The experience of sleep for women with borderline personality disorder: An occupational perspective
Introduction: Sleep difficulties are prevalent in borderline personality disorder (BPD); however, the experience of sleep for individuals with a diagnosis of BPD has not been considered from an occupational therapy perspective. Method: This study adopted a qualitative methodology. Semi-structured interviews were utilised to explore how sleep is experienced by four women with a diagnosis of BPD, in an inpatient setting. Interviews were recorded and transcribed verbatim. Findings: Through thematic analysis four themes were identified: âthere isnât a proper pattern or structure to my sleepsâ, âsleep is getting away for meâ, âbefore I came in [to the unit] my life-work balance was all chaoticâ and âI know the routine, but it doesnât really seem to affect meâ. These findings described the variety of problems experienced by participants in regards to sleep and the implications of sleep difficulties on occupational performance and participation. Conclusion: Women with BPD on an inpatient unit experienced a variety of sleep difficulties which impact on their ability to engage in occupations. Sleep and sleep difficulties should be explicitly addressed by occupational therapists and sleep interventions should be individually tailored; further research is required to examine occupational therapy interventions for sleep
Dealing with the difficult student in emergency medicine
Dealing with a student who is perceived as difficult to work with or teach is inevitable in any academic physician's career. This paper will outline the basic categories of these difficulties pertinent to Emergency Medicine rotations in order to facilitate appropriate identification of problems. Strategies for evaluation and reporting of the difficult student are presented. Remediation, based on the type of difficulty, is addressed. Timeliness of reporting, evaluation, and feedback are invaluable to allow for appropriate assessment of the outcome of the remediation plan
MTSS1 and SCAMP1 cooperate to prevent invasion in breast cancer
Cellâcell adhesions constitute the structural âglueâ that retains cells together and contributes to tissue organisation and physiological function. The integrity of these structures is regulated by extracellular and intracellular signals and pathways that act on the functional units of cell adhesion such as the cell adhesion molecules/adhesion receptors, the extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins and the cytoplasmic plaque/peripheral membrane proteins. In advanced cancer, these regulatory pathways are dysregulated and lead to cellâcell adhesion disassembly, increased invasion and metastasis. The Metastasis suppressor protein 1 (MTSS1) plays a key role in the maintenance of cellâcell adhesions and its loss correlates with tumour progression in a variety of cancers. However, the mechanisms that regulate its function are not well-known. Using a system biology approach, we unravelled potential interacting partners of MTSS1. We found that the secretory carrier-associated membrane protein 1 (SCAMP1), a molecule involved in post-Golgi recycling pathways and in endosome cell membrane recycling, enhances Mtss1 anti-invasive function in HER2+/ERâ/PRâ breast cancer, by promoting its protein trafficking leading to elevated levels of RAC1-GTP and increased cellâcell adhesions. This was clinically tested in HER2 breast cancer tissue and shown that loss of MTSS1 and SCAMP1 correlates with reduced disease-specific survival. In summary, we provide evidence of the cooperative roles of MTSS1 and SCAMP1 in preventing HER2+/ERâ/PRâ breast cancer invasion and we show that the loss of Mtss1 and Scamp1 results in a more aggressive cancer cell phenotype
Reviewing, indicating, and counting books for modern research evaluation systems
In this chapter, we focus on the specialists who have helped to improve the
conditions for book assessments in research evaluation exercises, with
empirically based data and insights supporting their greater integration. Our
review highlights the research carried out by four types of expert communities,
referred to as the monitors, the subject classifiers, the indexers and the
indicator constructionists. Many challenges lie ahead for scholars affiliated
with these communities, particularly the latter three. By acknowledging their
unique, yet interrelated roles, we show where the greatest potential is for
both quantitative and qualitative indicator advancements in book-inclusive
evaluation systems.Comment: Forthcoming in Glanzel, W., Moed, H.F., Schmoch U., Thelwall, M.

Observation of an Exotic Baryon in Exclusive Photoproduction from the Deuteron
In an exclusive measurement of the reaction , a
narrow peak that can be attributed to an exotic baryon with strangeness
is seen in the invariant mass spectrum. The peak is at
GeV/c with a measured width of 0.021 GeV/c FWHM, which is largely
determined by experimental mass resolution. The statistical significance of the
peak is . The mass and width of the observed peak are
consistent with recent reports of a narrow baryon by other experimental
groups.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure
Measurement of Beam-Spin Asymmetries for Deep Inelastic Electroproduction
We report the first evidence for a non-zero beam-spin azimuthal asymmetry in
the electroproduction of positive pions in the deep-inelastic region. Data have
been obtained using a polarized electron beam of 4.3 GeV with the CLAS detector
at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (JLab). The amplitude of
the modulation increases with the momentum of the pion relative to
the virtual photon, , with an average amplitude of for range.Comment: 5 pages, RevTEX4, 3 figures, 2 table
Measurement of the Polarized Structure Function for in the Resonance Region
The polarized longitudinal-transverse structure function
has been measured in the resonance region at and 0.65
GeV. Data for the reaction were taken at Jefferson Lab
with the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) using longitudinally
polarized electrons at an energy of 1.515 GeV. For the first time a complete
angular distribution was measured, permitting the separation of different
non-resonant amplitudes using a partial wave analysis. Comparison with previous
beam asymmetry measurements at MAMI indicate a deviation from the predicted
dependence of using recent phenomenological
models.Comment: 5 pages, LaTex, 4 eps figures: to be published in PRC/Rapid

Onset of asymptotic scaling in deuteron photodisintegration
We investigate the transition from the nucleon-meson to quark-gluon
description of the strong interaction using the photon energy dependence of the
differential cross section for photon energies above 0.5 GeV and
center-of-mass proton angles between and . A possible
signature for this transition is the onset of cross section scaling
with the total energy squared, , at some proton transverse momentum, .
The results show that the scaling has been reached for proton transverse
momentum above about 1.1 GeV/c. This may indicate that the quark-gluon regime
is reached above this momentum.Comment: Accepted by PRL; 5 pages, 2 figure
First Measurement of Transferred Polarization in the Exclusive e p --> e' K+ Lambda Reaction
The first measurements of the transferred polarization for the exclusive ep
--> e'K+ Lambda reaction have been performed in Hall B at the Thomas Jefferson
National Accelerator Facility using the CLAS spectrometer. A 2.567 GeV electron
beam was used to measure the hyperon polarization over a range of Q2 from 0.3
to 1.5 (GeV/c)2, W from 1.6 to 2.15 GeV, and over the full center-of-mass
angular range of the K+ meson. Comparison with predictions of hadrodynamic
models indicates strong sensitivity to the underlying resonance contributions.
A non-relativistic quark model interpretation of our data suggests that the
s-sbar quark pair is produced with spins predominantly anti-aligned.
Implications for the validity of the widely used 3P0 quark-pair creation
operator are discussed.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figure
