Dirichlet's and Thomson's principles for non-selfadjoint elliptic operators with application to non-reversible metastable diffusion processes
We present two variational formulae for the capacity in the context of
non-selfadjoint elliptic operators. The minimizers of these variational
problems are expressed as solutions of boundary-value elliptic equations. We
use these principles to provide a sharp estimate for the transition times
between two different wells for non-reversible diffusion processes. This
estimate permits to describe the metastable behavior of the system
Metastability of non-reversible mean-field Potts model with three spins
We examine a non-reversible, mean-field Potts model with three spins on a set
with points. Without an external field, there are three
critical temperatures and five different metastable regimes. The analysis can
be extended by a perturbative argument to the case of small external fields. We
illustrate the case of large external fields with some phenomena which are not
present in the absence of external field.Comment: 34 pages, 12 figure
Topological mass generation to antisymmetric tensor matter field
We propose a mechanism to give mass to tensor matter field which preserve the
U(1) symmetry. We introduce a complex vector field that couples with the tensor
in a topological term. We also analyze the influence of the kinetic terms of
the complex vector in our mechanism.Comment: 5 pages, to appear in Europhysics Letter
Lagrangian phase transitions in nonequilibrium thermodynamic systems
In previous papers we have introduced a natural nonequilibrium free energy by
considering the functional describing the large fluctuations of stationary
nonequilibrium states. While in equilibrium this functional is always convex,
in nonequilibrium this is not necessarily the case. We show that in
nonequilibrium a new type of singularities can appear that are interpreted as
phase transitions. In particular, this phenomenon occurs for the
one-dimensional boundary driven weakly asymmetric exclusion process when the
drift due to the external field is opposite to the one due to the external
reservoirs, and strong enough.Comment: 10 pages, 2 figure

Stochastic interacting particle systems out of equilibrium
This paper provides an introduction to some stochastic models of lattice
gases out of equilibrium and a discussion of results of various kinds obtained
in recent years. Although these models are different in their microscopic
features, a unified picture is emerging at the macroscopic level, applicable,
in our view, to real phenomena where diffusion is the dominating physical
mechanism. We rely mainly on an approach developed by the authors based on the
study of dynamical large fluctuations in stationary states of open systems. The
outcome of this approach is a theory connecting the non equilibrium
thermodynamics to the transport coefficients via a variational principle. This
leads ultimately to a functional derivative equation of Hamilton-Jacobi type
for the non equilibrium free energy in which local thermodynamic variables are
the independent arguments. In the first part of the paper we give a detailed
introduction to the microscopic dynamics considered, while the second part,
devoted to the macroscopic properties, illustrates many consequences of the
Hamilton-Jacobi equation. In both parts several novelties are included.Comment: 36 page
Quantum Scalar Field in D-dimensional de Sitter Spacetimes
In this work we investigate the quantum theory of scalar fields propagating
in a dimensional de Sitter spacetime. The method of dynamic invariants is
used to obtain the solution of the time-dependent Schr\"odinger equation. The
quantum behavior of the scalar field in this background is analyzed, and the
results generalize previous ones found in the literature. We point that the
Bunch-Davies thermal bath depends on the choice of and the conformal
parameter . This is important in extra dimension physics, as in the
Randall-Sundrum model.Comment: 9 page
Classes of exact wavefunctions for general time-dependent Dirac Hamiltonians in 1+1 dimensions
In this work we construct two classes of exact solutions for the most general
time-dependent Dirac Hamiltonian in 1+1 dimensions. Some problems regarding to
some formal solutions in the literature are discussed. Finally the existence of
a generalized Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant connected with such solutions is
discussed
