address research questions such as: What is the strategic value of linking data and publication for researchers and research centers? How can repositories contribute to key performance outcomes for researchers and research center administrators? What is the value of this initiative to library administration? Why is this relationship and initiative important to the libraries in developing repository and data services
Buffering Role of Perceptions of Work-Life Balance on the Relationship Between External Obligations and Health
The study proposed that perceptions of work-life balance (WLB) among employed college students is a critical antecedent of student health. We also predicted and found evidence suggesting that how students perceive their life demands influences WLB, with WLB being enhanced for those perceiving life-demands positively and being undermined for those with negative views of their life demands. In this online study of 119 working college students, we found that WLB completely mediated the effect of external obligations on health. Specifically, health outcomes were higher among employed students when they perceived their external obligations as providing balance in their lives
Publication Integration at Purdue: A Comprehensive Publication Workflow for Traditional Publications and Data Publications
Many funders around the world have begun to recognize the importance of providing free access to research results, which includes publications and data. There has also been an increased interest in the management, dissemination, and access of research data, leading to an increase in the development of research data repositories and the linkage of data to publications. One example is Dryad, a curated general-purpose repository that makes the data underlying scientific publications discoverable, freely reusable, and citable. A highlight of the Dryad repository is the submission integration service to authors and publishers, which integrates the submission of publication manuscripts with the submission of data to Dryad. Purdue University has developed a comprehensive publication workflow to integrate discrete data publications with traditional scholarly publications through leveraging new and existing repository platforms and library services throughout the research lifecycle. This poster will illustrate this early initiative between the Purdue e-Pubs Repository, the Purdue University Research Repository (PURR), and the Joint Transportation Research Program (JTRP). With this new initiative the Purdue repositories can now provide Purdue faculty, graduate students, and staff an integrated solution for the publishing and linkage of discrete scholarly publications and research data
