My thesis exhibition explores psychological disorders through installation, painting, drawing, sculpture and performance. The viewer’s interaction with the installation, which references an individual’s domestic and very personal spaces, allows a physical awareness and appreciation of another’s personality and psychological characteristics. This is done in order to create a more in-depth understanding or empathy of abnormal psychology and various mental states, such as intense anxiety or anger, which exist within all of us

Wörterbuchportale : Fragen der Benutzerführung

In diesem Beitrag geht es um Fragen der Benutzerführung in lexikografisch-lexikologischen Portalen, und zwar inbesondere um die Portale OWID (Mannheim) und „Wörterbuch-Portal“ (Berlin). Diese werden mit ihrer jeweiligen Konzeption sowie ihrem technischen Aufbau vorgestellt und dann aus Benutzersicht bewertet. An Vorschläge für die Weiterentwicklung dieser Angebote schließen sich einige grundsätzliche Überlegungen zur Zukunft lexikografischer Portale an.This contribution discusses questions of user interaction in dictionary portals. The dictionary portals OWID (Institut für Deutsche Sprache, Mannheim) and „Wörterbuch-Portal“ (Berlin-Brandenburgische Akademie der Wissenschaften) are presented as showcases. Their conceptual as well as their technical layer are discussed in detail. Both portals are evaluated with regard to their interaction with their prospective users. Suggestions for the advancement of these portals as well as some considerations about the future of internet-based dictionary portals conclude this paper

Einfluss des ökologischen Landbaus auf unterschiedliche Humuspools im Boden und Schlussfolgerungen zur Humusbilanzierung

Due to the results of organic matter balancing which showed a very high potential of soil organic matter accumulation in organic farming, a research project was started in spring 2005 with the objective to ascertain this hypothesis. Soil sampling was carried out on different organic and adjacent conventional farms in distinct regions of Ger-many. A comparison of the samples regarding Corg showed only minor differences between organic and conventional farms whereas the more sensitive indicators like Cmic and enzyme activities were more affected. However the main influencing factor of all these indicators in this investigation is soil texture. The cultivation system (inten-sive, extensive, stocking, crop rotation, tillage) is more important than the differentia-tion organic or conventional farming

Improvement of the Digestibility of Sulfated Hyaluronans by Bovine Testicular Hyaluronidase: a UV Spectroscopic and Mass Spectrometric Study

Glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) such as hyaluronan (HA) and chondroitin sulfate (CS) are important, natural polysaccharides which occur in biological (connective) tissues and have various biotechnological and medical applications. Additionally, there is increasing evidence that chemically (over)sulfated GAGs possess promising properties and are useful as implant coatings. Unfortunately, a detailed characterization of these GAGs is challenging: although mass spectrometry (MS) is one of the most powerful tools to elucidate the structures of (poly)saccharides, MS is not applicable to high mass polysaccharides, but characteristic oligosaccharides are needed. These oligosaccharides are normally generated by enzymatic digestion. However, chemically modified (particularly sulfated) GAGs are extremely refractive to enzymatic digestion. This study focuses on the investigation of the digestibility of GAGs with different degrees of sulfation by bovine testicular hyaluronidase (BTH). It will be shown by using an adapted spectrophotometric assay that all investigated GAGs can be basically digested if the reaction conditions are carefully adjusted. However, the oligosaccharide yield correlates reciprocally with the number of sulfate residues per polymer repeating unit. Finally, matrix-laser desorption and ionization (MALDI) MS will be used to study the released oligosaccharides and their sulfation patterns

Cranberry Expressions in English and in German

The authors describe two data sets submitted to the database of MWE evaluation resources: (1) cranberry expressions in English and (2) cranberry expressions in German. The first package contains a collection of 444 cranberry words in German (CWde.txt) and a collection of the corresponding cranberry expressions (CCde.txt). The second package consists of a collection of 77 cranberry words in English (CWen.txt) and a collection of the corresponding cranberry expressions (CCen.txt). The data included in these packages was extracted from the Collection of Distributionally Idiosyncratic Items (CoDII), an electronic linguistic resource of lexical items with idiosyncratic occurrence patterns. Wirkungen differenzierter Bodenbearbeitungssysteme im Dauerversuch Scheyern

After a 12-year differing tillage in a 7-phase crop rotation with lay, potatoes, wheat, sunflowers, lay, wheat and rye it was found, that mouldboard-ploughing (P) resulted in less weed. Crop yields were as high as in the treatment with ploughing after lay and chiselling after potatoes and sunflowers (B). Lowest yields were obtained without ploughing but using the chisel (G). Weeds, esp. grasses, resulted in a huge competition for crops esp. after lay. Profit margins were highest in B due to lower expenditures for tillage and lowest in G. Soil organic carbon amounts differed by 1,5 t/ha and earthworm biomass by 0,25 t/ha between P and G after 12 years. It can be summed up for this experiment that G was not sustainable due to weeds and declining yields, and that B resulted in best economic profit, increasing SOM content and seems to be a sustainable compromise

Protective Aptitude of Annexin A1 in Arterial Neointima Formation in Atherosclerosis-Prone Mice-Brief Report

Objective-Restenosis as a consequence of arterial injury is aggravated by inflammatory pathways. Here, we investigate the role of the proresolving protein annexin A1 (AnxA1) in healing after wire injury. Approach and Results-Apoe(-/-) and Apoe(-/-) Anxa1(-/-) mice were subjected to wire injury while fed a high-cholesterol diet. Subsequently, localization of AnxA1 and AnxA1 plasma levels were examined. AnxA1 was found to localize within endothelial cells and macrophages in the neointima. Levels of AnxA1 in the plasma and its lesional expression negatively correlated with neointima size, and in the absence of AnxA1, neointima formation was aggravated by the accumulation and proliferation of macrophages. In contrast, reendothelialization and smooth muscle cell infiltration were not affected in Apoe(-/-) Anxa1(-/-) mice. Conclusions-AnxA1 is protective in healing after wire injury and could, therefore, be an attractive therapeutic compound to prevent from restenosis after vascular damage
