    Speaking is one of the basic skills in mastering languages. The expectation is speaking can be taught to students to make them capable in communicating by using English correctly. Based on the observation students in Asahan University especially English Education Study Program got difficulties in speaking English especially in describe someone or something. it can be solved by using paired story telling technique to increase students’ speaking ability at first semester students English Study Program. The research was categorized into a classroom action research (CAR). In class room action research consist of four main steps, namely: planning, action, observation, and reflection. In this research there were two cycles that was processed. In getting the data, this research gave a speaking test to the students to increase their ability in speaking. The speaking test was given by using paired story telling technique. The result of the research in implementation of paired storytelling technique in class speaking was increase on students’ score. In the first cycle the students’ mean score 62,71 to 79,28  in the second cycle, with percentage passing classically from  31,42 % or 11 students to 31 students or 88,57 % on the second cycle.     AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN WRITING PROCEDURE TEXT AT GRADE X OF SMK 10 MUHAMMDIYAH KISARAN

    Abstract: This research purposed to know the students’ ability in writing procedure text. The location of this research was in SMK 10 Muhammadiyah Kisaran.The time that was spend in this research was one month. This research was applied by qualitative content analysis. The subject of the research was the students at grade X TKJ-1 of SMK 10 Muhammadiyah Kisaran. Students consist of 32 students. The instruments that used in this research was a test of writing procedure text, interview, and documentation. The test was asking the students to write the procedure text well. Based on the result of the research, the students’ ability in writing procedure text was low. It was proved by their mean score in writing procedure text that only reach 59.0. It can be conluded that there is any significant an analysis of students’ ability of procedure text significantly very low. From this research, there are two instruments in examining their ability including generic structure and language features. It is hoped that by the finding of these trouble, there will be future research on this subject so that there will be some method or strategy that enable to overcome these troubles.  Key words: ability, writing, procedure text

    Siswa sekolah SDN saat ini masih banyak yang belum mengenal literasi dan numerasi pada Bahasa Inggris sehingga mengalami kesulitan dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris ketika duduk dibangku sekolah menengah sederajat kedepannya. Siswa SDN mengalami kesulitan dalam kemampuan literasi dan numerasi dikarenakan tidak adanya mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris di bangku SD yang mana mata pelajaran tersebut hanya sebagai muatan lokal. Di dalam kegiatan pengabdian masyrakat ini mengenalkan kosakata Bahasa Inggris kepada peserta didik dengan mengimplementasikan media flashcard. Media flashcard adalah media yang menyajikan meteri tentang pengenalan angka, warna, hewan, tumbuhan, dan lainnya. Tampailan yang menarik dapat meningkatkan minat peserta didik dalam mengenal kosakata dalam Bahasa Inggris lebih baik lagi. Metode yang digunakan di dalam pengabdian ini dengan metode ceramah, Tanya jawab, audio lingual dan pemberian tugas. Dengan metode tersebut menerapkan media flash card pada kegiatan pengabdian ini mengahsilkan kemampuan literasi dan numerasi peserta didik dalam pengenalan kosakata semakin meningkat

    PRAGMATIC COMPETENCE IN SPEAKING

    The goal of the current study is to examine the pragmatic competence instruction in the speaking for general communication course, to evaluate the students' pragmatic competence growth, and to determine the students' degree of pragmatic competence following exposure to the teacher's teaching methods. A qualitative case study design was used for this investigation. Data were gathered using Discourse Completion Tasks in tests and classroom observation (DCT). The processes taken to evaluate the data gathered through observation include documenting the occurrences, transcribing them, and coding them. According to the results, the two teachers who are teaching pragmatic competence encourage students to communicate orally, introduce equivalent expressions, increase students' awareness of pragmatic competence, identify expressions in context, introduce the politeness continuum, assign students to work in pairs to practice dialogue dealing with speech acts, and facilitate students' search for appropriateness in English communication. Keywords: Pragmatic, Competence, Speakin

    THE EFFECT OF FIX-UP STRATEGY ON THE STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION

