effect of the silane concentration on the selected properties of an experimental microfilled composite resin
The aim of present study was evaluate the effect of different percentages of an organo-functionalized silane monomer as adhesion promoter between barium borosilicate glass fillers and (co)monomer blend in experimental dental composite resin. Gamma-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (γ-MPS) was assessed in an experimental luting cement, at the concentrations of 0, 1, 3, 5, 7 and 10 (wt%). The experimental resin without fillers was used as control group. The flexural strength (FS) and elastic modulus (E) were obtained by mini-flexural test and expressed in MPa and GPa, respectively. Water sorption (WS) and solubility (SL) were determined based on ISO standard 4049:2000. Kruskal–Wallis and Student–Newman–Keuls test were used for comparisons of FS, E and WS. The comparisons of SL means were performed using one-way ANOVA and Tukey's method (α = 5 %). The treatment with 3 % silane revealed statistically higher FS, while the group treated with 1 % silane showed statistically higher E than 3 % silane (p < 0.05) and E similar to control. The experimental composite without filler content showed the highest SL (p < 0.05) while the control composite showed the highest WS (p < 0.05). Based on present findings, flexural strength and elastic modulus can sometimes be improved with lower concentrations (1–3 %) rather than higher concentrations (5–7 %) of the silane (γ-MPS) used as coupling agent on barium borosilicate glass filler microparticles of the dental composite resin
Peering into the formation of template-free hierarchical flowerlike nanostructures of SrTiO3
The development of efficient advanced functional materials is highly dependent on properties such as morphology, crystallinity, and surface functionality. In this work, hierarchical flowerlike nanostructures of SrTiO3 have been synthesized by a simple template-free solvothermal method involving poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP). Molecular dynamics simulations supported by structural characterization have shown that PVP preferentially adsorbs on {110} facets, thereby promoting the {100} facet growth. This interaction results in the formation of hierarchical flowerlike nanostructures with assembled nanosheets. The petal morphology is strongly dependent on the presence of PVP, and the piling up of nanosheets, leading to nanocubes, is observed when PVP is removed at high temperatures. This work contributes to a better understanding of how to control the morphological properties of SrTiO3, which is fundamental to the synthesis of perovskite-type materials with tailored properties
Amorphization Effects on the Basic Sites of Nanometric Magnesium Oxide
The paper reports the catalytic action of the basic sites of nanocrystalline particles of rare
earth-doped magnesium oxide in the aldolization reaction between acetone and methanol leading
to the C–C bond formation of an a,b-unsaturated compound (methyl vinyl ketone), also forming
methyl ethyl ketone and isopropyl alcohol. Undoped and doped MgO samples were prepared by
high-energy mechanical milling of commercial Mg, Y and Ce oxide powders. Catalytic activity
and surface basicity of these compounds were strongly influenced by doping and the time of mechanical
milling (amorphization process). Such milling leads to the formation of nanocrystalline
materials. Influence of mechanical processing of these compounds was investigated by means of
N2 adsorption (BET), X-ray diffraction (XRD), TEM, CO2 chemisorption and room temperature
photoluminescence emission. Strong changes of polar groups such as hydroxyl groups on the
surface of the solid were directly related to the photoluminescence emission observed
DETRITAL ZIRCON U-Pb GEOCHRONOLOGY OF THE MARICÁ GROUP: SOURCES AREAS AND MAXIMUM DEPOSITIONAL AGE: Geocronologia U-Pb de Zircão Detritíco do Grupo Maricá: Áreas Fontes e Idade Máxima de Deposição
The Maricá Group is the basal unit of the Camaquã Basin and comprises mainly fluvial deposits and shallow marine beds. Provenance studies of the Maricá Group are crucial to understanding the initial development of this basin. This paper aims to present new LA-ICP-MS U-Pb provenance data for the evaluation of the source areas and the maximum depositional age of the Maricá Group. This work includes fieldwork recognition, petrographic analysis, and U-Pb dating of one sandstone and two clasts samples, from the Arroio América Formation, the youngest unit from Maricá Group. The Arroio América Formation was deposited on a braided fluvial system and is composed of sandstones, conglomeratic sandstones, and conglomerates rocks. The sandstone and the sandstone clast display a similar zircon age range and pattern. They are derived from mixed sources (599 – 3025 Ma) with a major contribution of Syderian (2422 Ma), Ediacaran (621 Ma), and Statherian (1749 Ma) sources. Minor contributions from Ryacian (2212-2040 Ma) and Archean (2823-2503) are also present. The Ediacaran sources are related to Ediacaran granites from Bagé Region as the Santo Afonso Suite. The maximum depositional age of the sandstone was constrained at 599.8 ± 11.5 Ma and the sandstone clast at 619.4 ± 11 Ma. The similarity between the sandstone and the clast ages shows that portions of this basin and probably the Maricá Group itself served as a source of sediments, indicating a dynamic setting with deposition, burial, uplift, and rework in a short time.O Grupo Maricá é a unidade basal da Bacia do Camaquã e é composto principalmente por depósitos fluviais e marinhos rasos.
Synthesis, characterization and catalytic properties of nanocrystaline Y2O3-coated TiO2 in the ethanol dehydration reaction
Preparation, characterization and catalytic properties of titanium oxide nanoparticles coated with aluminum oxide.
In the present study, TiO2 nanopowder was partially coated with Al2O3
precursors generated by a polymeric precursor method in aqueous solution. The
system of nanocoated particles formed an ultra thin structure on the TiO2 nanoparticle
surfaces, where the particle is the core and the nanocoating (additive) is the
shell. The nanocoating process led to the obtainment of nanoparticles with important
surface characteristics and catalytic behavior in the bioethanol dehydration
reaction, with improved activity and particular selectivity in comparison to their
non-coated analogs. Ethylene production was disfavored and selectivity toward
acetaldehyde, hydrogen and ethane increased with increasing Al2O3 content in the
catalysts. It is important to highlight that the TiO2–Al2O3 catalysts presented satisfactory
values of selectivity toward hydrogen, in spite of the deactivation observed
during the period of the test
