Psammaplins Selectively Target Triple-Negative Metastatic Breast Tumor Cells that are Genetically Programmed to Colonize Specific Organs

Five bromotyrosine-derived marine sponge metabolites, four psammaplins (1 – 4) and the psammaplin dimer, bisaprasin (5) were isolated from a lipid extract sample of the marine sponge Dendrilla lacunosa.  Psammaplins act as histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitors that alter cellular gene expression.  The D. lacunosa psammaplins activated the oxygen regulated transcription factor HIF-1 (hypoxia-inducible factor-1) in T47D human breast tumor cells and displayed cell line specific effects against aggressive organotropic metastatic cell lines that were derived from triple-negative MDA-MB-231 human breast tumor cells

Processes of tagging behaviors : case studies of CiteULike, LibraryThing, YouTube and Flickr

    Get PDF
This work is a study of tagging behavior processes in different types of documents and tagging sites. Moreover, the tagging challenges are addressed following tagging behavior processes. The study is limited to CiteULike, LibraryThing, YouTube and Flickr as case studies. However, tagging behavior processes and tagging challenges are concentrated rather than evaluation of the above tagging sites. To define the processes of tagging behavior and the tagging challenges, the talk aloud experiments have been conducted to the informants who are real taggers in various tagging sites such as Facebook, Flickr, YouTube, Picasa as well as some other personal blog. The surveys of tagging experience and open interviews have also taken a long with the experiments. The results of this study show that there are 2 main types of taggers: confident taggers and certainty taggers. Those types of taggers have different behaviors and feeling during tagging. Moreover, the process of video and image tagging is distinguished with text tagging. Most of the informants felt simpler and easier to tag for pictures and videos than text since the videos and pictures are visible and easier to understand. According to the processes, there will be 4 main tagging issues such as information resources issues, tagging function issues, vocabularies issues and patience in tagging. The findings in the thesis could be a useful reference for building tagging systems in practices. Besides, the thesis might be used as hypothesis of tagging behavior to other relevant researches.Joint Master Degree in Digital Library Learning (DILL

    DNA Hypermethylation in Breast Cancer

    Get PDF
Cancer development is a complex process with multiple steps. Many factors, including radiation, chemicals, viruses, genetic and epigenetic changes, lead to abnormal proliferation of a single cell, which results in the outgrowth of a population of clonal-derived tumour cells. It has established that DNA hypermethylation, an epigenetic mechanism that occurred by the addition of a methyl group at 5′ position of the pyrimidine ring of cytosine residues at CpG islands through the action of DNA methyltransferase enzymes, has been considered as the cause of human tumorigenesis, including breast cancer development. Moreover, DNA hypermethylation holds a promising application as a potential biomarker for the early detection, prognosis and prediction of drug sensitivity in cancer. Therefore, this chapter focuses on the description and exemplification of the DNA hypermethylation changes, particularly, highlight the DNA hypermethylation as a potential biomarker applied in predictive, diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic monitoring of breast cancer

The contribution of free radicals in paracetamol degradation by UV/NaClO

    Get PDF
UV/Chlorine is an emerging advanced oxidation process which forms several reactive species including •OH, •Cl, •OCl. This study investigated the contribution of three main free radicals: •OH, •Cl, •OCl on Paracetamol degradation under different conditions. Benzoic acid (BA), Nitro benzene (NB) and DMOB were used as probe compounds. The second rate constant of •OH, •Cl, •OCl with PRC were determined: 4.19 (±0.15) ×109 M-1s-1; 3.71 1010 M-1s-1; 3.532×109 M-1s-1, respectively. The formation of free radicals depends on pH. In particular, at pH 5: the contribution of •OH and     (-•OCl, •Cl) are 45 %, 41 %, respectively, at pH 8.5, the contribution of free radicals increases up to 63 %. Keywords. Digital Transformation of the Banking Industry in Developing Countries

    Get PDF
Purpose:  The study's objective is to test the impact of digital transactions on banking performance. Based on the previous research and the actual situations, it has been recognized that the critical role of digital banking is in developing the banking industry, especially in developing countries.   Theoretical framework:  In the next section, the study presents background information to promote the research. The digital transformation has changed how customers use financial services. This has pushed banks to adapt more quickly to the wave of digital transformation if they don't want to lose their valuable customer base.   Design/methodology/approach:  the methodology applied uses POOL, FEM, REM, and FGLS models to examine the impact of banking transactions made by digital technology on the bank's deposit and lending revenue. This article studies banking operations on digital platforms from 2012 to 2019 in developing countries.   Findings: The article's findings showed that digital banks' flexible products and services bring many benefits with a high level of interaction, such as supporting the relationship between customers and banks and improving operating revenue.   Research, Practical & Social implications: Practical implications enhanced the development potential of digital banking is relatively large, stemming from the market demand development orientation of the banking industry.   Originality/value: The paper's originality and value help banks invest in digital technology as the way forward to better serve their customers

Effects of different nutrient solutions on growth and flower quality of gerbera (Gerbera jamesonii) grown in hydroponic close system

The nutrient solution is the decisive factor for the growth and development of hydroponic plants. This study was conducted to determine the effect of five nutrient solutions, namely, Hoagland, Knop, Hydro Umat F, BKFAST, and Bio-Life, on the growth and development of gerbera (Gerbera jamesonii) in the hydroponic system. The results show that Hydro Umat F is the most suitable solution for planting gerbera in terms of plant height, number of leaves, leaf size, and root volume. In addition, the flower yield of the gerbera plants nourished on Hydro Umat F is also the highest, with 8.7 flowers per plant after five months in the hydroponic system. The flowers have a diameter of 9.8 cm and natural durability of 19.67 days. Meanwhile, gerbera plants stop growing after 15 days in the Bio-Life solution and 30 days in the Knop solution