    The research is focused on studnts’ reading comprehension in descriptive text at grade X of SMA Swasta Daerah Kisaran in 2021/2022 academic year.The purpose of this research is to find out whether the Fix-up Strategy there is any effect on students' reading comprehension in descriptive text. The research used a total sampling technique in taking the sample, and the sample are students of X IPA and X IPS at SMA Swasta Daerah Kisaran in 2021/2022 Academic Year. In this research, quantitative research is used. The technique of collecting data in this research are pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The instrument of collecting data is a multiple choice test. The results showed that the mean of the pre-test for the control group is 36, 36 and 44, 00 for the experimental group. The mean of the post-test is 49, 09 for the control group and 77, 50 for the experimental group. The Fix-up Strategy is an effective way to improve students' reading comprehension.     This Research aims to investigate The Effect of Word Wall Media  on Students Ability in Simple Present Tense Mastery. This Research was conducted by Experimental Research . The population of this Research was the students at grade X of SMA N 1 Tanjung Tiram . the total number of the population Two hundred fifty two students in seven class . there were 36 students chosen as the sample by using random sampling technique . The sample was divided into two group , namely Control Group and Experiment Group . The Experiment group was taught by using Word Wall Media and control group was taught without using Word Wall Media  . The instrument for collecting the data was Multiple choice [-test . The data was analyze by using t- test formula . It means that the alternative  hypothesis ( Ha ) is accepted and null hypothesis ( Ho ) is rejected . based on the finding of this research , it was found that there is a significant effect of Word Wall Media in Simple Present Tense Mastery at grade x of SMA Negeri 1 Tanjung Tiram.Key word: Simple Present Tense Mastery, Word Wall Media.

    The goal of this research is to determine if the effect of Teams Games Tournament (TGT) Strategy With The Help of Word Wall Application on The Students’ Mastery of Simple Present Tense at X Grade of SMA N 7 Tanjungbalai. This research employed quantitative research with a two-class design, exprimental class and control class. This research's population consisted of all class X students from SMA Negeri 7 Tanjungbalai. Simple random sampling was used to choose two classes for the research sample: 32 students from the experimental class (X IPS 1) and 32 students from the control class (X IPS 2). A multiple choice test was used to collect data. The t-test formula was used to analyze the data. From this analysis, by comparing pre-test and post-test scores, the exprimental class had a lower pre-test mean score (53,4>56,6) and a higher post-test mean score (76,5>72,3) than the mean score in control class. This research found that using Teams Games Tournament (TGT) Strategy With The Help of Word Wall Application has significant effect in simple present tense. It can be proved by the result that tscore (to) = 11,25 was higher than the ttable (tt) = 1,999 with the significant 0,05 or it can be understood as To > Ttable (5% ) = 11,25>1,999. So, Ha is accepted. In another word, using Teams Games Tournament (TGT) Strategy With The Help of Word Wall Application more effective and more significant than using conventional way

    The Effect of Flipped Classroom Model on the Students’ Mastery in Passive Voice at Grade XI of SMA Negeri 1 Sei Balai

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh model flipped classroom terhadap penguasaan passive voice siswa kelas XI SMA NEGERI 1 SEI BALAI tahun ajaran 2021/2022. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuasi eksperimen dengan dua kelompok pre-test dan post-test. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh kelas XI yang terdiri dari 3 kelas. Sampel penelitian terdiri dari 2 kelas (kelas XI-IPA 2 dan XI-IPA 3) yang diambil secara purposive sampling. Pada kelas XI-IPA 2 sebagai kelas eksperimen dengan menggunakan Model Flipped Classroom dan pada kelas XI-IPA 3 sebagai kelas kontrol dengan model pembelajaran konvensional. Setelah pembelajaran selesai, diperoleh post-test dengan hasil rata-rata 75,6 untuk kelas eksperimen dan 66,0 untuk kelas kontrol. Hasil uji-t diperoleh t0 = 5,092 kemudian dikonsultasikan dengan ttabel pada taraf 5% = 2,045 atau 1% = 2,758. Karena itu t0 yang diperoleh t0 = 5,092 dan kemudian dikonsultasikan dengan ttabel pada taraf 5% = 2,045 atau 1% = 2,758. Karena t0 yang didapat lebih besar dari Ttabel yaitu 2,045 < 5,092 > 2,758 maka hipotesis nihil (Ho) ditolak dan hipotesis alternatif (Ha) diterima. Kasus tersebut menjelaskan bahwa penguasaan siswa dalam passive voice simple present tense dengan model flipped classroom dengan menggunakan media audio visual sangat berpengaruh

    AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS’ SIMPLE PAST TENSE ERRORS IN WRITING NARRATIVE TEXT AT GRADE OF X SMA NEGERI 1 SEI BALAI

    This research was about an analysis on the use of simple past tense in English narrative text made by students at Grade X IPA 1 of SMA Negeri 1 Sei balai in the Academic Year of 2019/2020. The objectives of this research were to find out errors of using simple past tense and the dominant error in narrative text written by the X of Grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Sei balai in the 2019/2020 Academic Year. The instrument of the research was documentation of the test. The research method was descriptive. The result of this research showed that there were four three of error that occurred; error of omission, error of misinformation and error of misordering. The most dominant errors students made error of misinformation with a total 101 errors or 72%. It is higher than half of the total of errors made by the students. The Error misinformation is related to the use of the wrong form of the morpheme or the structure.Keywords: Error, Writing, Narrative Text, Simple past tens
