The Persistence Behaviour of Registered Apprentices: Who Continues, Quits, or Completes Programs?
We utilize a multinomial probit model and the 2007 National Apprenticeship Survey (NAS) to investigate the persistence behaviour of individuals enrolled in apprenticeship programs. These behaviours include continuing, discontinuing (or quitting) and completing programs. The NAS contains detailed demographic data as well as other data regarding respondentsâ backgrounds and apprenticeship characteristics. Our results show that program completion is positively related to being married, having fewer children, being non-Aboriginal and not a visible minority, not being disabled and having a higher level of education before the beginning of the program. Completion is negatively related to time in the program (beyond the normal program length) and the number of employers. Type of technical training and having a journeyperson always present enhance the probability of completion. The regional unemployment rate has little effect on completion. There are also large provincial and trade group differences that are generally consistent with the sparse literature on this topic. Males and females have similar completion probabilities when we control for other influences.Apprenticeship Training, Completion Outcomes, Canada
Global stabilization of multiple integrators by a bounded feedback with constraints on its successive derivatives
In this paper, we address the global stabilization of chains of integrators
by means of a bounded static feedback law whose p first time derivatives are
bounded. Our construction is based on the technique of nested saturations
introduced by Teel. We show that the control amplitude and the maximum value of
its p first derivatives can be imposed below any prescribed values. Our results
are illustrated by the stabilization of the third order integrator on the
feedback and its first two derivatives
Global stabilization of linear systems with bounds on the feedback and its successive derivatives
We address the global stabilization of linear time-invariant (LTI) systems
when the magnitude of the control input and its successive time derivatives, up
to an order , are bounded by prescribed values. We propose a
static state feedback that solves this problem for any admissible LTI systems,
namely for stabilizable systems whose internal dynamics has no eigenvalue with
positive real part. This generalizes previous work done for single-input chains
of integrators and rotating dynamics
How to Finance the Security of the International Trade ? A Global Public Good Approach
The aim of this article is to identify the modalities of financing international trade security. Our analysis is more specifically oriented by the issue of financing the developing countries which must make a considerable effort to attain the required level, whereas the developed countries have already largely invested in trade security since the events of 11th September 2001. We first characterise security in the context of a global public good, before studying the financing conditions and the discriminating criteria of the supply of the global public good security. We then presents a critical analysis of the various possible sources and instruments for financing the global public good security and propose different financing scenarios, each one based on a specific allocation of responsibilities among the players in security. We conclude by considering the role of the international institutions as project managers of the financing and implementation of the security of international trade.international, financing, global public goods, international trade, security
