Partition functions and elliptic genera from supergravity
We develop the spacetime aspects of the computation of partition functions
for string/M-theory on AdS(3) xM. Subleading corrections to the semi-classical
result are included systematically, laying the groundwork for comparison with
CFT partition functions via the AdS(3)/CFT(2) correspondence. This leads to a
better understanding of the "Farey tail" expansion of Dijkgraaf et. al. from
the point of view of bulk physics. Besides clarifying various issues, we also
extend the analysis to the N=2 setting with higher derivative effects included.Comment: 34 page

General 2 charge geometries
Two charge BPS horizon free supergravity geometries are important in
proposals for understanding black hole microstates. In this paper we construct
a new class of geometries in the NS1-P system, corresponding to solitonic
strings carrying fermionic as well as bosonic condensates. Such geometries are
required to account for the full microscopic entropy of the NS1-P system. We
then briefly discuss the properties of the corresponding geometries in the dual
D1-D5 system.Comment: 44 page
No entropy enigmas for N=4 dyons
We explain why multi-centered black hole configurations where at least one of
the centers is a large black hole do not contribute to the indexed degeneracies
in theories with N=4 supersymmetry. This is a consequence of the fact that such
configurations, although supersymmetric, belong to long supermultiplets. As a
result, there is no entropy enigma in N=4 theories, unlike in N=2 theories.Comment: 14 page
The Analyticity of a Generalized Ruelle's Operator
In this work we propose a generalization of the concept of Ruelle operator
for one dimensional lattices used in thermodynamic formalism and ergodic
optimization, which we call generalized Ruelle operator, that generalizes both
the Ruelle operator proposed in [BCLMS] and the Perron Frobenius operator
defined in [Bowen]. We suppose the alphabet is given by a compact metric space,
and consider a general a-priori measure to define the operator. We also
consider the case where the set of symbols that can follow a given symbol of
the alphabet depends on such symbol, which is an extension of the original
concept of transition matrices from the theory of subshifts of finite type. We
prove the analyticity of the Ruelle operator and present some examples
Effect of levels of polymaleic acid on the structural stability of saline soils.
The effect of levels of polymaleic acid was studied on the structural stability of two saline soils exposed to intensive cultivation. Soil samples with undisturbed structure were collected and placed in containers where levels polymaleic acid (0, 10, 20 and 30L/ha) were applied diluted water, in order to raise the moisture up to field capacity. One week later, controlled drip irrigation was applied using a volume corresponding to the pluviometric precipitation of the areas where the samples were collected. The washed soil samples were taken from the containers with the objective of lowering the moisture and separating the aggregates, considering those which passed through a 4 mm sieve and were retained in a 2 mm sieve. From each soil type, four bags of aggregates weighting 1 kg were taken, received a second application of the same levels of the polymer diluted in the irrigation water, adjusting the moisture of the samples of aggregates to 80% of the field capacity. The plastic bags with the humid samples were weighted and closed to keep the moisture uniform. Three subsamples from each bag were taken every 30 days to determine the weighed mean diameter (WMD) of the aggregates up to 150 days. After washing the soil with distilled water, WMD of the aggregates was reduced in the two soil types, in different proportions. The highest levels caused a lower reduction on the stability grade, showing the role of the polymer on protection of the aggregates against disintegration. After 30 days of the second application of the polymer on washed aggregates, WMD started to increase differently for all the treatments, showing is effect on increasing structural stability of the soils
