    The Green AI Ontology: An Ontology for Modeling the Energy Consumption of AI Models

    Modeling AI systems’ characteristics of energy consumption and their sustainability level as an extension of the FAIR data principles has been considered only rudimentarily. In this paper, we propose the Green AI Ontology for modeling the energy consumption and other environmental aspects of AI models. We evaluate our ontology based on competency questions. Our ontology is available at https://w3id.org/ Green-AI-Ontology and can be used in a variety of scenarios, ranging from comprehensive research data management to strategic controlling of institutions and environmental efforts in politics

    The data set knowledge graph: Creating a linked open data source for data sets

    Several scholarly knowledge graphs have been proposed to model and analyze the academic landscape. However, although the number of data sets has increased remarkably in recent years, these knowledge graphs do not primarily focus on data sets but rather on associated entities such as publications. Moreover, publicly available data set knowledge graphs do not systematically contain links to the publications in which the data sets are mentioned. In this paper, we present an approach for constructing an RDF knowledge graph that fulfills these mentioned criteria. Our data set knowledge graph, DSKG, is publicly available at http://dskg.org and contains metadata of data sets for all scientific disciplines. To ensure high data quality of the DSKG, we first identify suitable raw data set collections for creating the DSKG. We then establish links between the data sets and publications modeled in the Microsoft Academic Knowledge Graph that mention these data sets. As the author names of data sets can be ambiguous, we develop and evaluate a method for author name disambiguation and enrich the knowledge graph with links to ORCID. Overall, our knowledge graph contains more than 2,000 data sets with associated properties, as well as 814,000 links to 635,000 scientific publications. It can be used for a variety of scenarios, facilitating advanced data set search systems and new ways of measuring and awarding the provisioning of data sets

    Seven new and two resurveyed stratigraphic sections through the important carbonate-BIF transition in Griqualand West are presented and compared with six published sections. Lateral correlation within this zone is attempted but the variability was found to be too great for meaningful subdivision. Substantial lithological irregularity is the only unifying character of this zone, for which the new name Finsch Member (Formation) is proposed. Vertical and lateral lithological variations as well as chemical changes across this zone are discussed with reference to environmental aspects. Local and regional considerations lead to the conclusion that fresh water-sea water mixing occurred in a shallowing basin

This lays the foundation for a quantum description of such systems, such as, for example an unstable cavity laser.     Friction of the surface plasmon by high-energy particle-hole pairs: Are memory effects important?

    We show that the dynamics of the surface plasmon in metallic nanoparticles damped by its interaction with particle-hole excitations can be modelled by a single degree of freedom coupled to an environment. In this approach, the fast decrease of the dipole matrix elements that couple the plasmon to particle-hole pairs with the energy of the excitation allows a separation of the Hilbert space into low- and high-energy subspaces at a characteristic energy that we estimate. A picture of the spectrum consisting of a collective excitation built from low-energy excitations which interacts with high-energy particle-hole states can be formalised. The high-energy excitations yield an approximate description of a dissipative environment (or "bath") within a finite confined system. Estimates for the relevant timescales establish the Markovian character of the bath dynamics with respect to the surface plasmon evolution for nanoparticles with a radius larger than about 1 nm.Comment: 8 pages, 1 figure; see also cond-mat/070372

    The existing Diamond Interchange at the crossing of the N1 with Sefako Makghato Drive (Route K14) in the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality was recently, in 2015, upgraded to a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI). The Diverging Diamond Interchange is one of the so-called alternative intersections based on innovative approaches to avoid or minimise opposing traffic flows. The paper presents the results of capacity and operational analyses by means of analytical techniques (SIDRA 7.0 Plus), and also evaluates the cost-effectiveness.
