Structure and far-infrared edge modes of quantum antidots at zero magnetic field

    Get PDF
We have investigated edge modes of different multipolarity sustained by quantum antidots at zero magnetic field. The ground state of the antidot is described within a local density functional formalism. Two sum rules, which are exact within this formalism, have been derived and used to evaluate the energy of edge collective modes as a function of the surface density and the size of the antidot.Comment: Typeset using Revtex, 8 pages and 6 Postscript figure

Full Length Research Paper Curcumin induces cleavage of -catenin by activation of capases and downregulates the &#946-catenin/Tcf signaling pathway in HT-29 cells

β-Catenin/Tcf-4 signaling pathway plays important roles in colorectal tumorigenesis. RT-PCR, western blotting and immunoprecipitation were used to study the effects of curcumin on β-catenin/Tcf-4 signaling pathway in HT-29 cells. Treatment of curcumin could induce cleavage of β-catenin and the cleavage could be inhibited by caspase inhibitors. The association of β-catenin with Tcf-4 in nucleus could be inhibited by curcumin. The expression of c-myc and cyclinD1 was downregulated by curcumin, which could not be blocked by Z-DEVD-FMK. The results showed curcumin could induce thecleavage of β-catenin by activition of caspases and downregulate the activity of β-catenin/Tcf signaling pathway independent of the caspases in HT-29 cells

A comparison of acidic and enzymatic hydrolysis of rutin

    Get PDF
Rutin and its hydrolysis products (isoquercitrin and quercetin) are widely used as important materials in food and pharmaceutical industry. In this study, the effects of various acids and enzymes as catalysts on the hydrolysis reaction of rutin were studied. In comparison with acidic and enzymatic catalysis of rutin, the research results indicated that there was a sharp difference in the selectivity of hydrolysis product between the methods. When 2.5% H3PO4, 1% HCl and 0.5% H2SO4 were used as catalysts, transformation yields of isoquercitin hydrolyzed from rutin were 9.60, 0.69 and 1.25%, but those of quercetin were 11.13, 100 and 2.57%, respectively. When hesperidinase, snailase and cellulase-T2440 were used as catalysts, transformation yields of isoquercitin hydrolyzed from rutin were 43.21, 3.07 and 0.00%, but those of quercetin were 58.10, 96.39 and 30.89%, respectively. In conclusion, the aglycon of rutin was deglycosolated easily under mild acidic hydrolysis conditions at appropriate temperatures, but its secondary glucoside was difficult to be obtained. Contrarily, the prepared isoquercitrin by enzymatic hydrolysis of rutin was preferable to the acidic hydrolysis, especially for hesperidinase.Key words: Rutin, isoquercitrin, quercetin, hydrolysis, acid, enzym

Parents’ experiences of health visiting for children with Down syndrome

© MA Healthcare Limited.Children with Down syndrome have an increased likelihoodof experiencing serious health conditions. Health visitors canhave an important role in monitoring and promoting healthand development for young children with Down syndrome. This study aimed to explore parents’ experiences of healthvisiting services for children with Down syndrome. Twentyfour parents of children with Down syndrome aged 0–5 yearscompleted a brief questionnaire about the number and natureof visits from health visitors in the previous 12 months andtheir support needs. Some parents commented that otherprofessionals met the needs of their child, whereas others saidthat they would like more advice and support from healthvisitors. A further exploration of broader health serviceprovision, including health visiting, for young children withDown syndrome is needed.Peer reviewedFinal Accepted Versio

    Magnetoplasmons in quantum rings

    Get PDF
We have studied the structure and dipole charge density response of nanorings as a function of the magnetic field using local-spin density functional theory. Two small rings consisting of 12 and 22 electrons confined by a positively charged background are used to represent the cases of a narrow and a wide ring. The results are qualitatively compared with experimental data existing on microrings and on antidots. A smaller ring containing 5 electrons is also analyzed to allow for a closer comparison with a recent experiment on a two electron quantum ring.Comment: Typeset using Revtex, 13 pages and 11 Postscript figure

Surveillance and Genome Analysis of Human Bocavirus in Patients with Respiratory Infection in Guangzhou, China.

Human bocavirus (HBoV) is a novel parvovirus associated with respiratory tract diseases and gastrointestinal illness in adult and pediatric patients throughout the world. To investigate the epidemiological and genetic variation of HBoV in Guangzhou, South China, we screened 3460 throat swab samples from 1686 children and 1774 adults with acute respiratory infection symptoms for HBoV between March 2010 and February 2011, and analyzed the complete genome sequence of 2 HBoV strains. Specimens were screened for HBoV by real-time PCR and other 6 common respiratory viruses by RT-PCR or PCR. HBoV was detected in 58 (1.68%) out of 3460 samples, mostly from pediatric patients (52/58) and inpatient children (47/58). Six adult patients were detected as HBoV positive and 5 were emergency cases. Of these HBoV positive cases, 19 (32.76%) had co-pathogens including influenza virus (n = 5), RSV (n = 5), parainfluenza (n = 4), adenovirus (n = 1), coronavirus (n = 7). The complete genome sequences of 2 HBoVs strains (Genbank no. JN794565 and JN794566) were analyzed. Phylogenetic analysis showed that the 2 HBoV strains were HBoV1, and were most genetically close to ST2 (GenBank accession number DQ0000496). Recombination analysis confirmed that HBoV strain GZ9081 was an intra-genotype recombinant strain among HBoV1 variants.published_or_final_versio

Short-Term Wind Power Prediction Based on Data Decomposition and Combined Deep Neural Network

    Get PDF
A hybrid short-term wind power prediction model based on data decomposition and combined deep neural network is proposed with the inclusion of the characteristics of fluctuation and randomness of nonlinear signals, such as wind speed and wind power. Firstly, the variational mode decomposition (VMD) is used to decompose the wind speed and wind power sequences in the input data to reduce the noise in the original signal. Secondly, the decomposed wind speed and wind power sub-sequences are reconstructed into new data sets with other related features as the input of the combined deep neural network, and the input data are further studied for the implied features by convolutional neural network (CNN), which should be passed into the long and short-term memory neural network (LSTM) as input for prediction. At the same time, the improved particle swarm optimization algorithm (IPSO) is adopted to optimize the parameters of each prediction model. By superimposing each predicted sub-sequence, the predicting wind power could be obtained. Simulations based on a short-term power prediction in different months with huge weather differences is carried out for a wind farm in Guangdong, China. The simulated results validate that the proposed model has a high prediction accuracy and generalization ability.Guangdong-Guangxi Joint Foundation of China: Research on Distributed Optimal Control of Renewable Multi-microgrids based on the Integration of Multi-Agent Dynamic Game and Prediction Mechanism [Project Number 2021A1515410009]
