An Integral Theory Perspective on the Firm
We propose that Ken Wilber’s (2000) integral theory can serve as a new paradigm by which to view the organization and present a broader view of the roles and responsibilities of business. Through an integral theory of the firm, we see individual desires, capabilities and limitations, economic profit and humanitarian interest working in synergy to maximize firm performance. This holistic approach is innovative and is presented as a way to redefine the existence, boundaries, and organization of the firm and to show how organizations can become more ecologically sustainable, socially responsible, and economically competitive. An integral theory of the firm allows metatriangulation of various theoretical approaches, simultaneous consideration of multiple levels of analysis, simultaneous pursuit of market and non-market strategies, and challenges existing paradigms

Delayed-type hypersensitivity and hepatitis B vaccine responses, in vivo markers of cellular and humoral immune function, and the risk of AIDS or death
Background: Delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) test responsiveness is associated with HIV disease progression; however it is unknown whether other immune markers, such as hepatitis B virus (HBV) vaccine seroresponse, also predict HIV outcomes. Methods: Eligible participants received HBV vaccine after HIV diagnosis, had non-anergic DTH testing at the time of last HBV vaccination, and available post-vaccine HBV antibody responses. The risk of progression to AIDS or death from the time of last HBV vaccination was evaluated. Results: Of 369 eligible participants with non-anergic DTH responses, 148 (40%) were HBV vaccine responders. In a multivariate model adjusted for age, CD4 count, viral load, and number of vaccinations, HBV vaccine non-responders had an increased risk of progression to AIDS or death (HR 1.81; 95% CI, 1.03–3.19). Conclusions: HBV vaccine seroresponses were independent of DTH responses which suggest that nonresponse to HBV vaccine is not solely due to cell-mediated immune dysfunction in HIV-infected persons

A theoretical study of non-adiabatic surface effects for a model in the NTF cryogenic wind tunnel
A theoretical analysis was made of the severity and effect of nonadiabatic surface conditions for a model in the NTF cryogenic wind tunnel. The nonadiabatic condition arises from heaters that are used to maintain a constant thermal environment for instrumentation internal to the model. The analysis was made for several axi-symmetric representations of a fuselage cavity, using a finite element heat conduction code. Potential flow and boundary layer codes were used to calculate the convection condition for the exterior surface of the model. The results of the steady state analysis show that it is possible to maintain the surface temperature very near the adiabatic value, with the judicious use of insulating material. Even for the most severe nonadiabatic condition studied, the effects on skin friction drag and displacement thickness were only marginally significant. The thermal analysis also provided an estimate of the power required to maintain a specified cavity temperature
An experimental and computational investigation of structure and magnetism in pyrite CoFeS: Chemical bonding and half-metallicity
Bulk samples of the pyrite chalcogenide solid solutions CoFeS
0 <= x <= 0.5, have been prepared and their crystal structures and magnetic
properties studied by X-ray diffraction and SQUID magnetization measurements.
Across the solution series, the distance between sulfur atoms in the persulfide
(S) unit remains nearly constant. First principles electronic
structure calculations using experimental crystal structures as inputs point to
the importance of this constant S-S distance, in helping antibonding S-S levels
pin the Fermi energy. In contrast hypothetical rock-salt CoS is not a good half
metal, despite being nearly isostructural and isoelectronic. We use our
understanding of the CoFeS system to make some prescriptions
