    New Multiphase CP and DP 1000 MPa strength level grades for improved performance after hot forming

    Pure martensitic steels have after hot forming limited performance in terms of rest ductility which limits the application in crash relevant parts. New steel grades were designed in the EU project HOTFORM including the corresponding process routes. These steel grades have ferritic-martensitic dual phase (DP) and martensitic-bainitic complex phase (CP) microstructures after hot forming process. The laboratory tests show an improved formability after hot forming. The basic concepts of the new alloys are explained. Furthermore, for validation of upscaling purposes a semi-industrial test is carried out and the results are discussed. The main application is for vehicle safety. This is evaluated by comparing the crash performance of these hot formed grades with cold rolled DP1000 and CP1000 for crash cans in a drop tower test.The research leading to these results was carried out in the framework of HOTFORM project with a financial grant of the Research Programme RFCS (Research Funds for Coal and Steel) under grant agreement (RFSR-CT-2015-00017)

    Well-Being of Families with a Child with Profound Intellectual and Multiple Disabilities

    In disability research, there is an increased focus on the well-being of families with a child with a disability, also known as family quality of life (FQOL). However, the well-being of families with a child with profound intellectual and multiple disabilities (PIMD) has not yet been explored, even though their well-being may be affected by the pervasive support needs they need to manage. In turn, sufficient well-being of the family is necessary to guarantee adequate support and thus well-being for the person with PIMD. The purpose of this study was to examine the well-being of families with a child with PIMD, including possible differences between parents and siblings, and how individual and familial factors are related to FQOL. A total of 82 participants from 44 families with a child with PIMD in the Netherlands participated. Multilevel models were employed to analyze FQOL scores and which factors significantly affected scores. Families scored moderately high on both total score and subscales, scoring lowest on emotional well-being. There were significant differences between parents and siblings and a significant effect of age of the respondent on emotional well-being, material well-being, and disability-related support. Siblings scored higher than parents, and scores decreased with age on these domains. Although families with a child with PIMD scored, on average, satisfactory on their FQOL, they were least satisfied with the support for their emotional well-being, and may therefore require additional support for this aspect of their family life. Results of this study contribute to understanding the lives of families with a child with PIMD and their support needs

    Clinical Characteristics of COPD Patients According to COPD Assessment Test (CAT) Score Level: Cross-Sectional Study.

    Purpose: The chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) assessment test (CAT) is widely used to assess the impact of COPD symptoms on health status. Whilst the CAT consists of eight different items, details on the distribution of each item are limited. This study aimed to investigate the distribution and clinical implication of each CAT item, stratified by CAT severity group, in stable COPD patients. Patients and Methods: This was a cross-sectional study at a single referral hospital in South Korea. Spirometry confirmed COPD patients with CAT measured at the first clinical visit were retrospectively identified. Patients were categorized into three groups: low (0 ≤ CAT < 10), medium (10 ≤ CAT < 20), and high (20 ≤ CAT ≤ 40) impact group. For the purpose of this analysis, the first four items (cough, sputum, chest tightness, and dyspnea) and the remaining four items (activities, confidence, sleep and energy) were also grouped as "pulmonary" and "extra-pulmonary", respectively. Results: A total of 815 patients were included, and mean (SD) forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1) was 62.8 (17.4) % pred. Among them, 300 patients (36.8%) were in the high impact group and had a greater exacerbation history and lower lung function. The proportion of "extra-pulmonary" items score was greater in patients with higher total CAT scores, with the activity and confidence items showing higher scores. Conclusion: In our study, in addition to dyspnea, activity limitation is a particular problem in individual patients with higher CAT total scores, for which physicians need to pay more attention. Our study suggests that whilst CAT total score captures the overall impact of COPD, each item of the CAT contains potentially useful information in understanding the patient's symptom burden
