NLO prescription for unintegrated parton distributions
We show how parton distributions unintegrated over the parton transverse
momentum, k_t, may be generated, at NLO accuracy, from the known integrated
(DGLAP-evolved) parton densities determined from global data analyses. A few
numerical examples are given, which demonstrate that sufficient accuracy is
obtained by keeping only the LO splitting functions together with the NLO
integrated parton densities. However, it is important to keep the precise
kinematics of the process, by taking the scale to be the virtuality rather than
the transverse momentum, in order to be consistent with the calculation of the
NLO splitting functions.Comment: 20 pages, 8 figures. v2: version to appear in Eur. Phys. J.
Restoration of factorization for low hadron hadroproduction
We discuss the applicability of the factorization theorem to low-
hadron production in hadron-hadron collision in a simple toy model, which
involves only scalar particles and gluons. It has been shown that the
factorization for high- hadron hadroproduction is broken by soft gluons in
the Glauber region, which are exchanged among a transverse-momentum-dependent
(TMD) parton density and other subprocesses of the collision. We explain that
the contour of a loop momentum can be deformed away from the Glauber region at
low , so the above residual infrared divergence is factorized by means of
the standard eikonal approximation. The factorization is then restored in
the sense that a TMD parton density maintains its universality. Because the
resultant Glauber factor is independent of hadron flavors, experimental
constraints on its behavior are possible. The factorization can also be
restored for the transverse single-spin asymmetry in hadron-hadron collision at
low in a similar way, with the residual infrared divergence being
factorized into the same Glauber factor.Comment: 12 pages, 2 figures, version to appear in EPJ
Criticality in confined ionic fluids
A theory of a confined two dimensional electrolyte is presented. The positive
and negative ions, interacting by a potential, are constrained to move on
an interface separating two solvents with dielectric constants and
. It is shown that the Debye-H\"uckel type of theory predicts that
the this 2d Coulomb fluid should undergo a phase separation into a coexisting
liquid (high density) and gas (low density) phases. We argue, however, that the
formation of polymer-like chains of alternating positive and negative ions can
prevent this phase transition from taking place.Comment: RevTex, no figures, in press Phys. Rev.
Two patients with acute thrombocytopenia following gold administration and five-year follow-up
Thrombocytopenia is a well-known side effect following intramuscular gold
therapy in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Thrombocytopenia may occur
at any time and it can be irreversible and sometimes fatal despite
cytotoxic or immunosuppressive therapy. We describe two patients who
presented with haemorrhagic diathesis on the day after the administration
of aurothioglucose. The thrombocytopenia in these patients was caused by
aurothioglucose-induced antibody-mediated platelet destruction. Both
patients made an uneventful recovery and the platelet count returned to
normal within severa
Global Production Increased by Spatial Heterogeneity in a Population Dynamics Model
Spatial and temporal heterogeneity are often described as important factors having a strong impact on biodiversity. The effect of heterogeneity is in most cases analyzed by the response of biotic interactions such as competition of predation. It may also modify intrinsic population properties such as growth rate. Most of the studies are theoretic since it is often difficult to manipulate spatial heterogeneity in practice. Despite the large number of studies dealing with this topics, it is still difficult to understand how the heterogeneity affects populations dynamics. On the basis of a very simple model, this paper aims to explicitly provide a simple mechanism which can explain why spatial heterogeneity may be a favorable factor for production. We consider a two patch model and a logistic growth is assumed on each patch. A general condition on the migration rates and the local subpopulation growth rates is provided under which the total carrying capacity is higher than the sum of the local carrying capacities, which is not intuitive. As we illustrate, this result is robust under stochastic perturbations

Two parton shower background for associate W Higgs production
The estimates of the background for the associate W Higgs production, which
stems from the two parton shower production. It is about 1 - 2.5 times larger
than the signal. However, this background does not depend on the rapidity
difference between the W and the pair, while the signal peaks when
the rapidity difference is zero. The detailed calculations for the enhanced
diagrams' contribution to this process, are presented, and it is shown that the
overlapping singularities, being important theoretically, lead to a negligible
contribution for the LHC range of energiesComment: 35 pages and 10 figures in eps file
factorization of exclusive processes
We prove factorization theorem in perturbative QCD (PQCD) for exclusive
processes by considering and . The relevant form factors are expressed as the convolution of hard
amplitudes with two-parton meson wave functions in the impact parameter
space, being conjugate to the parton transverse momenta . The point is
that on-shell valence partons carry longitudinal momenta initially, and acquire
through collinear gluon exchanges. The -dependent two-parton wave
functions with an appropriate path for the Wilson links are gauge-invariant.
The hard amplitudes, defined as the difference between the parton-level
diagrams of on-shell external particles and their collinear approximation, are
also gauge-invariant. We compare the predictions for two-body nonleptonic
meson decays derived from factorization (the PQCD approach) and from
collinear factorization (the QCD factorization approach).Comment: 11 pages, REVTEX, 5 figure
A New Recursion Relation for the 6j-Symbol
The 6j-symbol is a fundamental object from the re-coupling theory of SU(2)
representations. In the limit of large angular momenta, its asymptotics is
known to be described by the geometry of a tetrahedron with quantized lengths.
This article presents a new recursion formula for the square of the 6j-symbol.
In the asymptotic regime, the new recursion is shown to characterize the
closure of the relevant tetrahedron. Since the 6j-symbol is the basic building
block of the Ponzano-Regge model for pure three-dimensional quantum gravity, we
also discuss how to generalize the method to derive more general recursion
relations on the full amplitudes.Comment: 10 pages, v2: title and introduction changed, paper re-structured;
