The Effectiveness of an Accelerated Cohort Program on Grade Point Averages in the Industrial Process Control Technology Program at a Rural Middle Tennessee Community College
The purpose of this causal comparative study was to determine the effectiveness of accelerated cohort technical programs on student success, defined by grade point average, for both traditional and adult learners compared to traditional technical programs at the community college level. The study was conducted within the Industrial Process Control Program (IPCT) at a community college satellite campus located in a predominately rural county in middle Tennessee. The sample included 138 students who had successfully completed all remediation requirements and a minimum of one first semester IPCT course between the years of 2011 and 2014. Archival data was collected through cooperation with the community college\u27s Institutional Research Department. The research was conducted utilizing a 2X2 factorial design with testing for significance achieved through the use of a two-way ANOVA with an alpha level of .05. The study found no significant effect or interaction when considering the grade point averages of students regardless of delivery method or age. The study concluded that accelerated cohort programs are a viable alternative to traditional delivery methods. The researcher suggests that further study is needed on multi-site programs and accelerated cohort student motivation
The Necessary Strategy of Renunciation: The Triumph of Emily Dickinson and the Fall of Sylvia Plath
In writing at all, Adrienne Rich notes, women have often felt in danger of losing their status as women Emily Dickinson knew this fear, and her solution, applied with amazing consistency throughout her poetry, was to consciously withdraw from the exalted station of womanhood as she found it defined by church, family, and state. Far from robbing her of an identity, this renunciation allowed her to discover the quality and parameter of her own mind and exempted her from having to pose as what others believed a woman should be

Alfalfa Varieties
Alfalfa (Medicago sativa) is the highest yielding, highest quality legume forage crop raised in Kentucky. This crop forms the basis of Kentucky\u27s cash hay enterprise and is an important component in dairy, horse, beef and sheep diets. In 1990, 320,000 acres of alfalfa were produced in Kentucky, averaging 3.4 tons of dry matter yield per acre. At 81.6 million.
This report will provide current yield data on alfalfa varieties currently in the Kentucky Alfalfa Variety Trials. Also, guidelines on selecting alfalfa varieties will be discussed
Advances in Alfalfa Variety Development and Testing
Alfalfa (Medicago sativa) is historically the highest yielding, highest quality forage legume grown in Kentucky. It forms the basis of Kentucky\u27s cash hay enterprise and is an important component in dairy, horse, beef and sheep diets. Over 300,000 acres of alfalfa are grown annually in Kentucky, with state yields averaging between 3 and 4 tons per acre.
The development and testing of alfalfa varieties is a dynamic process that impacts all Kentucky farmers. The Kentucky Alfalfa Variety Testing program was re-started in 1990 and is carried out through the efforts of several people, including Leonard Lauriault, Linda Brown (Western Kentucky University), Garry Lacefield, Paul Vincelli, and John Parr. Alfalfa varieties are being studied for yield in 6 plot studies over 3 locations (Lexington, Bowling Green, and Princeton). Other research being conducted include the effect of aphanomyces root rot on variety yield and persistence and the effect of variety on forage quality
An alternative approach to combination vaccines: intradermal administration of isolated components for control of anthrax, botulism, plague and staphylococcal toxic shock
BACKGROUND: Combination vaccines reduce the total number of injections required for each component administered separately and generally provide the same level of disease protection. Yet, physical, chemical, and biological interactions between vaccine components are often detrimental to vaccine safety or efficacy. METHODS: As a possible alternative to combination vaccines, we used specially designed microneedles to inject rhesus macaques with four separate recombinant protein vaccines for anthrax, botulism, plague and staphylococcal toxic shock next to each other just below the surface of the skin, thus avoiding potentially incompatible vaccine mixtures. RESULTS: The intradermally-administered vaccines retained potent antibody responses and were well- tolerated by rhesus macaques. Based on tracking of the adjuvant, the vaccines were transported from the dermis to draining lymph nodes by antigen-presenting cells. Vaccinated primates were completely protected from an otherwise lethal aerosol challenge by Bacillus anthracis spores, botulinum neurotoxin A, or staphylococcal enterotoxin B. CONCLUSION: Our results demonstrated that the physical separation of vaccines both in the syringe and at the site of administration did not adversely affect the biological activity of each component. The vaccination method we describe may be scalable to include a greater number of antigens, while avoiding the physical and chemical incompatibilities encountered by combining multiple vaccines together in one product
