Applying Bag of System Calls for Anomalous Behavior Detection of Applications in Linux Containers
In this paper, we present the results of using bags of system calls for
learning the behavior of Linux containers for use in anomaly-detection based
intrusion detection system. By using system calls of the containers monitored
from the host kernel for anomaly detection, the system does not require any
prior knowledge of the container nature, neither does it require altering the

A three-dimensional viscous flow analysis for the helicopter tip vortex generation problem
The tip vortex flow field occurring in the vicinity of the tip region of a a helicopter rotor blade is a very complicated three-dimensional, viscous flow phenomenon. The details of the flow in the tip region can have a major effect in determining the generated rotor noise and can significantly affect the performance and dynamic loading of the rotor blade. The three-dimensional viscous subsonic tip vortex generation processes is investigated by a numerical procedure which allows spatial forward-marching integration, utilizing flow approximations from the velocity-decomposition approach of Briley and McDonald. The approach has been applied to compute the laminar and turbulent tip vortex flows for a constant thickness slab airfoil with a square tip, a constant thickness slab airfoil with a half round tip and a NACA 0012 airfoil with a half round tip. The basic mechanism of the tip vortex generation process as well as the prediction of vortex appearance, strength and secondary flow shown by the calculations are in qualitative agreement with experimental results
Subharmonic gap structure in short ballistic graphene junctions
We present a theoretical analysis of the current-voltage characteristics of a
ballistic superconductor-normal-superconductor (SNS) junction, in which a strip
of graphene is coupled to two superconducting electrodes. We focus in the
short-junction regime, where the length of the strip is much smaller than
superconducting coherence length. We show that the differential conductance
exhibits a very rich subharmonic gap structure which can be modulated by means
of a gate voltage. On approaching the Dirac point the conductance normalized by
the normal-state conductance is identical to that of a short diffusive SNS

Fast Matrix Factorization for Online Recommendation with Implicit Feedback
This paper contributes improvements on both the effectiveness and efficiency
of Matrix Factorization (MF) methods for implicit feedback. We highlight two
critical issues of existing works. First, due to the large space of unobserved
feedback, most existing works resort to assign a uniform weight to the missing
data to reduce computational complexity. However, such a uniform assumption is
invalid in real-world settings. Second, most methods are also designed in an
offline setting and fail to keep up with the dynamic nature of online data. We
address the above two issues in learning MF models from implicit feedback. We
first propose to weight the missing data based on item popularity, which is
more effective and flexible than the uniform-weight assumption. However, such a
non-uniform weighting poses efficiency challenge in learning the model. To
address this, we specifically design a new learning algorithm based on the
element-wise Alternating Least Squares (eALS) technique, for efficiently
optimizing a MF model with variably-weighted missing data. We exploit this
efficiency to then seamlessly devise an incremental update strategy that
instantly refreshes a MF model given new feedback. Through comprehensive
experiments on two public datasets in both offline and online protocols, we
show that our eALS method consistently outperforms state-of-the-art implicit MF

How Do Consumers Use Nutrition Labels on Food Products in the United States?
This study examined how consumers use food labels in the United States. Based on the results from the cluster analysis, eight nutrition label questions from the Health and Diet Survey fell into 2 categories of label usage: for shopping or for dietary decisions. Survey respondents reported equal or more consideration of nutrition-label information for dietary choices than for shopping decisions in 2008 compared with prior survey years. Female consumers, frequent label users, well-educated, consumers aged 50 to 59, or consumers with any health issues were significantly more likely to use food labels for all kinds of purposes than their corresponding counterparts
Structure and spatial distribution of Ge nanocrystals subjected to fast neutron irradiation
The influence of fast neutron irradiation on the structure and spatial
distribution of Ge nanocrystals (NC) embedded in an amorphous SiO2 matrix has
been studied. The investigation was conducted by means of laser Raman
Scattering (RS), High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy (HR-TEM) and
X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The irradiation of NC-Ge samples by a
high dose of fast neutrons lead to a partial destruction of the nanocrystals.
Full reconstruction of crystallinity was achieved after annealing the radiation
damage at 800 deg. C, which resulted in full restoration of the RS spectrum.
HR-TEM images show, however, that the spatial distributions of NC-Ge changed as
a result of irradiation and annealing. A sharp decrease in NC distribution
towards the SiO2 surface has been observed. This was accompanied by XPS
detection of Ge oxides and elemental Ge within both the surface and subsurface
region
Different steady states for spin currents in noncollinear multilayers
We find there are at least two different steady states for transport across
noncollinear magnetic multilayers. In the conventional one there is a
discontinuity in the spin current across the interfaces which has been
identified as the source of current induced magnetic reversal; in the one
advocated herein the spin torque arises from the spin accumulation transverse
to the magnetization of a magnetic layer. These two states have quite different

Performance tests of signature extension algorithms
Comparative tests were performed on seven signature extension algorithms to evaluate their effectiveness in correcting for changes in atmospheric haze and sun angle in a LANDSAT scene. Four of the algorithms were cluster matching, and two were maximum likelihood algorithms. The seventh algorithm determined the haze level in both training and recognition segments and used a set of tables calculated from an atmospheric model to determine the affine transformation that corrects the training signatures for changes in sun angle and haze level. Three of the algorithms were tested on a simulated data set, and all of the algorithms were tested on consecutive-day data
