Testing of quantum phase in matter wave optics
Various phase concepts may be treated as special cases of the maximum
likelihood estimation. For example the discrete Fourier estimation that
actually coincides with the operational phase of Noh, Fouge`res and Mandel is
obtained for continuous Gaussian signals with phase modulated mean.Since
signals in quantum theory are discrete, a prediction different from that given
by the Gaussian hypothesis should be obtained as the best fit assuming a
discrete Poissonian statistics of the signal. Although the Gaussian estimation
gives a satisfactory approximation for fitting the phase distribution of almost
any state the optimal phase estimation offers in certain cases a measurable
better performance. This has been demonstrated in neutron--optical experiment.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figure
Topcolor assisted technicolor models and muon anomalous magnetic moment
We discuss and estimate the contributions of the new particles predicted by
topcolor assisted technicolor(TC2) models to the muon anomalous magnetic moment
. Our results show that the contributions of Pseudo Goldstone bosons
are very small which can be safely ignored. The main contributions come from
the ETC gauge boson and topcolor gauge boson . If we
demand that the mass of is consistent with other experimental
constrains, its contributions are smaller than that of . With
reasonable values of the parameters in TC2 models, the observed BNL results for
could be explained.Comment: latex file, 11 pages, several figures and references adde
Lepton flavor violation two-body decays of quarkoniums
In this paper we firstly study various model-independent bounds on lepton
flavor violation (LFV) in processes of , and
two-body decays, then calculate their branch ratios % By using the constraints
from other ways, we obtain %the indirect bounds of in models of the leptoquark, violating
MSSM and topcolor assisted technicolor(TC2) models.Comment: 14 pages, 4 figures, submitted to PR
Production and decay of the neutral top-pion in high energy colliders
We study the production and decay of the neutral top-pion
predicted by topcolor-assisted technicolor(TC2) theory. Our results show that,
except the dominant decay modes , and , the
can also decay into and modes. It can
be significantly produced at high energy collider(LC) experiments
via the processes and . We further calculate the production cross sections of the
processes and . We find that the signatures of the neutral top-pion
can be detected via these processes.Comment: Latex file, 13 Pages, 6 eps figures. to be published in Phys.Rev.
Reconsidering the galactic coordinate system
Initially defined by the IAU in 1958, the galactic coordinate system was
thereafter in 1984 transformed from the B1950.0 FK4-based system to the J2000.0
FK5-based system. In 1994, the IAU recommended that the dynamical reference
system FK5 be replaced by the ICRS, which is a kinematical non-rotating system
defined by a set of remote radio sources. However the definition of the
galactic coordinate system was not updated. We consider that the present
galactic coordinates may be problematic due to the unrigorous transformation
method from the FK4 to the FK5, and due to the non-inertiality of the FK5
system with respect to the ICRS. This has led to some confusions in
applications of the galactic coordinates. We tried to find the transformation
matrix in the framework of the ICRS after carefully investigating the
definition of the galactic coordinate system and transformation procedures,
however we could not find a satisfactory galactic coordinate system that is
connected steadily to the ICRS. To avoid unnecessary misunderstandings, we
suggest to re-consider the definition of the galactic coordinate system which
should be directly connected with the ICRS for high precise observation at
micro-arcsecond level.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figures, accepted for publication in A&
Quantum fluctuations of polarons on molecules
The dynamic Jahn-Teller splitting of the six equivalent polarons due
to quantum fluctuations is studied in the framework of the Bogoliubov-de Gennes
formalism. The tunneling induced level splittings are determined to be and for and
, respectively, which should give rise to observable effects in
experiments.Comment: REVTEX 3.0, 13 pages, to be published in Phys. Rev.
The Impact of Non-Equipartition on Cosmological Parameter Estimation from Sunyaev-Zel'dovich Surveys
The collisionless accretion shock at the outer boundary of a galaxy cluster
should primarily heat the ions instead of electrons since they carry most of
the kinetic energy of the infalling gas. Near the accretion shock, the density
of the intracluster medium is very low and the Coulomb collisional timescale is
longer than the accretion timescale. Electrons and ions may not achieve
equipartition in these regions. Numerical simulations have shown that the
Sunyaev-Zel'dovich observables (e.g., the integrated Comptonization parameter
Y) for relaxed clusters can be biased by a few percent. The Y-mass relation can
be biased if non-equipartition effects are not properly taken into account.
Using a set of hydrodynamical simulations, we have calculated three potential
systematic biases in the Y-mass relations introduced by non-equipartition
effects during the cross-calibration or self-calibration when using the galaxy
cluster abundance technique to constraint cosmological parameters. We then use
a semi-analytic technique to estimate the non-equipartition effects on the
distribution functions of Y (Y functions) determined from the extended
Press-Schechter theory. Depending on the calibration method, we find that
non-equipartition effects can induce systematic biases on the Y functions, and
the values of the cosmological parameters Omega_8, sigma_8, and the dark energy
equation of state parameter w can be biased by a few percent. In particular,
non-equipartition effects can introduce an apparent evolution in w of a few
percent in all of the systematic cases we considered. Techniques are suggested
to take into account the non-equipartition effect empirically when using the
cluster abundance technique to study precision cosmology. We conclude that
systematic uncertainties in the Y-mass relation of even a few percent can
introduce a comparable level of biases in cosmological parameter measurements.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figures, accepted for publication in the Astrophysical
