    The intensity of the fluorescent radiation from the red wing of the Na D-lines perturbed by rare-gas atoms has been measured as a function of temperature and rare-gas density. These observations were then combined with a quasistatic analysis to determine the potential well depths and the emission peak wavelengths for {\rm Na(3P)He}\sb2, {\rm Na(3P)Ar}\sb2, {\rm Na(3P)Kr}\sb2, and {\rm Na(3P)Ar}\sb3 molecules. The following results were obtained: for {\rm Na\sp\* He}\sb2, {\rm D = 820(110)\ cm}\sp{-1}, λ=8400\lambda = 8400 A; for {\rm Na\sp\* Ar}\sb2, {\rm D = 1100(150)\ cm}\sp{-1}, λ=7200\lambda = 7200 A; for {\rm Na\sp\* Kr}\sb2, {\rm D = 1355(180)\ cm}\sp{-1}, λ=7400\lambda = 7400 A; and for {\rm Na\sp\* Ar}\sb3, {\rm D = 1595(300)\ cm}\sp{-1}, λ=8600\lambda = 8600 A. These results are consistent with a simple model of the alkali-rare-gas molecules in which the depth of the potential energy well of a given molecule can be accurately represented as the sum of well depths of the individual alkali-rare-gas pairs

However, the uses of conventional technologies have resulted in a high demand for energy, with limited use of hydrogen. To address these problems, an innovative strategy is proposed and demonstrated in this study that enhances the conventional design, i.e., to use ammonia-based CO2 capture with double tower absorption and solvent split, along with wet hydrogen for methanol production at industrial scale. The process is further improved through a multi-criteria assessment that considered the CO2 capture rate, NH3 loss rate, CO2 conversion rate, and energy saving factors, in which the latter is based on two components, namely the reboiler duty and the condenser duty. Moreover, an exergy analysis method is used to optimize the improved process, and a highly efficient integrated process is finally established. It has been found that the use of a double-tower absorption process ensures high rates of CO2 capture and low rates of NH3 loss. Additionally, adjusting the molar ratio of H2 to CO2 leads to an impressive 8% increase in the CO2 conversion rate, reaching 25%. In terms of energy savings, the average reboiler duty was reduced from 13.39 to 11.85 MJ/kgCO2, i.e., by 11.50%; while the condenser duty was reduced by 11.36%; both contributed to the overall energy savings. In the I-ACCMP process, the total exergy loss is 437.24 kW, of which the exergy loss of the heat exchangers accounts for 16%, and the desorption tower (DES) accounts for 48%. After optimization, the exergy loss of the heat exchangers decreases from 70.02 kW to 40.45 kW, the exergy loss of the DES decreases from 209.29 kW to 180.91 kW, and the reboiler duty is reduced from 10.60 MJ/kgCO2 to 7.71 MJ/kgCO2. The total exergy loss decreases from 437.24 kW to 372.68 kW, which is a reduction by 14.8%.</p

    Marked disability and high use of nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs associated with knee osteoarthritis in rural China: a cross-sectional population-based survey

    Introduction: The burden of disability, analgesia, and health services use associated with knee pain and osteoarthritis (OA) in developing countries is relatively unknown, despite a high proportion of these populations required to be engaged in heavy occupational physical activity throughout their life span. The aim of this survey was to estimate the burden of disability, analgesia, and health services use associated with knee pain in rural China. Methods: This was a population-based cross-sectional survey among residents, aged 50 years and older, of Wuchuan County, Inner Mongolia. Participants completed an interviewer-based questionnaire, evaluating knee pain and associated disability, analgesia, and health services use, and obtained bilateral standardized weight-bearing knee radiographs. Results: Of the 1,027 participants, 513 (50%) reported knee pain on most days of at least 1 month in the past year, with 109 (21%) also demonstrating radiographic OA (Kellgren-Lawrence grade &gt;= 2) in the symptomatic knee. Adjusting for age, gender, body mass index (BMI), education, and back pain, the presence of knee pain was associated with significantly greater difficulty in walking, climbing 10 steps, stooping, completing cleaning chores, and preparing meals. Among the 513 subjects with knee pain, the additional presence of radiographic evidence of OA was significantly associated with more occasions of &quot;unbearable&quot; pain (59% versus 36%) and restricted activity (64% versus 39%), as well as increased use of nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) (88% versus 78%) and the reported number of doctor visits (59% versus 33%) in the past year. The use of paracetamol for knee pain was rare (6% versus 2%). Conclusions: Knee pain is highly prevalent in rural northern China. The associated significant disability and marked preferential use of NSAIDs as analgesia should be of concern in these communities reliant on heavy occupational physical activity for their livelihood. The findings will be useful to guide the distribution of future health care resources and preventive strategies.     Isolation of H5N6, H7N9 and H9N2 avian influenza A viruses from air sampled at live poultry markets in China, 2014 and 2015

