The deltamethrin impregnated mosquito nets not only prevent but also control malaria, dengue fever and other vector-bone diseases. However, the deltamethrin concentration and bio-efficacy of mosquito nets can reduce due to washing. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of washing on deltamethrin concentration and bio-efficacy of military insecticide-treated mosquito nets. High Performance Liquid Chromatography method was used for the determination of deltamethrin in mosquito-nets. Then, the WHO recommended cone and excito-chamber methods were used to determine the bio-efficacy of mosquito nets. The deltamethrin concentrations in the mosquito-net were after no wash (4590±58.54 ppm), 1× wash (4020±47.39 ppm), 2× wash (3225±45.22 ppm), 3× wash (2771±107.5 ppm), 4× wash (2657±58.59 ppm), 5× wash (1835±47.55 ppm), 10× wash (957±34.85 ppm), 15× wash (197±22.54 ppm) and 20× wash (87±23.75 ppm). The mosquito knockdown effects were reduced by washing of net (no wash to 20× wash) after 60 minutes and 6 hours exposure range from 90-40% and 100-70%. The mosquito mortality rate was reduced by washing of net (no wash to 20× wash) after 24 hours exposure were reduced range from 100-80%. The mosquito repellent action was reduced by washing of net (no wash to 20× wash) after 10 minutes and 24 hours exposure, range from 90-30% and 100-60%. The effective bio-efficacy level was found in 5×wash (1835±47.55 ppm of deltamethrin). Therefore, mosquito net should be impregnated again after the 5× wash to obtain the best protection on the public from mosquito bite

    Get PDF
This paper estimates and forecasts the conditional volatility of Singaporean equity indices namely STI, FSTS_SI, FSTM_SI, and gold quoted in Singaporean dollar (XAUSGD) by using GARCH (1,1), GJR-GARCH (1,1), and EGARCH (1,1) models. The period of the daily return data ranges from 2nd September 1999 to 31st July 2020 (5457 data points) for each equity index and from 4th January 2000 to 31st July 2020 (5369 data points) for XAUSGD. The objectives of this study are to check the presence of the leverage effect in the return series and to investigate which model performs the best for the purpose of estimating and forecasting the conditional volatility. Form the estimation results, it is found that the leverage effect is present in all the equity indices, except for XAUSGD. GJR-GARCH (1,1) performs the best in the conditional volatility estimation for the equity indices, while GARCH (1,1) performs the best for XAUSGD based on the SIC criterion. For best forecasting model selection based on the minimum RMSE value, GARCH (1,1) model provides the best forecast for the equity indices while EGARCH (1,1) performs the best for XAUSGD

This study aimed to find out the average age of diagnosis, and factors associated with the age of diagnosis, among Myanmar children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. A cross-sectional descriptive study involving 84 children from two private special schools, namely New World and Light House. All children who were diagnosed as ASD, according to DSM-IV criteria, were involved in this study. Data was collected from the caregivers by face-to-face interviewing. Physical examinations and investigations were done as necessary. Results: A total of 84 children with ASD were included in this study. The mean age of diagnosis was 3.5 years old. The minimum age of diagnosis was 1 year old and the maximum was 6 years old. There were significant findings regarding factors associated with the age of diagnosis. A higher educational standard of the child’s father, and some autism specific signs such as lack of pointing out objects of interest, and poor response to name being called, were associated with an earlier age of diagnosis of autism spectrum disorders. The presence of persistent preoccupation with parts of objects, the presence of selective eating habits and comorbid conditions like epilepsy and global delay, had been found to delay the age of diagnosis of ASDs. This study revealed information regarding the age of diagnosis among Myanmar children with ASD, and factors associated with the age of diag-nosis. Although this study could not represent the whole population, due to its limitation in sampling size and study area, the findings will contribute to future research being done in different places, including urban, as well as rural areas, with larger populations, which would result in a later age of diagnosis. Identified discrepancies in the age of diagnosis based on certain socio-demographic and clinical variables highlight the need for coordinated strategies for early detection of autism spectrum disorders

    Get PDF
The absorber is a vital part of a solar air collector and has a significant impact on the overall efficiency of a solar air heating unit. The objective of this research is to examine and compare the performance of two distinct aluminium absorbers with and without aluminium fins by using experimental and numerical (computational fluid dynamics – CFD) methods. The studies were conducted in Mandalay, Myanmar, which is located at latitude 21.98° N and longitude 96.1° E, during December 2022. A plate absorber solar air collector (PASAC) and finned absorber solar air collector (FASAC) with the same absorber area of 0.889 m2 are compared in terms of their thermal performance. At a mass flow rate of 0.0389 kg/s, the average thermal efficiency, as computed numerically, is 53.5 % for FASAC, and the experimental results show a thermal efficiency of 54.2 %. Similarly, for PASAC, the numerical computation yields an average thermal efficiency of 44.4 %, while the experimental results indicate a thermal efficiency of 47.3 %. The FASAC outperforms PASAC in terms of thermal performance. The improved thermal performance of the double-pass solar air collectors with aluminium-finned absorbers can be advantageous for employment as a drying process unit

With telehealth services rescuing patients with chronic neurological disorders during the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a need for simplified teleneurology protocols for neurological disorders in children. Infantile spasms is an epileptic encephalopathy where treatment lag is a significant predictor of outcome. It is one such condition where telemedicine can make a remarkable difference when in-person consultations are delayed or are not possible. However, the adverse effect profile of the first-line therapeutic options, the need for frequent follow-up, underdeveloped telemedicine services, lack of a rational protocol, poor awareness about infantile spasms, a lesser level of parental understanding, and scarcity of pediatric neurologists are the major hurdles in developing countries. This paper provides a teleneurology based approach for the management of infantile spasms in developing countries during the COVID-19 pandemic. The cornerstones of this approach include the fundamental principles of management of infantile spasms, decentralization of patient care to local health providers, efforts for improving sensitivity and specificity of diagnosis, early initiation of first-line therapeutic options, and constant motivation of parents and local health providers to be vigilant for therapeutic response, adverse effects of therapy, and infections
