    Manipulation of graphitic microparticles in solution with magnetic and electric fields

    Contactless manipulation methods for individual microparticles in solution are essential for the controlled study on the microscopic scale. Microparticles derived from graphitic materials, in particular, are of great interest due to their unique material properties. However to date, the manipulation methods for such particles remain widely unexplored. This thesis presents the rst research on the particle manipulation of graphitic microparticles in a diamagnetic solution with electric and magnetic elds. The results show that the particles can be rotationally trapped on a well-de ned plane with a combination of an alternating current electric eld and a static magnetic eld. Furthermore, particle transport and three-dimensional particle trapping can be achieved with static magnetic elds. This research shows that the unique electrical and magnetic properties of graphitic microparticles can lead to novel particle manipulation methods in solution which can be attractive for applications in many areas of research

    Introduction: This paper is the result of the research “Development of bra pressure measuring system using air pressure sensor” developed in the Ha Noi University of Science and Technology in 2019.  Proplem: The pressure of the bra on the human body affects the comfort of the wearer and the wearer's health. Therefore, bra pressure is one of the most important parameters taken into account when designing and manufacturing bras. Objective: To determine the pressure value of a bra, it is necessary to use a suitable pressure measuring device. Methodology: The device operates on the principle of resitive gas pressure sensor, with 8 measuring channels. The system is controlled by the computer via programming software in the Visual C language, measuring the pressure of the shirt on the position on the curved surface of the human body. Pressure values ​​and timed charts are displayed on the computer. The measuring device was tested with GE Druck DPI 610 pressure generator.  Results: Test results showed that the device has a sensitivity of 0.01 kPa, measuring range from 0.1to 10 kPa and an accuracy of 0.01 kPa. Conclusion: This measurement system is important for objectively assessing the pressure of the bra on the wearer.  Originality: This paper presents the results of research and design of the PB228 system when measuring the pressure of the bra on the wearer's body in static, dynamic and static-dynamic combined states.  Limitations: The accuracy of the device only applies in standard condition

    Factors Affecting Consumers’ Impulsive Purchasing Behavior in Circle K Convenience Stores in Hanoi, Vietnam

    Impulsive purchasing behavior has been observed as one of the important studies conducted by marketers and researchers, as impulse buying has become a prevalent phenomenon in every retail format. The study was conducted to assess factors affecting consumers’ impulsive purchasing behavior in Circle K convenience stores in Hanoi, Vietnam. After reviewing a group of previous studies, the authors indicated 05 factors that affected consumers' impulsive purchasing behavior including impulsiveness, instant gratification, visual appeal, promotions and money availability. The study had selected 05 experts in the field of economics to conduct the expert interview. Moreover, the research team had also handed out the questionnaire and received 310 observations. Specifically, Impulsiveness had the strongest influence on the impulsive purchasing behavior of Circle K’s consumers in Hanoi.     A Large-Scale Study of a Sleep Tracking and Improving Device with Closed-loop and Personalized Real-time Acoustic Stimulation

    Various intervention therapies ranging from pharmaceutical to hi-tech tailored solutions have been available to treat difficulty in falling asleep commonly caused by insomnia in modern life. However, current techniques largely remain ill-suited, ineffective, and unreliable due to their lack of precise real-time sleep tracking, in-time feedback on the therapies, an ability to keep people asleep during the night, and a large-scale effectiveness evaluation. Here, we introduce a novel sleep aid system, called Earable, that can continuously sense multiple head-based physiological signals and simultaneously enable closed-loop auditory stimulation to entrain brain activities in time for effective sleep promotion. We develop the system in a lightweight, comfortable, and user-friendly headband with a comprehensive set of algorithms and dedicated own-designed audio stimuli. We conducted multiple protocols from 883 sleep studies on 377 subjects (241 women, 119 men) wearing either a gold-standard device (PSG), Earable, or both concurrently. We demonstrate that our system achieves (1) a strong correlation (0.89 +/- 0.03) between the physiological signals acquired by Earable and those from the gold-standard PSG, (2) an 87.8 +/- 5.3% agreement on sleep scoring using our automatic real-time sleep staging algorithm with the consensus scored by three sleep technicians, and (3) a successful non-pharmacological stimulation alternative to effectively shorten the duration of sleep falling by 24.1 +/- 0.1 minutes. These results show that the efficacy of Earable exceeds existing techniques in intentions to promote fast falling asleep, track sleep state accurately, and achieve high social acceptance for real-time closed-loop personalized neuromodulation-based home sleep care.Comment: 33 pages, 8 figure

    Stimulation of shoot regeneration through leaf thin cell layer culture of Passiflora edulis Sims.

    Passiflora edulis Sims. belonged to the genus Passiflora, is one of the important economic crops of the world as well as Vietnam. Nowadays, the commercial P. edulis is mainly propagated by seeds, cuttings and grafting; however, these methods still have some limitations such as genetic degradation and heterogeneity and the spread of pathogenic viruses. Micro-propagation has been used for clonal breeding and disease-free plant breeding, as well as providing a source of materials for Passiflora breeding. In this study, leaf explants of P. edulis Sims. (2.0-month-old) excised from the in vitro culture of ex vitro axillary buds cut longitudinally and transversally into thin cell layers (lTCL and tTCL) were used as plant materials to evaluate the shoot regeneration. In addition, the effects of explant age and lighting condition on shoot regeneration were also investigated. After 8 weeks of culture, the results showed that shoot regeneration rate (100%) and shoot multiplication coefficient (13.33) of the in vitro leaf-tTCL-4 were higher than those of other treatments and control. The shoot regeneration rate of P. edulis Sims. also varied with the change of explant age. The highest shoot regeneration rate (100%) was obtained from leaf explants of 1.5-month-old shoots after 8 weeks of culture. Moreover, the light (fluorescent lamps with photoperiod of 16 hours/day and lighting intensity of 40 - 45 μmol.m-2.s-1) improved not only morphogenesis rate, but also shoot regeneration rate (100%) of leaf explants after 8 weeks of culture.     Chemical profile and antibacterial activity of acetone extract of Homalomena cochinchinensis Engl. (Araceae)

    Homalomena cochinchinensis Engl. is a rare species which is found in Southern China, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam and its chemical constituents and bioactivity have not been determined yet. In this study, we identified 32 and 38 compounds in acetone extracts of H. cochinchinensis aerial part and rhizome, respectively via gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC/MS). The main constituents of acetone extract of the aerial part were 3-((4Z,7Z)-Heptadeca-4,7-dien-1-yl)phenol (18.73%); cis-9,cis-12-Octadecadienoic acid (12.04%); linolenic acid (11.08%); n-Hexadecanoic acid (10.13%); (Z)-3-(Heptadec-10-en-1-yl)phenol (7.09%); ?-Sitosterol (5.58%) and linalool (5.56%). On the other hand, acetone extract of rhizome contained linalool (28.42%); 1,2,3-Propanetriol, 1-acetate (10.13%); 3-((4Z,7Z)-Heptadeca-4,7-dien-1-yl)phenol (5.28%); 3-Buten-2-one, 3-methyl-4-(1,3,3-trimethyl-7-oxabicyclo[4.1.0]heptan-1-yl)- (5.28%) and 4-(2,6,6-Trimethyl-cyclohex-1-enyl)-butyric acid (4.54%). Furthermore, this study has also proved the antibacterial activity of acetone extracts from the aerial part and the rhizome of this species for the first time using disk diffusion method. The results showed that the extract of the aerial part could inhibit the growth of 5 out of a total 6 bacterial strains, including Bacillus cereus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella enteritidis and Staphylococcus aureus; while the susceptible strains to the rhizome extract were 5 strains, such as B. cereus, E. coli, P. aeruginosa, Salmonella typhimurium and S. aureus. The findings suggest the further application of this species in pharmacology and medicine

    Screening of endophytes from rubber trees (hevea brasiliensis) for biological control of Corticium salmonicolor

    28 leaves and living-tissue samples of rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis) were collected from Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Phuoc province and Binh Duong province (Viet Nam). We isolated and screened endophytes that have potential application as agents for biocontrol of Corticium salmonicolor, the agent of Pink Disease in rubber trees. As a result, 21 strains of endophytic bacteria and 14 strains of endophytic fungi were isolated. Antagonistic activity of the endophytes towards C. salmonicolor was checked by using a dual culture. Testing results showed that: T9, T15 and T16 strains have inhibited C. salmonicolor. T9 and T16 strains showed result that 100% of inhibiting C. salmonicolor at the concentration of 1:1. In the test of ability to kill C. salmonicolor, T9 and T16 strains showed that they could kill C. salmonicolor after 3 sprays of bacterial filtrate. T9 and T6 strains, which were identified by biochemical methods, have similar characteristics to Bacillus thuringiensis

    Studies on antimicrobial activities of endophytic bacteria isolated from Neem tree (Azadirachta indica)

    The objective of this study is to isolate endophytic bacteria from Azadirachta indica (neem). We isolated 7 strains of endogenous bacteria from the neem tree. By investing the anti-fungal and antibacterial activities of endophytic bacteria in A. indica by well diffusion agar method, we noticed there was KT2 strain which resisted to Salmonella typhi and Staphylococcus aureus (10.67 ± 0.33 mm and 9.67 ± 0.33 mm), KT3 strain showed the inhibitory activity to three human pathogenic fungal (Candida albicans, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Trichophyton rubrum), two strains (KT1, KT2) which resisted to C. albicans and T. rubrum. According to Cowan and Steel's manual, the result of biochemical identification showed that the KT2 strain was the Bacillus subtilis species
