Description and operation of a microwave reflectance measurement system
A recent effort at the NASA Lewis Research Center (LeRC), Microwave System Laboratory was to develop the capability to perform farfield reflectance measurements. This effort has resulted, to date, in a system that can perform X-band, monostatic, measurements of test objects. The system and the measurement procedure are described. Data are presented which assists in the evaluation of the quality of the measurements obtained with the system
Aperture taper determination for the half-scale accurate antenna reflector
A simulation is described of a proposed microwave reflectance measurement in which the half scale reflector is used in a compact range type of application. The simulation is used to determine an acceptable aperture taper for the reflector which will allow for accurate measurements. Information on the taper is used in the design of a feed for the reflector
Measured performance of the half-scale accurate antenna reflector
A corrugated horn was designed and fabricated for use as a feed for the half-scale accurate antenna reflector. This feed allows the reflector to be used in a compact range configuration as part of a microwave reflectance measuring system. The horn design is described, and the measured farfield patterns of the horn are presented. The horn was installed at the focus of the reflector, and the nearfield of the antenna was measured. The results of these measurements are presented and discussed with respect to the compact range application
Contractile properties of fibroblasts derived from primary frozen shoulder and effects of TGF beta 1 stimulation
INTRODUCTION: Primary Frozen Shoulder (PFS) is a debilitating disease of unknown aetiology. There is fibrosis and contracture of the coracohumeral ligament, tissues of the rotator interval and the glenohumeral ligaments, leading to restrictive shoulder movements requiring surgical intervention [1]. Frozen shoulder has been postulated to be dupuytren’s disease of the shoulder with an association inferred since 1936. The purpose of the study was to test the hypothesis that cellular mechanisms of fibroblasts derived from primary frozen shoulder exhibited similar activity in terms of contraction and response to cytokine (transforming growth factor beta1) to fibroblasts derived from dupuytren’s disease. Understanding of cellular responses is critical to developing non surgical treatment strategies
Negative 4-Probe Conductances of Mesoscopic Superconducting Wires
We analyze the longitudinal 4-probe conductance of mesoscopic normal and
superconducting wires and predict that in the superconducting case, large
negative values can arise for both the weakly disordered and localized regimes.
This contrasts sharply with the behaviour of the longitudinal 4-probe
conductance of normal wires, which in the localized limit is always

Crossed conductance in FSF double junctions: role of out-of-equilibrium populations
We discuss a model of Ferromagnet / Superconductor / Ferromagnet (FSF) double
junction in which the quasiparticles are not in equilibrium with the condensate
in a region of the superconductor containing the two FS contacts. The role of
geometry is discussed, as well as the role of a small residual density of
states within the superconducting gap, that allows a sequential tunneling
crossed current. With elastic quasiparticle transport and the geometry with
lateral contacts, the crossed conductances in the sequential tunneling channel
are almost equal in the normal and superconducting phases, if the distance
between the FS interfaces is sufficiently small. The sequential tunneling and
spatially separated processes (the so-called crossed Andreev reflection and
elastic cotunneling processes) lead to different signs of the crossed current
in the antiparallel alignment for tunnel interfaces.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figure
Regionalism in World Agricultural Trade: Lessons from Gravity Model Estimation
Relative to trade in non-agricultural goods, progress in achieving agricultural trade liberalization under the GATT/WTO has been slow. Agricultural trade is characterized by persistently high levels of protection on a scale that is uncommon in non-agricultural trade. Article XXIV of the GATT, 1994 permits a group of countries to form a trade union whereby trade barriers are reduced or removed on all sectors of trade. Within regional trade agreements however, agricultural trade often receives special treatment, and in some cases, agriculture is completely exempt. Typically, debates over the effects of regional trade agreements have focused on welfare. When do weak-coupling approaches accurately capture the dynamics of complex quantum systems?
Understanding the dynamics of higher-dimensional quantum systems embedded in
a complex environment remains a significant theoretical challenge. While
several approaches yielding numerically converged solutions exist, these are
computationally expensive and often provide only limited physical insight. Here
we address the question when more intuitive and simpler to compute
weak-coupling approaches still provide adequate accuracy. We develop a simple
analytical criterion and verify its validity for the case of the much-studied

Dynamic power load simulator
Two independent models simulate dynamic and steady-state responses of electrical and electronic equipment under power load. One is resistance/capacitance/inductance network, and the other is variable resistance analog device.
