Der Beitrag analysiert die Versuche der Regierungen in Argentinien, Bolivien, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Uruguay, Venezuela und Brasilien in den 2000er Jahren den ländlichen Raum zugunsten benachteiligter Sektoren und demokratisch umzugestalten. Die Bilanz fällt ernüchternd aus. Zwar gab es Verbesserungen bei den Lebens- und Arbeitsbedingungen auf dem Land, doch häufig unterstützten die Regierungen die großflächige Exportlandwirtschaft weiter. Die ländlichen sozialen Bewegungen und ihre basisdemokratischen Versuche wurden von den Mitte-Links-Regierungen politisch nicht gestärkt

Capitalism, Democracy, and the Degrowth Horizon

This papers seeks to contribute to a dialogue between the degrowth perspective and Marxist approaches on the sources and possible solutions to the ongoing ecological crisis of capitalism. While I agree with the general critique that the degrowth movement has raised not only against the consequences of growth but also against the idea of growth itself, I argue that the root causes of the destructive character of capitalism are not to be found in growth, but in capitalist accumulation. I present my reading of three of Marx’s most important contributions to our understanding of capitalism and argue for an understanding that puts the emphasis on the separation of the labourers from the means of production, alienated labour, the imperative and the dynamic of competition, and the limited nature of liberal democracy. I argue that growth could be greened in a post-capitalist society if the institutions and dynamics that drive capitalist accumulation were abolished and full democracy was established. The paper ends with a description of how the Zapatista movement in Chiapas and the Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST) in Brazil managed to unevenly and contradictorily challenge and subvert some of the social institutions and dynamics that sustain capitalist accumulation

Actualmente los movimientos campesinos en América Latina presentan un carácter vivaz académica y políticamente. Durante las últimas dos décadas, los movimientos sociales rurales han sido el sustento de la izquierda latinoamericana, logrando agitar las agendas de gobiernos en algunos países del continente. Se han presentado como la vanguardia de la movilización social en contra del neoliberalismo; han derribado gobiernos; han provisto apoyo a gobiernos nacionalistas de izquierda y populistas; y se han involucrado en la lucha global en contra de las transnacionales de agroindustria a través de la Vía Campesina o la Coordinadora Latinoamericana de Organizaciones del Campo (CLOC)

Globalización, tierra, resistencia y autonomía: el EZLN y el MST

Este artículo presenta una comparación de la lucha por la tierra del ezln en Chiapas y del mst en Brasil en el marco de la globalización. Se postula que las bases sociales de estos movimientos, desde su contexto específico, rechazan la lógica del mercado y adoptan estrategias de resistencia que privilegian la producción de subsistencia. Se postula por fin que la lucha por tener y mantener el acceso a la tierra produce un control territorial que genera un poder popular autónomo que desemboca en estrategias políticas distintas, resultado de las experiencias concretas que han tenido los movimientos con los partidos políticos y el Estado
