Dairy Product Manufacturing Costs at Cooperative Plants

    Get PDF
Cost data are summarized for 14 plants manufacturing cheese, butter, and powder and average costs are presented for each product. Average cost curves are estimated for each plant. The scale of plant for least-cost operations is identified for plants of each product type. Plant capacity utilization and seasonal volume variation and their impacts on manufacturing cost are delineated.Cooperatives, dairy, average cost curve, productivity, capacity utilization, seasonal variation, economies of scale, Agribusiness,

Electronic charge reconstruction of doped Mott insulators in multilayered nanostructures

Dynamical mean-field theory is employed to calculate the electronic charge reconstruction of multilayered inhomogeneous devices composed of semi-infinite metallic lead layers sandwiching barrier planes of a strongly correlated material (that can be tuned through the metal-insulator Mott transition). The main focus is on barriers that are doped Mott insulators, and how the electronic charge reconstruction can create well-defined Mott insulating regions in a device whose thickness is governed by intrinsic materials properties, and hence may be able to be reproducibly made.Comment: 9 pages, 8 figure

In contrast to random convolution, the coefficients of the underlying filter are given by the discrete Fourier transform of a deterministic sequence with good autocorrelation. Both uniform recovery and non-uniform recovery of sparse signals are investigated, based on the coherence parameter of the proposed sensing matrices. Many examples of the sequences are investigated, particularly the Frank-Zadoff-Chu (FZC) sequence, the m-sequence and the Golay sequence. A salient feature of the proposed sensing matrices is that they can not only handle sparse signals in the time domain, but also those in the frequency and/or or discrete-cosine transform (DCT) domain

In this letter, we prove that a filter bank with set of decimators {2,4,4} achieves perfect reconstruction if and only if it can be represented via a tree structure and each branch of the tree structure achieves perfect reconstruction

A stabilized radial basis-finite difference (RBF-FD) method with hybrid kernels

Recent developments have made it possible to overcome grid-based limitations of finite difference (FD) methods by adopting the kernel-based meshless framework using radial basis functions (RBFs). Such an approach provides a meshless implementation and is referred to as the radial basis-generated finite difference (RBF-FD) method. In this paper, we propose a stabilized RBF-FD approach with a hybrid kernel, generated through a hybridization of the Gaussian and cubic RBF. This hybrid kernel was found to improve the condition of the system matrix, consequently, the linear system can be solved with direct solvers which leads to a significant reduction in the computational cost as compared to standard RBF-FD methods coupled with present stable algorithms. Unlike other RBF-FD approaches, the eigenvalue spectra of differentiation matrices were found to be stable irrespective of irregularity, and the size of the stencils. As an application, we solve the frequency-domain acoustic wave equation in a 2D half-space. In order to suppress spurious reflections from truncated computational boundaries, absorbing boundary conditions have been effectively implemented.Comment: 22 pages, 14 figures, Accepted for Computer and Mathematics with Application

A Reserve-Balancing Pool for Services by Dairy Cooperatives

    Get PDF
The rationale for compensating dairy cooperatives for the costs incurred in balancing milk supply for the fluid market is examined. A reserve-balancing pool is proposed to facilitate deducting supply-balancing service credit from a marketwide producer pool and making payment to cooperatives for providing the services. The volume of necessary reserves maintained for the fluid market determines the size of the reserve-balancing pool. A dairy cooperative qualifies for pool payment based on the volume of milk delivered for fluid uses and on the volume of necessary reserves actually balanced. An alternative qualification is to allocate the volume of necessary reserves each cooperative has to balance according to a cooperative's market share of milk for fluid and other uses.Cooperative, milk, reserve-balancing pool, seasonality, manufacturing costs, marketwide services, Agribusiness,

A Survey of Recent Theoretical Results for Time Series Models with GARCH Errors,

    Get PDF
This paper provides a review of some recent theoretical results for time series models with GARCH errors, and is directed towards practitioners. Starting with the simple ARCH model and proceeding to the GARCH model, some results for stationary and nonstationary ARMA-GARCH are summarized. Various new ARCH-type models, including double threshold ARCH and GARCH, ARFIMA-GARCH, CHARMA and vector ARMA-GARCH, are also reviewed.
