An "extension" of the carbohydrate binding specificity of concanavalin A

Evidence based on the quantitative precipitin method and hapten inhibition technique demonstrates that concanavalin A may interact with internal 2-O-linked [alpha]--mannopyranosyl residues as may occur in glycoproteins and polysaccharides.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/33828/1/0000085.pd

    No full text
Over the past 30 years, a growing population of beneficiaries of social minima that are permanently distant from work and socially isolated has formed as a statistical reality. In the form of desolate poverty, it reappears during individual “crises” : neighbourhood disturbances, death, evictions, neglect etc. This isolation of beneficiaries has an impact on their ability to mobilize the social bond, and their ability to maintain their rights. In a relational approach, this work questions the inclusiveness of the only "human dignity" in the absence of "work". It develops through the history of 24 people accompanied by individualized schemes of social assistance in the territory of Cherbourg. How can one inhabit the world, a dwelling, one's life, when while being recognized by social rights, the individual finds himself «idle» of the «ordinary creativity» ? Outside of valued exchanges, he loses his “appearance” by default of “appearing” socially, and is threatened with “desolation” (loneliness - H. Arendt). More than ever inclusive, the generalized Institutional Social Assistance operates a shift in the years 2000. Paradoxically, it becomes exclusionary, abandoning the ideal of work integration (insertion) for the human dignity of concrete rights. A sociability called "liminal" characterized by social withdrawal takes shape. The individual locked apart from the exchange develops links with weak reciprocity. Through an «interpenetration process», this sociability infused the dynamics of secondary and primary socialities, has reversed the symbolic flows between the two spaces, and transformed solidarities. To remobilize the desolate subject, the accompanying person must circumvent his confinement in the assistance, his feeling of relegation and his protections ; the relationship is built there only by the reconstitution of a «primarized link» in social exchanges reopened to reciprocity but to inacessible secondarity). This practice reinterprets social work, as well as societal dynamics as a whole. The individual process of confinement in a distressing sociability, liminarity also appears as a sociality peculiar to the uncertain time of transition ; primary as well as secondary sociality tends to disintegrate in a generalized horizontalisation of social ties, then dissolve into the social space before re-aggregating into new forms.
A new metallo- endopeptidase from human neuroblastoma NB-OK-1 cells which inactivates atrial natriuretic peptide by selective cleavage at the Ser123-Phe124 bond

    No full text
A novel metallo-endopeptidase from human neuroblastoma NB-OK-1 cells was partially purified and characterized. This enzyme activity was detected in the culture medium and could be detached from intact cells by gentle washing, suggesting a peripheral localization of the enzyme. This endopeptidase inactivated Atrial Natriuretic Peptide (ANP) by a unique and selective cleavage of the Ser123-Phe124 bond. It also produced hydrolysis at the Xaa-Phe, Xaa-Leu, or Xaa-Ile bonds of other peptide hormones such as bradykinin, somatostatin 14, litorin, substance P, neuromedin C and angiotensin II. The substrate selectivity and inhibition profile of the enzyme showed obvious similarities with the peptide hormone inactivating endopeptidase (PHIE) recently purified from Xenopus laevis skin secretions and indicated a thermolysin-like activity distinct from neutral endopeptidase (EC 3.4.24.11) and from angiotensin converting enzyme (EC 3.4.15.1). © 1992 Academic Press, Inc.Comparative StudyJournal ArticleResearch Support, Non-U.S. Gov'tinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe
