A Shared Information-Based Petri Net Model for Service Parts Planning

    Get PDF
A considerable amount of electronic products are returned after sales, especially in such an economic downturn situation. After repair and refurbishment, the used products can be returned into the markets which fulfill the forward supply chains into a close loop. In this paper, we consider the service parts planning in the beginning of product rolling plan together with the sales through quantities to minimize the inventory level in the period of product lifecycle. A Petri Net is used to model a simple closed-loop supply chain with shared sales information. PUSH and PULL inventory policies are used in this research. Finally, it is investigated how a third party service provider uses this mechanism to improve the accuracy of inventory planning

PREFERENCE TEST OF THE WEIGHTED SHOES

The purpose of this study was to use paired comparison approach to test the weighted shoe preference of the subjects. Forty subjects were recruited to put on five different weighted shoes and choose the preferred one after completing four paired comparisons. During the test, subjects were blind of any information from the shoes. The results showed that thirty-two (80%) out of the forty subjects preferred Shoe D or E, which centre of mass was close to the rear end of the shoe. Significant difference was found in shoe preference between the males and females (?24=10.500, p=.033), while was not found between the lighters and heaviers (?24=5.583, p=.233). The mechanism of the gender effect on the preference decision are unclear. The results of the weighted shoe preference test could be applied to athlete training or rehabilitation shoe design to be comfortable for the users

S ā€coda and Rayleigh waves from a decade of repeating earthquakes reveal discordant temporal velocity changes since the 2004 Sumatra Earthquake

Temporal changes in the subsurface seismic velocity structure reflect the physical processes that modulate the properties of the media through which seismic waves propagate. These processes, such as healing of the surface damage zone and deep crustal deformation, are described by similar functional forms and operate on similar timescales, making it difficult to determine which process drives the observed changes. We examine earthquakeā€induced velocity changes using the measured lagā€time time series Ļ„ (t ) of the repeating earthquake sequences since the 2004 M w 9.2 Sumatra and 2005 M w 8.6 Nias earthquakes. The S coda velocity changes (Ī“V S, equivalent to āˆ’Ļ„ S) recover steadily during the 2005ā€“2015 period. The Rayleigh wave velocity changes (Ī“V LR, or āˆ’Ļ„ LR) undergo transient recovery, followed by a strong Ī“V LR reduction in late 2007. Ī“V S recovery is most likely driven by deep processes, whereas the temporal breaks in Ī“V LR recovery in 2007 mostly reflect surface damage and healing induced by the strong ground motions of the 2004 M w 9.2, 2005 M w 8.6, 2007 M w 8.4, and M w 7.9 Bengkulu and 2008 M w 7.3 Simeulue earthquakes. The observed differences between the temporal variations in Ī“V S and Ī“V LR can distinguish deep processes from healing of the surface damage zone

Effects of Occupational Noise Exposure on 24-Hour Ambulatory Vascular Properties in Male Workers

BACKGROUND: Epidemiologic studies have demonstrated that occupational noise exposure is associated with hypertension, but the related mechanism in vascular structural changes is unclear. OBJECTIVE: This panel study aimed to investigate effects of occupational noise exposure on ambulatory vascular structural properties in male workers. METHODS: We recruited 20 volunteers and divided them into a high-noise- exposure group of 15 and a low-noise-exposure group of 5 based on environmental noise measurement in an automobile manufacturing company. We determined individual noise exposure and measured personal ambulatory vascular property parameters simultaneously during 24 hr. Linear mixed-effects regression models were used to estimate transient and sustained effects of noise exposure on vascular parameters by adjusting some confounders collected from self- administrated questionnaires and health checkups. RESULTS: The high-noise- exposed (85 Ā± 8 dBA) workers had significantly higher systemic vascular resistance (SVR) than the low-noise-exposed workers (59 Ā± 4 dBA) during work and sleep periods. Contrarily, low-noise-exposed workers had significantly higher brachial artery compliance (BAC), brachial artery distensibility (BAD), and systemic vascular compliance (SVC; marginal, p = 0.07) than high-noise-exposed workers during off-duty periods. We also found that high- noise-exposed workers had significantly lower BAC (1.38 Ā± 0 .55 %mL/mmHg) and BAD (1.29 Ā± 0.51 %/mmHg), as well as lower SVC (0. 24 Ā± 0.10 mL/L/mmHg), but higher SVR (1.93 Ā±0.67 mL/L/min) compared with low-noise-exposed workers over a 24-hr period. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that in automobile workers, occupational noise exposure may have sustained, not transient, effects on vascular properties and also enhances the development of hypertension. What do they eat? A survey of eat-out habit of university students in Taiwan

[EN] Main purpose of this research is trying to understand food likeliness of Taiwan college students, and probe whether these food are healthy. Three survey steps are taken as: step 1, market survey for what kind of foods are selling around the campuses; step 2, questionnaire investigation for students food preference; step 3, analyzing whether these favorite foods are healthy or not. The result shows: major consideration for students food selection are ā€œtasteā€ and ā€œpriceā€; 63% of students are taking food or snacks late at night at least once a week. Top three most favorite foods are: Taiwanese fries (yan su ji), carbon grilled chicken and fried fish steaks. Quantities of these foods are small, prices are low, and easy access from roadside food stands. Problems of them are high calories, easy to accumulate free radical in human body, plus insanitary food processing environment. They are harmful to student health. We suggest Taiwan government take it seriouslyShih, K.; Wang, M.; Shih, H.; Lee, S.; Lin, T. (2020). What do they eat? A survey of eat-out habit of university students in Taiwan. Synchronous Occurrence of Primary Neoplasms in the Uterus with Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Cervix and Adenocarcinoma of the Endometrium

SummaryObjectiveSynchronous primary malignant neoplasms of the uterus are uncommon. Patients with synchronous cervical and endometrial cancers are even rarer. We describe a case of cervical squamous cell carcinoma and endometrial endometrioid adenocarcinoma occurring simultaneously in a 47-year-old woman presenting with massive menstrual bleeding. The concept of synchronous primary malignancies of the genital tract is also reviewed in this report.Case ReportA 47-year-old overtly obese female presented with menometrorrhagia of over 6 months' duration. Pelvic examination detected a large cervix but apparently normal externals. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a mass over the cervical region and endometrial lesions in the uterine cavity. Surgical exploration disclosed a cervical tumor and erosion of the endometrium. The pathologic findings were compatible with synchronous occurrence of primary neoplasms in the uterus with squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix and adenocarcinoma of the endometrium.ConclusionSynchronous genital tract neoplasms are rare but cause more clinical problems than a single neoplasm. It is practical to pay more attention to the differential diagnosis of primary and metastatic tumors. The second primary cancer that occurs in an individual with endometrial cancer may offer an opportunity for early detection. The prognosis for a patient with synchronous gynecologic malignancies does not seem to be worse
