    Synthesis of Titanium Containing SBA-15 and Its Application for Photocatalytic Degradation of Phenol

    We synthesized Ti-containing SBA-15 by one-pot hydrothermal method and extensively investigated its physicochemical properties and examined its photocatalytic activity to degrade phenol. It’s shown that appropriate amount of titanium could be effectively incorporated into the framework of SBA-15 without provoking structure change and the tetrahedrally coordinated titanium species were well-ordered in Ti-incorporated SBA-15. Under UV-irradiation, the Ti-containing SBA-15 exhibits good photocatalytic activity for phenol degradation in the simulated waste water. The higher photocatalytic activity of Ti-containing SBA-15 to degrade phenol was ascribed to the more titanium content and anatase titanium dioxide.     EGFR exon 19-deletion aberrantly regulate ERCC1 expression that may partly impaired DNA damage repair ability in non-small cell lung cancer

    Background Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) activating mutations are usually associated with DNA damage repair (DDR) deficiency. However, the precise mechanism has remained elusive. In this study, we aimed to investigate whether EGFR exon 19 deletion mutation downstream signals contributed to DDR deficiency by downregulation of excision repair cross-complementation group-1 (ERCC1), a key factor in DDR, expression and function. Methods We first measured cell survival, DNA damage (gamma-H2AX foci formation) and damage repair (ERCC1 and RAD51 foci formation) ability in response to DNA cross-linking drug in EGFR exon 19 deletion and EGFR wild-type cells separately. We then investigated the involvement of EGFR downstream signals in regulating ERCC1 expression and function in EGFR exon 19 deletion cells as compared with EGFR wild-type ones. Results We observed increased gamma-H2AX, but impaired ERCC1 and RAD51 nuclear foci formation in EGFR exon 19 deletion cells as compared with EGFR wild-type ones treated with DNA cross-linker. In addition, we identified that inhibition of EGFR exon 19 deletion signals increased ERCC1 expression, whereas blocked wild-type EGFR signals decreased ERCC1 expression, on both mRNA and protein levels. Furthermore, EGFR exon 19 deletion downstream signals not only inhibited ERCC1 expression but also influenced ERCC1 foci formation in response to DNA cross-linker. Conclusion Our findings indicated that the aberrant EGFR exon 19 deletion signals were not only associated with decreased expression of ERCC1 but were also involved in impaired ERCC1 recruitment in response to DNA cross-link damage, thereby providing us with more evidence for exploring the mechanism of DDR deficiency in EGFR mutant NSCLC.Peer reviewe

    PBRM1 acts as a p53 lysine-acetylation reader to suppress renal tumor growth.

    p53 acetylation is indispensable for its transcriptional activity and tumor suppressive function. However, the identity of reader protein(s) for p53 acetylation remains elusive. PBRM1, the second most highly mutated tumor suppressor gene in kidney cancer, encodes PBRM1. Here, we identify PBRM1 as a reader for p53 acetylation on lysine 382 (K382Ac) through its bromodomain 4 (BD4). Notably, mutations on key residues of BD4 disrupt recognition of p53 K382Ac. The mutation in BD4 also reduces p53 binding to promoters of target genes such as CDKN1A (p21). Consequently, the PBRM1 BD4 mutant fails to fully support p53 transcriptional activity and is defective as a tumor suppressor. We also find that expressions of PBRM1 and p21 correlate with each other in human kidney cancer samples. Our findings uncover a tumor suppressive mechanism of PBRM1 in kidney cancer and provide a mechanistic insight into the crosstalk between p53 and SWI/SNF complexes

    Application of remote online learning in oral histopathology teaching in China

    The aim of this study was to investigate the application of remote learning and virtual microscopy in oral histopathology teaching, a unique experience in China. The oral histopathology teaching in Nanjing Medical University has been extraordinary. 98 third-year dental students of Grade 2016 took oral histopathology theoretical course face-to-face in 2019 (Traditional group). The 94 participants of Grade 2017 took online oral histopathology course using digital methods(E-Learning platform and Virtual Simulation Experiment Teaching Center for Dentistry) in 2020. During the practical laboratory sessions, the students in both Traditional group and Online group observed the same glass slides for morphological learning. A questionnaire survey explored students' attitudes towards the remote online learning. Results: The mean Theory test scores of the Online group (80.93±12.15) were significantly higher than those of the Traditional group (73.65±8.46) (P 85) of the Online group (54%) was also significantly higher than that of the Traditional group (15%) (P< 0.01). Furthermore, both remote learning and virtual microscopy courses were well accepted by students according to the questionnaire. This study found that remote learning and virtual technology have a positive impact on oral histopathology. The findings reveal that the application of remote online learning has enhanced oral histopathology teaching in China
