    A multi-label multi-hop relation detection model based on relation-aware sequence generation

    Multi-hop relation detection in Knowledge Base Question Answering (KBQA) aims at retrieving the relation path starting from the topic entity to the answer node based on a given question, where the relation path may comprise multiple relations. Most of the existing methods treat it as a single-label learning problem while ignoring the fact that for some complex questions, there exist multiple correct relation paths in knowledge bases. Therefore, in this paper, multi-hop relation detection is considered as a multi-label learning problem. However, performing multi-label multi-hop relation detection is challenging since the numbers of both the labels and the hops are unknown. To tackle this challenge, multi-label multi-hop relation detection is formulated as a sequence generation task. A relation-aware sequence relation generation model is proposed to solve the problem in an end-to-end manner. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed method for relation detection and KBQA

    A Bayesian end-to-end model with estimated uncertainties for simple question answering over knowledge bases

    Existing methods for question answering over knowledge bases (KBQA) ignore the consideration of the model prediction uncertainties. We argue that estimating such uncertainties is crucial for the reliability and interpretability of KBQA systems. Therefore, we propose a novel end-to-end KBQA model based on Bayesian Neural Network (BNN) to estimate uncertainties arose from both model and data. To our best knowledge, we are the first to consider the uncertainty estimation problem for the KBQA task using BNN. The proposed end-to-end model integrates entity detection and relation prediction into a unified framework, and employs BNN to model entity and relation under the given question semantics, transforming network weights into distributions. Therefore, predictive distributions can be estimated by sampling weights and forward inputs through the network multiple times. Uncertainties can be further quantified by calculating the variances of predictive distributions. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of uncertainties in both the misclassification detection task and cause of error detection task. Furthermore, the proposed model also achieves comparable performance compared to the existing state-of-the-art approaches on SimpleQuestions dataset

    Constructional Meaning and Inheritance in Mandarin Chinese LVCs: The Case of the GIVE Group

    This study focuses on aspectual properties of three light verb constructions in Mandarin Chinese involving the verbs jiyu, yuyi and jiayi, all meaning ‘give’. These verbs combine with an action nominal to form a complex predicate, but unlike jiyu and yuyi, the jiayi-construction is incompatible with any aspectual markers, as evidenced by my investigation into a million-word Mandarin corpus. Assuming that light verbs typically follow the grammaticalisation path from independent verbs to grammatical morphemes, I propose that the three GIVE verbs are at different stages of grammaticalisation. The verb jiayi is the most grammaticalised item. However, jiyu and yuyi have not fully grammaticalised as aspectual morphemes, so aspectuality has to be encoded by means of aspectual markers such as the perfective markers -le and -guo. Taking into account their different aspectual properties, this study gives a constructional presentation on the family of GIVE light verb constructions, which demonstrates both conventional meaning common to all GIVE light verb constructions and idiosyncratic features particular to each light verb construction

    Pricing and revenue sharing strategies for internet service providers

    One of the challenges facing the networking industry today is to increase the profitability of Internet services. This calls for economic mechanisms that can enable providers to charge more for better services and collect a fair share of the increased revenues. In this paper, we present a generic model for pricing Internet services that are jointly offered by a group of providers. We show that non-cooperative pricing strategies between providers may lead to unfair distribution of profit and may even discourage future upgrades to the network. As an alternative, we propose a fair revenue-sharing policy based on the weighted proportional fairness criterion. We show that this fair allocation policy encourages collaboration among providers and hence can produce higher profits for all providers. Based on the analysis, we suggest a scalable algorithm for providers to implement this policy in a distributed way and study its convergence property

    PTHrP Modulates the Proliferation and Osteogenic Differentiation of Craniofacial Fibrous Dysplasia-Derived BMSCs

    Fibrous dysplasia (FD) is a skeletal stem cell disease caused by mutations in the guanine nucleotide-binding protein, alpha-stimulating activity polypeptide (GNAS) gene, which results in the abnormal accumulation of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) and hyperactivation of downstream signaling pathways. Parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP) is secreted by the osteoblast lineage and is involved in various physiological and pathological activities of bone. However, the association between the abnormal expression of PTHrP and FD, as well as its underlying mechanism, remains unclear. In this study, we discovered that FD patient-derived bone marrow stromal cells (FD BMSCs) expressed significantly higher levels of PTHrP during osteogenic differentiation and exhibited greater proliferation capacity but impaired osteogenic ability compared to normal control patient-derived BMSCs (NC BMSCs). Continuous exogenous PTHrP exposure on the NC BMSCs promoted the FD phenotype in both in vitro and in vivo experiments. Through the PTHrP/cAMP/PKA axis, PTHrP could partially influence the proliferation and osteogenesis capacity of FD BMSCs via the overactivation of the Wnt/β-Catenin signaling pathway. Furthermore, PTHrP not only directly modulated cAMP/PKA/CREB transduction but was also demonstrated as a transcriptional target of CREB. This study provides novel insight into the possible pathogenesis involved in the FD phenotype and enhances the understanding of its molecular signaling pathways, offering theoretical evidence for the feasibility of potential therapeutic targets for FD
