Geometric stability conditions under autoequivalences and applications: Elliptic Surfaces

On a Weierstrass elliptic surface, we describe the action of the relative Fourier-Mukai transform on the geometric chamber of Stab(X)\mathrm{Stab}(X), and in the K3 case we also study the action on one of its boundary components. Using new estimates for the Gieseker chamber we prove that Gieseker stability for polarizations on certain Friedman chamber is preserved by the derived dual of the relative Fourier-Mukai transform. As an application of our description of the action, we also prove projectivity for some moduli spaces of Bridgeland semistable objects.Comment: 32 pages, comments welcome

Global corporate bond issuance: what role for US quantitative easing?

The paper investigates the impact of US quantitative easing (QE) on global non-financial corporate bond issuance. It distinguishes between two QE instruments, MBS/GSE debt and Treasury bonds, and disentangles between two channels of transmission of QE to global bond markets, namely flow effects (purchases) and stock effects (holdings). We control for a number of domestic and global macro-financial factors. In particular, we control for weaknesses in crossborder and domestic banking which might have induced the corporate sector to issue more bonds. The results indicate that US QE had a large impact on corporate bond issuance, especially in emerging markets, and that flow effects (i.e. portfolio rebalancing) were the main transmission channel of QE. A counterfactual analysis shows that bond issuance in emerging markets since 2009 would have been halved without QE

This paper aims to carry out a narrative review of the market and its possible failures commonly cited in mainstream economics texts and studies that, even when they argue against state interference in the economy, justify exceptions based on market failures. So, choosing one of the most commonly cited market failures - the externalities - this paper analyzes how this problem would be solved (and even not created) by the precise definition of private property rights and by the free market through theoretical review by mainstream economics authors and the Austrian School on markets, market failures, externalities, among others. Thus, making the rationale of mainstream economics evolve by correcting it through Austrian School praxeology and show that a market solution through precise private property rights to the problem of externalities is more efficient both in avoiding it and in solving it if it occurs.

Influences of postharvest storage and processing techniques on antioxidant and nutraceutical properties of rubus idaeus l.: A mini-review

The growth of agricultural mechanization has promoted an increase in raspberry production, and for this reason, the best postharvest storage and processing techniques capable of maintaining the health beneficial properties of these perishable berry fruits have been widely studied. Indeed, raspberries are a rich source of bioactive chemical compounds (e.g., ellagitannins, anthocyanins, and ascorbic acid), but these can be altered by postharvest storage and processing techniques before consumption. Although there are clear differences in storage times and techniques, the content of bioactive chemical compounds is relatively stable with some minor changes in ascorbic acid or anthocyanin content during cold (5◦C) or frozen storage. In the literature, processing techniques such as juicing or drying have negatively affected the content of bioactive chemical compounds. Among drying techniques, hot air (oven) drying is the process that alters the content of bioactive chemical compounds the most. For this reason, new drying technologies such as microwave and heat pumps have been developed. These novel techniques are more successful in retaining bioactive chemical compounds with respect to conventional hot air drying. This mini-review surveys recent literature concerning the effects of postharvest storage and processing techniques on raspberry bioactive chemical compound content

Faced with a world increasingly dynamic and flooded with information, it becomes difficult for the consumer to verify the quality of the foods and the process of it production. Localization of Fulicin-like Immunoreactivity in the Central Nervous System and Periphery of Biomphalaria glabrata, an Intermediate Host for Schistosomiasis

An estimate of about ten percent of the population worldwide live at risk of contracting the parasitic disease schistosomiasis, or “snail fever”. The digenetic trematode worm species Schistosoma mansoni that is responsible for causing the most common form of intestinal schistosomiasis requires the freshwater snail Biomphalaria glabrata to serve as its primary intermediate host, where it multiplies and develops into its cercarial form that is infectious to humans. Parasitic castration and parasitic gigantism are among some of the profound behavioral changes that the infection of B. glabrata by S. mansoni is known to cause. For this reason, a neural transcriptomics approach was undertaken to determine precursor prohormones that could encode neuropeptides implicated in Biomphalaria reproductive and feeding behaviors. A transcript (1616 nucleotides) was found to encode a putative precursor polypeptide (316 aminoacids) that could give way to the neuropeptide fulicin (Phe–D-Asn-Glu-Phe-Val-NH2; Ohta et al. 1991; Yasuma Kamatani et al. 1995) and five additional related peptides. For this investigation, affinity purified polyclonal antibodies (rabbit) were developed against the anticipated fulicin neuropeptide. Fulicin-like immunoreactivity was observed throughout the central nervous system (CNS) with distinct neurons and clusters on the ventral and dorsal surfaces, as well as in peripheral tissues. Fulicin-like cells of both large and small diameter were present on the dorsal and ventral surfaces of the buccal ganglion. In addition dispersed clusters of small diameter cells were observed in the cerebral and pedal ganglia. However, in the right pleural ganglion no fulicin-like neurons were present, although it was rich in immunoreactive fibers. Within the left parietal and visceral ganglia, clusters of large prominent cells appeared to give rise to axons projecting to the anal and intestinal nerves. Additionally, peripheral tissue of B. glabrata, specifically regions of the mantle, lip and tentacle were rich in fulicin-like immunoreactive fibers and cell bodies. These results suggest that fulicin and other peptides derived from the fulicin precursor could regulate behaviors related to food intake, reproduction, and growth that are altered during the course of infection in this host-parasite system

Spin-orbit torques for current parallel and perpendicular to a domain wall

We report field- and current-induced domain wall (DW) depinning experiments in Ta/Co20Fe60B20/MgO nanowires through a Hall cross geometry. While purely field-induced depinning shows no angular dependence on in-plane fields, the effect of the current depends crucially on the internal DW structure, which we manipulate by an external magnetic in-plane field. We show for the first time depinning measurements for a current sent parallel to the DW and compare its depinning efficiency with the conventional case of current flowing perpendicularly to the DW. We find that the maximum efficiency is similar for both current directions within the error bars, which is in line with a dominating damping-like spin-orbit torque (SOT) and indicates that no large additional torques arise for currents parallel to the DW. Finally, we find a varying dependence of the maximum depinning efficiency angle for different DWs and pinning levels. This emphasizes the importance of our full angular scans compared to previously used measurements for just two field directions (parallel and perpendicular to the DW) and shows the sensitivity of the spin-orbit torque to the precise DW structure and pinning sites.Comment: 11 pages, 3 figure
