Assessing the influence of the Merzbacher Lake outburst floods on discharge using the hydrological model SWIM in the Aksu headwaters, Kyrgyzstan/NW China
Glacial lake outburst floods (GLOF) often have a significant impact on downstream users. Including their effects in hydrological models, identifying past occurrences and assessing their potential impacts are challenges for hydrologists working in mountainous catchments. The regularly outbursting Merzbacher Lake is located in the headwaters of the Aksu River, the most important source of water discharge to the Tarim River, northwest China. Modelling its water resources and the evaluation of potential climate change impacts on river discharge are indispensable for projecting future water availability for the intensively cultivated river oases downstream of the Merzbacher Lake and along the Tarim River. The semi-distributed hydrological model SWIM was calibrated to the outlet station Xiehela on the Kumarik River, by discharge the largest tributary to the Aksu River. The glacial lake outburst floods add to the difficulties of modelling this high-mountain, heavily glaciated catchment with poor data coverage and quality. The aims of the study are to investigate the glacier lake outburst floods using a modelling tool. Results include a two-step model calibration of the Kumarik catchment, an approach for the identification of the outburst floods using the measured gauge data and the modelling results and estimations of the outburst flood volumes. Results show that a catchment model can inform GLOF investigations by providing 'normal' (i.e. without the outburst floods) catchment discharge. The comparison of the simulated and observed discharge proves the occurrence of GLOFs and highlights the influences of the GLOFs on the downstream water balance
Development of digastric muscles in human foetuses: a review and findings in the flexor digitorum superficialis muscle
The digastricus and omohyoideus muscles are digastric muscles with two muscle bellies. An insertion tendon of the posterior belly becomes an intermediate tendon in digastricus muscles, whereas a single band-like muscle in omohyoideus muscles may later be interrupted by an intermediate tendon, possibly due to muscle cell death caused by mechanical stress. In human foetuses, an intermediate tendon provides the temporal origins of the tensor veli palatini and tensor tympani muscles. Some reptiles, including snakes, carry multiple series of digastric-like axial muscles, in which each intersegmental septum is likely to become an intermediate tendon. These findings indicate that many pathways are involved in the development of digastric muscles. A review of these morphologies suggested that the flexor digiÂtorum superficialis (FDS) muscle was a digastric muscle, although the intermediate tendon may not be visible in the surface view in adults. The present observations support the hypothesis that the proximal anlage at the elbow develops into a deep muscle slip to a limited finger, while the distal anlage at the wrist develops into the other slips. The findings suggest that, in the FDS muscle, the proximal and distal bellies of the embryonic digastric muscle fuse together to form a laminar structure, in which muscle slips accumulate from the palmar to the deep side of the forearm. Phenolic Compound Profiles in Grape Skins of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Marselan Cultivated in the Shacheng Area (China)
The phenolic compounds in the grape skins of Cabernet Sauvignon (CS), Merlot (ML), Syrah (SY) and Marselan (MS) from Shacheng, in China, were compared using HPLC-MS/MS. The results showed that the types and levels of phenolic compounds varied greatly with cultivars. Malvidin derivatives were the main anthocyanins. CS and ML showed a higher content of malvidin-3-O-(6-O-acetyl)-glucoside than malvidin-3-O-(trans-6-O- coumaryl)-glucoside, while SY and MS differed from CS and ML. ML had higher delphinidin and cyanidin derivatives, SY had higher peonidin derivatives, while malvidin and petunidin were higher in MS. The total content of flavonols, flavan-3-ols, phenolic acids and stilbenes in grape skins showed no difference among CS, ML and MS. Isorhamnetin-3-O-glucoside (CS, ML, MY), quercetin-3O-glucoside (SY), procyanidin trimer (SY, MS), procyanidin dimer (CS, ML), syringetin-3-O-glucoside, trans-cinnamic acid and resveratrol were the most abundant non-anthocyanin phenolic compounds. Cluster analysis showed that CS and ML, and SY and MS had similar phenolic profiles

Exogenous application of plant growth regulators induce chilling tolerance in direct seeded super and non-super rice seedlings through modulations in morpho-physiological attributes
Recently, super rice has gained much importance due to its high yield potential while exogenous application of plant growth regulators (PGRs) is an important aspect in plant development and defense responses under stress conditions. In this study we conducted two pot experiments. Firstly, four super rice cultivars, viz. Peizataifeng, Huayou 213, Yuxiangyouzhan and Huahang 31 were subjected to a series of five chilling temperatures, i.e. 11 °C, 12 °C, 13 °C, 14 °C and 15 °C (day/night) for about 25–27 days. Secondly, seeds of Peizataifeng (super rice) and Yuejingsimiao 2 (non-super rice) were then treated with different combinations of salicylic acid (SA), brassinolide (BR), calcium chloride (CaCl2) and fulvic acid (FA) and then exposed to chilling stress at 13 °C for four days. Resultantly, Peizataifen (super rice) was found with the lowest seedling survival rate at all chilling temperatures among all four super rice cultivars, however, it was still found more resistant when compared with Yuejingsimiao 2 (non-super rice) in the second experiment. Furthermore synergistic effect of all PGRs alleviated low temperature stress in both rice cultivars by improving seedling survival rates, leaf area, seedling dry weight, seedling height, root morphology and by modulating antioxidant enzymes, improving proline content and lowering lipid peroxidation

longitudinal broadening is generated by a longitudinal flow induced by strong
parton cascade in central Au+Au collisions, in comparison with p+p collisions
at = 200 GeV. The longitudinal broadening may shed light on the

single crystals is investigated by magnetic relaxation and hysteresis
measurements. By substituting with , it is found that the interlayer
Josephson coupling is weakened and the anisotropy is increased, which leads to
the change of vortex dynamics from 3D elastic to 2D plastic vortex creep.
Moreover, the second magnetization peak, which can be observed in samples near
the optimal doping, is absent in the strongly underdoped (with 2D vortex)
