An image enhancement method using nonlinear function

    Get PDF
Image enhancement plays an important role in image processing. This paper proposed an image enhancement method using a nonlinear(exponential) function. Firstly, we use the exponential function to construct the gray transformation equation. Then, depending on the position of each pixel, the gray scale obtained by gray transformation is further adjusted based on the compression factor. In section 3, the comparative experiment shows that the proposed method could achieve good performance

Deterministic Image Enhancement Based on Fuzzy Method

Image enhancement is an essential branch in image processing, and its purpose is to selectively highlight or preserve important features of the source image. Firstly, this work introduces a fuzzy technique with dynamic parameter k to enhance images taken in grayscale images. Secondly, the output image is obtained by modifying and updating the parameters in the algorithm. Finally, the feasibility and effectiveness of the algorithm are verified by specific experiments. In the experiment, we take the structural similarity (SSIM) between the image and the enhanced image as the evaluation criterion and the target variable. For test images and determining structural similarity values (SSIM =0.76, 0.86, 0.96), the corresponding parameter k values are calculated by the fuzzy enhancement algorithm. This result also shows that the output image with a different structural similarity from the original image can be obtained by the enhancement algorithm

Fuzzy image enhancement is an important method in the process of image processing. In this paper, we present two intensifier operators in fuzzy image enhancement process based on algebraic function and cycloid arc length respectively. The first method directly uses the algebraic function as a membership intensifier operator. The second method also using a intensifier operator which established established by the cycloid arc length as the independent variable. In the last section, the test image is experimentally analyzed, and the results show that the method we proposed can improve enhance the contrast of the image

Image Enhancement Method based on an Improved Fuzzy C-Means Clustering

Image enhancement is an important method in the process of image processing. This paper proposes an image enhancement method base on an improved fuzzy c-means clustering. The method consists of the following steps: firstly, proposed a fuzzy c-means clustering with a cooperation center (FCM-co). Secondly, using the FCM-co, divide the image pixels into different clusters and marked membership values to those clusters. Thirdly, modify the membership values. Finally, calculate the new pixel gray levels. This enhancement method can overcome the disadvantage of overexposure and better retain image details. Through the experiment, the test results show that the proposed enhancement method could achieve better performance

An image enhancement method based on a s-sharp function and pixel neighborhood information

    Get PDF
Image enhancement is a significant field in image processing. This paper proposes an enhancement method based on an S-sharp function of grayscale transformation and neighborhood information. Firstly, a function is established based on the sine function. Then, the image threshold is added into the function. Finally, the result grayscales are modified by parameter, where parameter is determined by the image pixel neighborhood information. In general, in the result image, each pixel grayscale is determined by both the sine function with threshold and the parameter. In the experiment results, the NIEM method (we proposed) achieves better performance than the comparison algorithms. It gets the smallest MSE and the highest PSNR, SSIM. In image Lena test, MSE value:330.8151, PSNR value:22.9350, and SSIM value: 0.9451. In image Pout test, MSE value:132.0988, PSNR value:26.9218, and SSIM value: 0.9604

Structure and seasonal variability of fronts in the Southeast Indian Ocean along sections from Fremantle, Australia to Antarctic Zhongshan Station

Four sections of expendable conductivity-temperature-depth (XCTD) profiles from Fremantle, Australia to Antarctic Zhongshan Station and Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer-Aquarius (MODIS-A) sea surface temperature (SST) products were used to study the structure and seasonal variability of Southeast Indian Ocean fronts. Water mass analysis showed that surface water masses in the Southeast Indian Ocean were less salty in March than in November. Compared with November, the subtropical front (STF) moved southward about one degree of latitude in March, whereas seasonal variability of the subantarctic front (SAF) and polar front (PF) locations was not obvious. In March, the saline front moved northward about two degrees of latitude relative to the thermal front in the upper 100 m at the SAF, which was the northern boundary of sub-Antarctic surface water (SASW). Analysis of climatological SST gradients from the satellite data showed that regions of enhanced sea surface temperature (SST) gradients were collocated with frontal locations identified with the XCTD data using water mass criteria. The surface expression of the PF identified by the SST gradient was further south by about one degree of latitude relative to the subsurface expression of the PF identified by the northern boundary of cold water

MicroRNA-1224 Inhibits Tumor Metastasis in Intestinal-Type Gastric Cancer by Directly Targeting FAK

Intestinal-type gastric cancer (GC) of the Lauren classification system has specific epidemiological characteristics and carcinogenesis patterns. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have prognostic significance, and some can be used as prognostic biomarkers in GC. In this study, we identified miR-1224 as a potential survival-related miRNA in intestinal-type GC patients by The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) analysis. Using quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR), we showed that the relative expression of miR-1224 was significantly decreased in intestinal-type GC tissues compared to matched adjacent normal mucosa tissues (p < 0.01). We found that high miR-1224 expression was associated with no lymph-node metastasis (p < 0.05) and good prognosis (p = 0.028) in 90 intestinal-type GC tissues. Transfection of intestinal-type GC cells with miR-1224 mimics showed that miR-1224 suppressed cell migration in vitro (wound healing assay and Transwell migration assay), whereas the transfection of cells with miR-1224 inhibitor promoted cell migration in vitro. miR-1224 also suppressed intestinal-type GC cell metastasis in a xenograft mouse model. Furthermore, bioinformatics, luciferase reporter, Western blotting, and immunohistochemistry (IHC) studies demonstrated that miR-1224 directly bound to the focal adhesion kinase (FAK) gene, and downregulated its expression, which decreased STAT3 and NF-κB signaling and subsequent the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Repression of FAK is required for the miR-1224-mediated inhibition of cell migration in intestinal-type GC. The present study demonstrated that miR-1224 is downregulated in intestinal-type GC. miR-1224 inhibits the metastasis of intestinal-type GC by suppressing FAK-mediated activation of the STAT3 and NF-κB pathways, and subsequent EMT. miR-1224 could represent an important prognostic factor in intestinal-type GC
