Part I. Synthetic Investigations of Heterocyclic Natural and Unnatural Compounds Part II. New Approach to Latent Fingerprint Detection on Paper
Since the discovery and isolation of the didemnin family of marine depsipeptides in 1981, the synthesis and biological activity of its congeners have been of great interest to the scientific community. Of those, didemnin B was the first marine natural product to reach phase II clinical trials, stimulating many analogue syntheses to date. Almost two decades later, tamandarins A and B were reported and found to possess a structure similar to that of the didemnins. Significant efforts have been devoted to the syntheses of tamandarin analogues to find whether they behaved as didemnin mimics or as individual therapeutic agents. The biological and synthetic significance of the didemnins, tamandarins, and related natural products are discussed in Chapter 1.
The improved second-generation synthesis of the tamandarin B macrocycle and its successful application to the syntheses of three novel tamandarin B side chain analogues are presented in Chapter 2. The results of these investigations could help elucidate the structure-activity relationship as well as mode of action of these natural products.
Chapter 3 deals with the generation of structurally intriguing azabicyclic [3.1.0]- and [4.1.0]aminocyclopropanes and their application in an unprecedented ring-opening conditions to afford corresponding 3-piperidinone and 3-azepinone derivatives which are important pharmaceutical motifs.
Chapter 4 introduces a rapidly growing family of natural diketopiperazine alkaloids: epipolythiodiketopiperazine (ETP) alkaloids, and related synthetic efforts in the generation of these alkaloids. Extensive synthetic investigation towards the formal synthesis of (−)-epicoccin G and other related epidithiodiketopiperazine alkaloids have been conducted. A novel methodology to access the 6-5-6-5-6 pentacyclic framework present in many ETP alkaloids is presented. Further application of this methodology in total synthesis could provide ETP alkaloids that have not been synthesized.
Chapter 5 deals with the development and successful application of 1,2-indanedione functionalized gold nanoparticles in a modified multi-metal deposition process for the development of latent fingerprints on paper. Although a wide variety of ninhydrin-like compounds have been developed as chemical agents for this process over the years, considerable portions of latent fingerprints still escape detection. The new approach provides an alternative method of fingerprint detection that could be utilized in challenging situations
Guest Delight: The Influence of Sustainable Performance and Guests\u27 Perceived Health and Safety
Recently, the COVID-19 pandemic has further emphasized the importance of guests’ health, safety, and well-being in the hotel industry. Further, in today’s highly competitive environment, hotels must orchestrate memorable experiences for guests to realize their value and become ambassadors for the brand. The purpose of this research is to explore the antecedents (i.e., sustainable performance, safety, and health) and the outcomes (i.e., brand love, trust, and willingness to pay more) of customer delight. Surveys will be distributed to hotel guests and the results can provide insights and implications for scholars and practitioners to better understand the concept of customer delight
The Impact of Minimum Wage Introduction on Characteristics of New Establishments: Evidence from South Korea
This paper examines whether imposing minimum wage alters the characteristics of new businesses. Applying a difference-in-differences framework to repeated cross-sectional data of new plants, we explore the impact of minimum wage introduction on characteristics of new plants in South Korea. We first confirm that the minimum wage introduction induced new plants to have higher remuneration to workers. Due to the imposed minimum wage, the new plants tend to start with fewer employees and to equip their employees with more capital. Finally, we find that the minimum wage introduction led to higher labor productivity among entering plants

Adoptability of Korean PPP scheme from the recipient's perspective
Thesis(Master) --KDI School:Master of Public Policy,2011In trying to have the lessons from the Korean PPP and developing countries’ actual circumstances communicated, this paper conducts an online-survey on the adoptability of the Korean infrastructure public private partnerships (PPPs) scheme. This paper traces five root
constraints in adopting the Korean infrastructure PPP scheme from the recipient’s perspective and gives tailored solutions derived from the Korean PPP experiences regarding these constraints.
It provides policy makers with a road map for making efficient use of ODA to achieve better PPPs as well as tangible development that require governance and entrepreneur spirit to tango.masterpublishedby Jijun Lee
Enhancing Spatiotemporal Traffic Prediction through Urban Human Activity Analysis
Traffic prediction is one of the key elements to ensure the safety and
convenience of citizens. Existing traffic prediction models primarily focus on
deep learning architectures to capture spatial and temporal correlation. They
often overlook the underlying nature of traffic. Specifically, the sensor
networks in most traffic datasets do not accurately represent the actual road
network exploited by vehicles, failing to provide insights into the traffic
patterns in urban activities. To overcome these limitations, we propose an
improved traffic prediction method based on graph convolution deep learning
algorithms. We leverage human activity frequency data from National Household
Travel Survey to enhance the inference capability of a causal relationship
between activity and traffic patterns. Despite making minimal modifications to
the conventional graph convolutional recurrent networks and graph convolutional
transformer architectures, our approach achieves state-of-the-art performance
without introducing excessive computational overhead.Comment: CIKM 202
Improving Real Estate Appraisal with POI Integration and Areal Embedding
Despite advancements in real estate appraisal methods, this study primarily
focuses on two pivotal challenges. Firstly, we explore the often-underestimated
impact of Points of Interest (POI) on property values, emphasizing the
necessity for a comprehensive, data-driven approach to feature selection.
Secondly, we integrate road-network-based Areal Embedding to enhance spatial
understanding for real estate appraisal. We first propose a revised method for
POI feature extraction, and discuss the impact of each POI for house price
appraisal. Then we present the Areal embedding-enabled Masked Multihead
Attention-based Spatial Interpolation for House Price Prediction (AMMASI)
model, an improvement upon the existing ASI model, which leverages masked
multi-head attention on geographic neighbor houses and similar-featured houses.
Our model outperforms current baselines and also offers promising avenues for
future optimization in real estate appraisal methodologies
Integrating Interprofessional Education Through Service-Learning: Continued multidisciplinary collaboration for student-led volunteer healthcare event
SCOPE (Student Community Outreach for Public Education) at University of the Pacific (UOP), Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry sponsored the 25th Annual Senior Smiles Health & Wellness Fair in its clinic, located in San Francisco on April 21th, 2018. More than 105 San Francisco’s senior citizens with limited access to health care attended this event. As a continuation of last year’s Senior Smiles & Wellness which pioneered the launch of Interprofessional education (IPE) activities, SCOPE provided various health screenings to the senior attendees in partnership with Dugoni’s sister schools UOP Audiology and Physical Therapy program as well as Touro College of Pharmacy.
This event was designed to be a continued effort of interdisciplinary community-outreach based learning that models UOP\u27s Dental School Helix Curriculum.
