Reciprocal Interactions between Lactoferrin and Bacterial Endotoxins and Their Role in the Regulation of the Immune Response
Lactoferrin (Lf), an iron-binding glycoprotein expressed in most biological fluids, represents a major component of the mammalian innate immune system. Lf’s multiple activities rely not only on its capacity to bind iron, but also to interact with molecular and cellular components of both host and pathogens. Lf can bind and sequester lipopolysaccharide (LPS), thus preventing pro-inflammatory pathway activation, sepsis and tissue damage. However, Lf-bound LPS may retain the capacity to induce cell activation via Toll-like receptor 4-dependent and -independent mechanisms. This review discusses the complex interplay between Lf and LPS and its relevance in the regulation of the immune response
Correction to: Narcolepsy: a model interaction between immune system, nervous system, and sleep-wake regulation.
Narcolepsy is a rare chronic neurological disorder characterized by an irresistible excessive daytime sleepiness and cataplexy. The disease is considered to be the result of the selective disruption of neuronal cells in the lateral hypothalamus expressing the neuropeptide hypocretin, which controls the sleep-wake cycle. Diagnosis and management of narcolepsy represent still a substantial medical challenge due to the large heterogeneity in the clinical manifestation of the disease as well as to the lack of understanding of the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms. However, significant advances have been made in the last years, thus opening new perspective in the field. This review describes the current knowledge of clinical presentation and pathology of narcolepsy as well as the existing diagnostic criteria and therapeutic intervention for the disease management. Recent evidence on the potential immune-mediated mechanisms that may underpin the disease establishment and progression are also highlighted.ISSN:1863-2297ISSN:1863-230

Since the promulgation of the Political Constitution, the rights of indigenous communities
took a more leading role in the field of public policies and in judicial decisions. On the other
hand, the State Council has been modifying its judicial pronouncements against the
recognition of moral damage in legal persons, admitting in some cases the possibility of being
repaired despite the fact that it is facing fictitious persons who cannot feel moral damages.
Having said that, this paper aims to study how morals are recognized in legal persons with
respect to indigenous communities according to the jurisprudence in Colombia
To evaluate naturally fractured reservoirs, there are different sources of information and methods that may be of limited access or high costs, especially for formations in which their level of productivity is unknown, or that have not yet been studied to determine their viability as hydrocarbon producer. Therefore, this article presents the application of an outcrop analysis method, as a source of indirect information, to characterize and determine the possible migration routes of the Hondita and Lomagorda carbonate formations belonging to the Villeta group. In the development of this characterization, the use of rectangular window-type fracture sampling strategies was implemented, through the exercise of taking structural measures, such as direction, dip, separation and spacing, over delimited areas in the outcrops of the formations of interest. With the help of the results, were identified 7 zones of joints, with a trend in low-angle courses with ranges in the northeast direction, establishing that this would be the predominance of fluid migration; giving an expectation that these data positively improve the development of the reservoirs.
