    Get PDF
The present study core issue is, how do today's youth judge adults concerning their moral criteria? The issue is twofold relevant for the ethical and moral education of adolescents, both for knowledge on their moral development and for their apparent desertion from the public sphere, favouring the private one. This study aimed at knowing how youth judge adults on moral grounds, while verifying whether youth do clearly separate public and private spheres. Two different surveys were carried out: survey 1 (S1) with 520 students who answered a 24-item closed questionnaire plus two open-ended questions; in S2 a 14-item questionnaire was applied to 36 students, followed by group debate on the issue. This article analyses issues dealt with at both surveys, as well as issues only inquired on at S1. Results show some mistrust among youth toward adult morality. Most don't consider them ethical and, in general, criticise the way they conduct the public sphere. Furthermore, they question adults' virtues, deeming egoism or self-interest to be their worse defect, associated to their sole concern with the private sphere. The adolescents were divided as to wisdom, accountability, and trust assigned to adults. Nevertheless, the image they present of their elders is relativised, according to whether they refer to public or private sphere adults.

Apoptotic HPV Positive Cancer Cells Exhibit Transforming Properties

Previous studies have shown that DNA can be transferred from dying engineered cells to neighboring cells through the phagocytosis of apoptotic bodies, which leads to cellular transformation. Here, we provide evidence of an uptake of apoptotic-derived cervical cancer cells by human mesenchymal cells. Interestingly, HeLa (HPV 18+) or Ca Ski (HPV16+) cells, harboring integrated high-risk HPV DNA but not C-33 A cells (HPV-), were able to transform the recipient cells. Human primary fibroblasts engulfed the apoptotic bodies effectively within 30 minutes after co-cultivation. This mechanism is active and involves the actin cytoskeleton. In situ hybridization of transformed fibroblasts revealed the presence of HPV DNA in the nucleus of a subset of phagocytosing cells. These cells expressed the HPV16/18 E6 gene, which contributes to the disruption of the p53/p21 pathway, and the cells exhibited a tumorigenic phenotype, including an increased proliferation rate, polyploidy and anchorage independence growth. Such horizontal transfer of viral oncogenes to surrounding cells that lack receptors for HPV could facilitate the persistence of the virus, the main risk factor for cervical cancer development. This process might contribute to HPV-associated disease progression in vivo

Envoyé en fabrication en novembre 2009 et reçu au laboratoire en février 2010, ce nouveau prototype PARISROC 2 a été testé en laboratoire et l analyse a montré un comportement général correct et la réalisation des modifications apportées.PMm is a project founded for three years by the French National Agency for Research (ANR) with the complete title: Innovative electronics for photo-detectors array used in high energy physics and astroparticles . The project proposes to segment the large surface of photo-detection in macro pixel consisting of an array of 16 PMTs of 12-inches (2*2 m ), connected to an autonomous front-end electronics which works in a triggerless data acquisition mode placed near the array. This is possible thanks to the microelectronics progress that allows to integrate the read out and the signal processing, of all the photomultipliers, in the same circuit (ASIC) named PARISROC (Photomultiplier ARray Integrated in SiGe Read Out Chip). The ASIC must send out only the digital data by network to the surface central data storage. The PARISROC Chip, made in AMS 0.35 m technology, integrates 16 independent channels for each PMTs of the array, providing charge and time measurements. The first prototype of PARISROC chip has a total surface of 19 mm . It has been sent for fabrication in June 2008 to AMS foundry (AustriaMicroSystems) through the CMP (Multi Project Center) and received in December 2008. The ASIC measurements have led to the realization of a second prototype. Important measurements were brought in terms of noise, dynamic range, read out frequency (from 10 MHz to 40 MHz), time measurements (TDC improvements) and charge measurements (Slow shaper improvements). Sent for fabrication in November 2009 and received in February 2010, this new prototype PARISROC 2 has been tested and the characterisation has shown a good overall behavior and the verification of the improvements.ORSAY-PARIS 11-BU Sciences (914712101) / SudocSudocFranceF
