    Variable-parameter double-power reaching law sliding mode control method

    To solve the problem of the slow convergence rate of the reaching law and the chattering problems in the dynamic response in the sliding mode control, an improved double-power sliding mode reaching law is proposed. The reaching law is adjusted by changing the magnitude of the power terms adaptively at different stages of the system approach process, and the convergence speed of the dynamic response process is greatly improved. Its existence, accessibility and stability are proven by theory. The simulation results show that the improved double-power reaching law is faster than the double-power reaching law and the fast power reaching law. When there is uncertainty in the system, the system state and its derivatives can rapidly converge to the neighbor-hood of the equilibrium zeros. In the presence of time-varying perturbations of the two-order system, the sliding mode control system based on the improved double-power sliding mode reaching law has higher tracking precision of the given signal and differential signal and effectively reduces the high-frequency chattering phenomenon of the control input signal

    The primacy bias in Model-based RL

    The primacy bias in deep reinforcement learning (DRL), which refers to the agent's tendency to overfit early data and lose the ability to learn from new data, can significantly decrease the performance of DRL algorithms. Previous studies have shown that employing simple techniques, such as resetting the agent's parameters, can substantially alleviate the primacy bias. However, we observe that resetting the agent's parameters harms its performance in the context of model-based reinforcement learning (MBRL). In fact, on further investigation, we find that the primacy bias in MBRL differs from that in model-free RL. In this work, we focus on investigating the primacy bias in MBRL and propose world model resetting, which works in MBRL. We apply our method to two different MBRL algorithms, MBPO and DreamerV2. We validate the effectiveness of our method on multiple continuous control tasks on MuJoCo and DeepMind Control Suite, as well as discrete control tasks on Atari 100k benchmark. The results show that world model resetting can significantly alleviate the primacy bias in model-based setting and improve algorithm's performance. We also give a guide on how to perform world model resetting effectively

    Structure and motion design of a mock circulatory test rig

    Mock circulatory test rig (MCTR) is the essential and indispensable facility in the cardiovascular in vitro studies. The system configuration and the motion profile of the MCTR design directly influence the validity, precision, and accuracy of the experimental data collected. Previous studies gave the schematic but never describe the structure and motion design details of the MCTRs used, which makes comparison of the experimental data reported by different research groups plausible but not fully convincing. This article presents the detailed structure and motion design of a sophisticated MCTR system, and examines the important issues such as the determination of the ventricular motion waveform, modelling of the physiological impedance, etc., in the MCTR designing. The study demonstrates the overall design procedures from the system conception, cardiac model devising, motion planning, to the motor and accessories selection. This can be used as a reference to aid researchers in the design and construction of their own in-house MCTRs for cardiovascular studies

    China’s Internal Borders: Evidence from the Business Cycle Correlations across Chinese Cities

    We measure the correlations between two cities’ real GDP growth rates (a measure of business cycle correlations) to capture the degree of segmentation across China’s provincial and regional borders. This type of segmentation can be caused by local protectionism as well as other economic and geographic factors that affect business cycle correlations between two cities. After controlling these other factors, we are able to pin down the border effect that is due to local protectionism: administrative border effect. We find that the inter-provincial administrative border effect first rose and then gradually declined in the period between 1991 and 2007. Further, its increase coincided with the introduction of the Tax Sharing System reform, which started in 1994. This administrative border effect declined steadily in recent years as the tax reform was fully instituted. Our analysis shows that China’s reform path (under market-preserving federalism) did not create a persistent provincial “administrative border effect” that debilitated market forces.     Expert Consensus on ECG Identification Applied in the Insurance Industry

    Electrocardiograms (ECGs) have the potential to be used as a reliable source of information for human identity recognition due to their universality, portability, and unique and stable biological identification features. This method enriches and refines existing biometric identification techniques, and is suitable for customer identity identification in the insurance industry. This article has the following objectives: 1) to introduce biometric identification techniques commonly used in the insurance industry, including ECG biometric identification techniques, and their advantages; 2) to discuss major aspects of ECG biometric identification techniques; 3) to systematically review the most recent advances in ECG identification and extraction characteristics from research in China and other countries; 4) to outline the technical aspects of using ECGs for recognizing client identity in the insurance industry; and 5) to discuss the future of ECGs in identity recognition. This article is aimed at further promoting the application of living personal ECG identification techniques in the insurance industry, and extending it to areas including medical insurance, banking, justice, public security, military, government, enterprises, and other departments and areas in which identification is needed to promote social stability and national security

    One-Shot High-Fidelity Talking-Head Synthesis with Deformable Neural Radiance Field

    Talking head generation aims to generate faces that maintain the identity information of the source image and imitate the motion of the driving image. Most pioneering methods rely primarily on 2D representations and thus will inevitably suffer from face distortion when large head rotations are encountered. Recent works instead employ explicit 3D structural representations or implicit neural rendering to improve performance under large pose changes. Nevertheless, the fidelity of identity and expression is not so desirable, especially for novel-view synthesis. In this paper, we propose HiDe-NeRF, which achieves high-fidelity and free-view talking-head synthesis. Drawing on the recently proposed Deformable Neural Radiance Fields, HiDe-NeRF represents the 3D dynamic scene into a canonical appearance field and an implicit deformation field, where the former comprises the canonical source face and the latter models the driving pose and expression. In particular, we improve fidelity from two aspects: (i) to enhance identity expressiveness, we design a generalized appearance module that leverages multi-scale volume features to preserve face shape and details; (ii) to improve expression preciseness, we propose a lightweight deformation module that explicitly decouples the pose and expression to enable precise expression modeling.     20-Hydroxyecdysone (20E) Primary Response Gene \u3cem\u3eE75\u3c/em\u3e Isoforms Mediate Steroidogenesis Autoregulation and Regulate Developmental Timing in \u3cem\u3eBombyx\u3c/em\u3e

    The temporal control mechanisms that precisely control animal development remain largely elusive. The timing of major developmental transitions in insects, including molting and metamorphosis, is coordinated by the steroid hormone 20-hydroxyecdysone (20E). 20E involves feedback loops to maintain pulses of ecdysteroid biosynthesis leading to its upsurge, whereas the underpinning molecular mechanisms are not well understood. Using the silkworm Bombyx mori as a model, we demonstrated that E75, the 20E primary response gene, mediates a regulatory loop between ecdysteroid biosynthesis and 20E signaling. E75 isoforms A and C directly bind to retinoic acid receptor-related response elements in Halloween gene promoter regions to induce gene expression thus promoting ecdysteroid biosynthesis and developmental transition, whereas isoform B antagonizes the transcriptional activity of isoform A/C through physical interaction. As the expression of E75 isoforms is differentially induced by 20E, the E75-mediated regulatory loop represents a fine autoregulation of steroidogenesis, which contributes to the precise control of developmental timing

    Rheumatoid diseases are a group of systemic autoimmune diseases which affect multiple organs with largely unknown etiology. In the past decade, long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have emerged as important regulators of biological processes and contribute deeply to immune cell development and immune responses. Substantial evidences have been accumulated showing that LncRNAs involved in the pathogenesis of the rheumatoid diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis (RA), systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and Sjögren's syndrome (SS). In this review, we summarize literature combined with bioinformatics methods to analyze the unique and common lncRNAs patterns in rheumatoid diseases and try to reveal the important function of lncRNAs in RA, SLE and SS
