The subject in (of) the collective health and postmodernism

Taking into account the influence of postmodernist approach in the academic production of social medicine and collective health in the last years, when the importance of authors like Michel Foucault is remarkable; one intend to dialogue with that kind of production specially because the so-called end of man as the subject of History; and because the importance of the categories discourse, gender, ethnic, sexuality, in consequence of searching new identities and fragmentation of reality introduced by that approach, in order to counteract the idea of totality brought by the Marxist approach. The goal is to rescue the idea of subject updating the notion and the concept of social class, in a totality perspective, considering the world reality marked by the globalization, as the imposed on model that must be faced by a strategy that overcome the fragmented reality as it is seeing by the postmodernist agenda and rescue to the scene the social classes, updated in a globalized capitalism, while the subject inside the social thinking in (of) the collective health.Considerando a influência que a abordagem pós-modernista tem exercido na produção acadêmica da medicina social e da saúde coletiva nos últimos anos, quando a referência de autores como Foucault é marcante, busca-se dialogar com tal produção particularmente em função do descentramento do homem como sujeito da história; da importância assumida por categorias como discurso, gênero, etnia e sexualidade, em conseqüência da busca de novas identidades e da fragmentação da realidade introduzida por aquela abordagem, em contrapartida com a idéia de totalidade proposta pela abordagem marxista. The Workers' Health field: reclaiming knowledge and practices in the interface between work and health

Quality of life of/at work: a political and polysemic concept

In this paper we aim to draw attention to the historicity and the polysemy of the concept of Quality of Life at (of) work (QWL), or rather, Quality of Work (QW) and its political nature, as it involves contradictory class interests, with the idea of placing it at a level of discussion that questions the 'clinical' approach commonly adopted by capital and that designates individuals´ change of' habits as the main strategy. Thus, the discussion shifts to the category 'control' over the work processes in the point of view of workers' collectives allowing a relation between the concept and the notion that achieving QWL involves a political struggle that is originates from the correlation of the capital-labor strengths in concrete societies. In this sense, even if it is deemed incompatible to think of QWL as a reality of precarious work (and rights), this article advocates that the introduction of another 'vision' concerning this issue, which also has a strong political and counter-hegemonic character, can contribute to addressing the 'speech' and the skills that come along with it, the ones which are defended as being 'the' model approach of QWL by businesses and the intellectuals from the academy that advise them.Neste texto objetiva-se chamar atenção para a historicidade e a polissemia do conceito de Qualidade de Vida n(d)o trabalho (QVT) ou, melhor dizendo, Qualidade do Trabalho (QT) e seu caráter político, na medida em que envolve interesses de classe contraditórios; na perspectiva de colocá-lo num patamar de discussão que questiona a abordagem 'clínica' comumente adotada pelo capital e que coloca como principal estratégia a mudança de 'hábitos' dos indivíduos. Assim, desloca-se a discussão para a categoria 'controle' sobre os processos de trabalho, na perspectiva dos coletivos de trabalhadores, o que permite articular o conceito à noção de que atingir a QVT envolve um embate político que é dado pela correlação de forças capital-trabalho, em sociedades concretas. Neste sentido, mesmo que se considere incompatível pensar em QVT numa realidade de precariedade do trabalho (e de direitos), advoga-se que a introdução no debate de um outro 'olhar' sobre a questão, o qual também tem um forte caráter político, contra-hegemônico, pode contribuir para o enfrentamento do 'discurso único' e da prática a ele acoplada, as quais são defendidas como sendo 'o' modelo de abordagem da QVT por parte das empresas e dos intelectuais da própria academia que as assessoram.Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP) Departamento de Medicina PreventivaUNIFESP, Depto. de Medicina PreventivaSciEL

Quality working life and health/illness

Using as starting point the discussion of many concepts of the term Quality Working Life (QWL) is assumed the idea of priority to changes in working organization and worker's participation, like pointed out the International Program on Bettering Working Conditions and Labor Environment, proposed by International Labor Organization (ILO), in 1976. Are pointed the limits of QWL in a reality like the Brazilian, where democracy in working places is still so fragile. Besides, vis-à-vis Taylorism/ Fordism, are discussed the changes in the organization of working process that occur in the QWL within the process of job redesign, pointing the necessity to think about epidemiological indicators that show the relationships health/ illness and the new ways of management and organization of the productive process, represented by the working related diseases, whose nexus with working process has a more complex causality.A partir da discussão das noções que assumiu a Qualidade de Vida no Trabalho (QVT), priorizou-se a que valoriza as mudanças na organização do trabalho, a participação dos trabalhadores, conforme o Programa Internacional para o Melhoramento das Condições e dos Ambientes de Trabalho (PIACT), da Organização Internacional do Trabalho (OIT), 1976. Diante da escolha, são apontados os limites da QVT na nossa realidade, em que a democracia nos locais de trabalho é ainda frágil. Workers health: new-old questions

This theoretical paper for debate presents three crucial questions about the workers health subject: (a) the absence of a National Policy that gives a conceptual fundament, guides for implementation, strategies and plans for action and evaluation of its effectivity; (b) fragmentation and dispersion of the scientific production of the area, defaulting the important contribution that the academic sector could offer for fundament the action of health policy makers, social movements, executives and professionals of the area; (c) weakness and low capacity of social movements and workers representative groups, in the actual crises resulted of the productive restructuring, to formulate qualified demands for respond with adequate instruments the contemporary problems of the workers situation in Brazil. The method used to construct this article was a critical revision of the official documents and of the scientific production of the area named in Brazil as workers health movement. They founded the analyses and the emergent questions. The theoretical basis comes from the literature about productive restructuring in Brazil, mainly that who treats about its worse effects in the health of working class population; and classic texts that articulate the workers' health knowledge field.Como artigo para debate, este texto apresenta três questões consideradas cruciais pelos autores: (a) ausência de uma efetiva Política Nacional de Saúde do Trabalhador que coloque um marco conceitual claro, apresente diretrizes de implementação e proponha estratégias e planos de ação e de avaliação para efetivá-la; (b) fragmentação e dispersão da produção científica da área, prejudicando a importante colaboração que a Academia poderia oferecer para fundamentar as necessidades dos agentes políticos, movimentos sociais, gestores e profissionais de saúde; (c) enfraquecimento e pouca capacidade de pressão dos movimentos sociais e dos trabalhadores, evidenciando a falta de qualificação das demandas, diante dos desafios do momento presente do mundo do trabalho no Brasil. O método deste trabalho consistiu na revisão crítica de documentos e publicações da área a fim de fundamentar o tom do debate e as questões levantadas.
