    A new species of cosmocercoides (Nematoda; cosmocercidae) and other helminths in leptodactylus latrans (anura; leptodactylidae) from Argentina

    Cosmocercoides latrans n. sp. (Cosmocercidae) from the small intestine of Leptodactylus latrans (Anura: Leptodactylidae) from Northeastern Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina is described. The new species can be distinguished from their congeners by a combination of the characters, among which stands out the number of rosette papillae, the lack of gubernaculum and the presence of lateral alae in both sexes. There are over 20 species in the genus Cosmocercoides, and Cosmocercoides latrans n. sp. represents the third species from the Neotropical realm and the second for Argentina. Additionally, seven previously known taxa are reported; Pseudoacanthocephalus cf. lutzi, Catadiscus uruguayensis, Rauschiella palmipedis, Aplectana hylambatis, Cosmocerca parva, Schrankiana sp. and Rhabdias elegans; providing literature records and information on distribution and host-parasite relationships.Fil: Draghi, Regina.     The aim of this paper is to increase the knowledge on the diversity of digenean parasites in ophidians andanurans from northeastern Argentina. Specimens of the snakes Eunectes notaeus, Hydrodynastes gigas, Micrurus corallinus,Philodryas sp. and Sibynomorphus sp., and the anurans Rhinella schneideri, Phyllomedusa azurea and Leptodactylus latranswere examined. Twelve digenean species were identified: Catadiscus corderoi Mañé-Garzón, 1958, Catadiscus dolichocotyle(Cohn, 1903), Catadiscus uruguayensis Freitas & Lent, 1939, Choledocystus elegans (Travassos, 1926), Gorgoderina parvicavaTravassos, 1922, Haplometroides buccicola Odhner, 1911, Heterodiplostomum lanceolatum Dubois, 1936, Infidum similisTravassos, 1916, Mesocoelium monas (Rudolphi, 1819), Plagiorchis luehei (Travassos, 1927), Telorchis clava (Diesing, 1850)and Travtrema stenocotyle (Cohn, 1902).     Se redescribe e ilustra a Neodiplostomum travassosi Dubois, 1937 (Diplostomidae: Diplostominae) con base en ejemplares recolectados del intestino de Polyborus plancus (Miller) (Falconidae) y Phalacrocorax brasilianus (Gmelin) (Phalacrocoracidae), capturados en la provincia de Formosa, Argentina. La descripción original de esta especie está basada en ejemplares recolectados de Strigiformes y Piciformes de Brasil. La morfología y dimensiones de los ejemplares estudiados en este trabajo concuerdan con la descripción original. Este hallazgo permite acrecentar la lista de hospederos y efectuar un nuevo registro geográfico para esta especie

    First report of helminth parasitizing Trachycephalus typhonius (Anura: Hylidae) from northeastern Argentina

    AbstractTwo species of nematodes, Rhabdias cf. elegans (Rhabdiasidae) and Aplectana hylambatis (Cosmocercidae), were recovered from the lungs and intestine of Trachycephalus typhonius (Anura: Hylidae) captured in Formosa Province, Argentina. Morphological and morphometric data of both species are provided, and previous records of Rhabdias spp. in the Neotropical region are summarized. The finding of Rhabdias cf. elegans constitutes the first record of this genus in the Formosa Province, and the finding of A. hylambatis represents the first record of this species as a parasite of hylid frogs, and the first report in Formosa Province. Trachycephalus typhonius represents a new host for both parasites