    Zoonotic infections by avian influenza viruses occur at the human-poultry interface, but the modes of transmission have not been fully investigated. We assessed the potential for airborne and fomite transmission at live poultry markets in Guangzhou city and in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), China, during 2014 and 2015. Viral genome and infectious avian influenza A viruses of H5N6, H7N9, and H9N2 subtypes were detected predominantly from particles larger or equal to 1 μm in diameter in the air sampled with cyclone-based bioaerosol samplers at the live poultry markets in Guangzhou. Influenza A(H9N2) viruses were ubiquitously isolated every month during the study period from air and environmental swabs, and different lineages of H9N2 virus were isolated from markets where chickens and minor land-based poultry were sold. The use of de-feathering devices increased the quantity of virus-laden airborne particles while market closure reduced the amount of such particles. The results highlight the possibility of airborne transmission of avian influenza viruses among poultry or from poultry to humans within such settings. This may explain epidemiological observations in which some patients with H7N9 infection reported being in markets but no direct contact with live poultry or poultry stalls.published_or_final_versio

    Crude incidence in two-phase designs in the presence of competing risks.

    BackgroundIn many studies, some information might not be available for the whole cohort, some covariates, or even the outcome, might be ascertained in selected subsamples. These studies are part of a broad category termed two-phase studies. Common examples include the nested case-control and the case-cohort designs. For two-phase studies, appropriate weighted survival estimates have been derived; however, no estimator of cumulative incidence accounting for competing events has been proposed. This is relevant in the presence of multiple types of events, where estimation of event type specific quantities are needed for evaluating outcome.MethodsWe develop a non parametric estimator of the cumulative incidence function of events accounting for possible competing events. It handles a general sampling design by weights derived from the sampling probabilities. The variance is derived from the influence function of the subdistribution hazard.ResultsThe proposed method shows good performance in simulations. It is applied to estimate the crude incidence of relapse in childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia in groups defined by a genotype not available for everyone in a cohort of nearly 2000 patients, where death due to toxicity acted as a competing event. In a second example the aim was to estimate engagement in care of a cohort of HIV patients in resource limited setting, where for some patients the outcome itself was missing due to lost to follow-up. A sampling based approach was used to identify outcome in a subsample of lost patients and to obtain a valid estimate of connection to care.ConclusionsA valid estimator for cumulative incidence of events accounting for competing risks under a general sampling design from an infinite target population is derived

    Improved Reliability of Small Molecule Organic Solar Cells by Double Anode Buffer Layers

    An optimized hybrid planar heterojunction (PHJ) of small molecule organic solar cells (SM-OSCs) based on copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) as donor and fullerene (C60) as acceptor was fabricated, which obviously enhanced the performance of device by sequentially using both MoO3 and pentacene as double anode buffer layers (ABL), also known as hole extraction layer (HEL). A series of the vacuum-deposited ABL, acting as an electron and exciton blocking layer, were examined for their characteristics in SM-OSCs. The performance and reliability were compared between conventional ITO/ABL/CuPc/C60/BCP/Ag cells and the new ITO/double ABL/CuPc/C60/BCP/Ag cells. The effect on the electrical properties of these materials was also investigated to obtain the optimal thickness of ABL. The comparison shows that the modified cell has an enhanced reliability compared to traditional cells. The improvement of lifetime was attributed to the idea of double layers to prevent humidity and oxygen from diffusing into the active layer. We demonstrated that the interfacial extraction layers are necessary to avoid degradation of device. That is to say, in normal temperature and pressure, a new avenue for the device within double buffer layers has exhibited the highest values of open circuit voltage (Voc), fill factor (FF), and lifetime in this work compared to monolayer of ABL

    Prognostic value of inflammatory nutritional scores in locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma patients undergoing neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy: a multicenter study in China

    ObjectiveThis study investigates the prognostic significance of inflammatory nutritional scores in patients with locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (LA-ESCC) undergoing neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy.MethodsA total of 190 LA-ESCC patients were recruited from three medical centers across China. Pre-treatment laboratory tests were utilized to calculate inflammatory nutritional scores. LASSO regression and multivariate logistic regression analyses were conducted to pinpoint predictors of pathological response. Kaplan-Meier and Cox regression analyses were employed to assess disease-free survival (DFS) prognostic factors.ResultsThe cohort comprised 154 males (81.05%) and 36 females (18.95%), with a median age of 61.4 years. Pathological complete response (pCR) was achieved in 17.38% of patients, while 44.78% attained major pathological response (MPR). LASSO and multivariate logistic regression analyses identified that hemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte, and platelet (HALP) (P=0.02) as an independent predictors of MPR in LA-ESCC patients receiving neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy. Kaplan-Meier and log-rank tests indicated that patients with low HALP, MPR, ypT1-2, ypN0 and, ypTNM I stages had prolonged DFS (P &lt; 0.05). Furthermore, univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses underscored HALP (P = 0.019) and ypT (P = 0.029) as independent predictive factors for DFS in ESCC.ConclusionOur study suggests that LA-ESCC patients with lower pre-treatment HALP scores exhibit improved pathological response and reduced recurrence rate. As a comprehensive index of inflammatory nutritional status, pre-treatment HALP may be a reliable prognostic marker in ESCC patients undergoing neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy
