Experimental Characterization of a UWB Channel for Body Area Networks
Ultrawideband (UWB) communication is a promising technology for wireless body area networks (BANs), especially for applications that require transmission of both low and high data rates with excellent energy efficiency. Therefore, understanding the unique UWB channel propagation characteristics around the human body is critical for a successful wireless system, especially for insuring the reliability of important vital sign data. Previous work has focused only on on-body channels, where both TX and RX antennas are located on the human body. In this paper, a 3–5 GHz UWB channel is measured and analyzed for human body wireless communications. Beyond the conventional on-body channel model, line-of-sight (LOS) and non-line-of-sight (NLOS) channel models are obtained using a TX antenna placed at various locations of the human body while the RX antenna is placed away from the human body. Measurement results indicate that the human body does not significantly degrade the impedance of a monopole omnidirectional antenna. The measured path loss and multipath analysis suggest that a LOS UWB channel is excellent for low-power, high-data-rate transmission, while NLOS and on-body channels need to be reconfigured to operate at a lower data rate due to high path loss. Keywords: UWB channels, Body area networks, Ultrawideband channelsKeywords: UWB channels, Body area networks, Ultrawideband channel
Low-Power Redundant-Transition-Free TSPC Dual-Edge-Triggering Flip-Flop Using Single-Transistor-Clocked Buffer
In the modern graphics processing unit (GPU)/artificial intelligence (AI) era, flip-flop (FF) has become one of the most power-hungry blocks in processors. To address this issue, a novel single-phase-clock dual-edge-triggering (DET) FF using a single-transistor-clocked (STC) buffer (STCB) is proposed. The STCB uses a single-clocked transistor in the data sampling path, which completely removes clock redundant transitions (RTs) and internal RTs that exist in other DET designs. Verified by post-layout simulations in 22 nm fully depleted silicon on insulator (FD-SOI) CMOS, when operating at 10% switching activity, the proposed STC-DET outperforms prior state-of-the-art low-power DET in power consumption by 14% and 9.5%, at 0.4 and 0.8 V, respectively. It also achieves the lowest power-delay-product (PDP) among the DETs
A note on the sign (unit root) ambiguities of Gauss sums in index 2 and 4 cases
Recently, the explicit evaluation of Gauss sums in the index 2 and 4 cases
have been given in several papers (see [2,3,7,8]). In the course of evaluation,
the sigh (or unit root) ambiguities are unavoidably occurred. This paper
presents another method, different from [7] and [8], to determine the sigh
(unit root) ambiguities of Gauss sums in the index 2 case, as well as the ones
with odd order in the non-cyclic index 4 case. And we note that the method in
this paper are more succinct and effective than [8] and [7]
Complete Solving for Explicit Evaluation of Gauss Sums in the Index 2 Case
Let be a prime number, for some positive integer , be a
positive integer such that , and let \k be a primitive
multiplicative character of order over finite field \fq. This paper
studies the problem of explicit evaluation of Gauss sums in "\textsl{index 2
case}" (i.e. f=\f{\p(N)}{2}=[\zn:\pp], where \p(\cd) is Euler function).
Firstly, the classification of the Gauss sums in index 2 case is presented.
Then, the explicit evaluation of Gauss sums G(\k^\la) (1\laN-1) in index 2
case with order being general even integer (i.e. N=2^{r}\cd N_0 where
are positive integers and is odd.) is obtained. Thus, the
problem of explicit evaluation of Gauss sums in index 2 case is completely
solved
The clinical characteristics of Chinese elderly patients with different durations of type 2 diabetes mellitus
AimsTo explore the clinical characteristics among elderly (aged ≥60 years) patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) of different durations.MethodsClinical characteristics were investigated in 3840 elderly T2DM patients according to their different durations of diabetes (< 1 year, 1~5 years, 5~10 years, and ≥ 10 years). Kruskal-Wallis and Dunn tests were used to assess the differences among groups for continuous variables. The chi-square and post hoc tests were carried out for dichotomous variables. The logistic regression was adopted to investigate the relationships between various durations of diabetes and the control rates of achieving the control targets for T2DM as well as diabetic vascular complications.ResultsThere were 972, 896, 875 and 1097 patients with a duration of diabetes of <1, 1~5, 5~10 and ≥10 years, respectively. In logistic regression models adjusted for age, sex, education, BMI, smoking and family history of diabetes, elderly T2DM patients with a duration of diabetes of ≥10 years were more likely to reach the comprehensive control targets for TC (ORTC = 1.36, 95% CI =1.14-1.63), LDL-C (ORLDL-C = 1.39, 95% CI =1.17-1.66), TG (ORTG = 1.76, 95% CI =1.46-2.12) and BMI (ORBMI = 1.82, 95% CI =1.52-2.18). Elderly T2DM patients with a duration of diabetes of 1~5 years were more likely to achieve the HbA1c control target (ORHbA1c = 1.92, 95% CI = 1.59-2.31) than elderly T2DM patients with a duration of diabetes of <1 year. Furthermore, in elderly T2DM patients with a duration of diabetes of 5~10 years or ≥ 10 years, the duration of diabetes was positively associated with diabetic macrovascular complications (coronary heart disease and peripheral artery disease). In elderly T2DM patients with a duration of diabetes of over 10 years, the duration of diabetes was associated with diabetes kidney disease (all P < 0.05).ConclusionsIt is worth noting that the clinical characteristics of elderly patients with type 2 diabetes in different durations of diabetes are different
Converting Layered Zinc Acetate Nanobelts to One-dimensional Structured ZnO Nanoparticle Aggregates and their Photocatalytic Activity
We were successful in synthesizing periodic layered zinc acetate nanobelts through a hydrothermal solution process. One-dimensional structured ZnO nanoparticle aggregate was obtained by simple thermal annealing of the above-mentioned layered ZnO acetate nanobelts at 300 °C. The morphology, microstructure, and composition of the synthesized ZnO and its precursors were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and infrared spectroscopy, respectively. Low angle X-ray diffraction spectra reveal that as-synthesized zinc acetate has a layered structure with two interlayer d-spacings (one is 1.32 nm and the other is 1.91 nm). SEM and TEM indicate that nanobelt precursors were 100–200 nm in width and possesses length up to 30 μm. Calcination of precursor in air results in the formation of one-dimensional structured ZnO nanoparticle aggregates. In addition, the as-prepared ZnO nanoparticle aggregates exhibit high photocatalytic activity for the photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange (MO)
