    Towards a precise determination of the topological susceptibility in the SU(3) Yang-Mills theory

    An ongoing effort to compute the topological susceptibility for the SU(3) Yang-Mills theory in the continuum limit with a precison of about 2% is reported. The susceptibility is computed by using the definition of the charge suggested by Neuberger fermions for two values of the negative mass parameter s. Finite volume and discretization effects are estimated to meet this level of precision. The large statistics required has been obtained by using PCs of the INFN-GRID.     We present preliminary results for a high statistics study of the topological charge distribution in the SU(3) Yang-Mills theory obtained by using the definition of the charge suggested by Neuberger fermions. We find statistical evidence for deviations from a gaussian distribution.     In this paper we reply to a the comment made by Revil (2017) on our paper (2017, Geophys. J. Int., 208), where we describe seismoelectric phenomena in the vadose zone based on the theory of Pride empirically extended for unsaturated conditions. We analyse and answer each one of the enumerated critics, and reaffirm the conclusions of our work. In particular, we prove that using the conductivity model suggested by Revil (2017) does not change our predictions significantly, contrary to what was argued in the comment. Further, in the light of previous and new theoretical and experimental results existing in the literature, we confirm the reasonability of having tested a non-monotonic saturation dependent streaming potential coefficient model besides the monotonic one, and discuss the suitability of assuming a linear relation between the permeability and the excess charge.Fil: Zyserman, Fabio Ivan.     Solvability and uniqueness criteria for generalized Sylvester-type equations

    We provide necessary and sufficient conditions for the generalized ⋆\star-Sylvester matrix equation, AXB+CX⋆D=EAXB + CX^\star D = E, to have exactly one solution for any right-hand side E. These conditions are given for arbitrary coefficient matrices A,B,C,DA, B, C, D (either square or rectangular) and generalize existing results for the same equation with square coefficients.
